Another thing that sticks out is the red numbers and logo looking so pink. Hopefully it's a wip. The flag in the background is a nice deep red too, so you can't really blame the lighting.

I honestly don't see why they still couldn't scan their faces and just go in and touch them up (slim them down, add hair where need be, eliminate wrinkles, etc.). Is that possible?

I can assure you that we'd be in the same boat or worse off because not all of those guys would probably want to be bothered with showing up to do the scanning. Barkley barely signed on to do nothing but have his likeness in the game and collect a paycheck with zero promotional work involved. You really think he's flying out to the Bay Area to sit in a chair for however long the scanning process is?

since I'm not a dev, I guess I can make the assumption they can't use previous scans from previous games or can they? But if they can, where are they? Did someone lose them in the data base? Another question, do guys like Jordan have to come into get a scan, that would have been impossible for his 86 face? I guess I don't understand the face scanning issue for older faces. Is there a different procedure? How would you do a scan for a deceased player like Dennis Johnson or Wilt?

Not bad to me, but can't 2k just farm out legend captures to the pc community and incorporate those faces into the game?

All day.

Looks like they scanned John Stockton with some of that sick 2k15 face scan tech lol.

Just based on various tidbits we've gotten from game developers over the years, I would assume that there is some sort of work involved more than just taking the previous face data and loading it on the new game. They didn't ever scan faces of the legends at all, those assets were created for each specific year I believe. Not a developer either so I'm just guessing like you lol. But I think particularly the faces they used on the old gen consoles would certainly have to be completely redone since they were designed for completely different tech.

Makes sense to me (also not a dev haha)...... but if they made MJ in 2K11 from scratch so well, how come they can't do it again on current gen?

To me its a question of effort right? And sure, they maybe wanna worry about other things, I get that..... but here we now have a 92 Dream Team with a great Pip and Clyde..... but the same ugly MJ? Haha..... just doesn't make sense to me.

I don't want to come across as whining - I do appreciate that these guys are in the game...... but if you're gonna promote the 92 Dream Team, surely it could be on the list of priorities to update MJ at the same time?

Unless 2K think this MJ is good.....

Totally playing devil's advocate, but maybe Jordan would look a small touch better in that screenshot if he weren't caught in the middle of one of those freakish smile mechanics situations. Then again, looking at his other features, not just the mouth, I'm not convinced he's been cleaned up.

My only other thought was that maybe he'd be updated prior to launch. I understand, based off of recent 2K's, that classic players being updated accurately may not crack the list of things most likely to happen. But there was a time (2K11) when 2K seemed to be taking feedback and tweaking graphical mix-ups with classic players really late in the development cycle as a means of achieving perfection.

Anyone remember the tongue issue? When MJ's was purple at first before 2K touched things up prior to release?

Edit: Actually, reading through the old thread, 2K had fixed that tongue before even releasing that screenshot, so not exactly an example of feedback-and-fix. Either way, they were still going the extra mile with the classics at that point and it showed.

The dedication to MJ & the legends and 2k11 put 2k on the map. Shame that it's been a few iterations on such powerful consoles and the legends are just not up to par and have taken a back seat whereas last gen almost every classic player felt as they really played.

# 132 daveberg @ 08/02/16 04:01 AM
I think the issue is with the explosion of 'story' type modes like the Spike Lee kind of stuff - 2k seems to invest their time and money more into elements like that as it perhaps covers a broader target audience.

The issue with the legends, is that it's almost a 'niche' market.

I know people have been against this, as it's a money pit, but I'd happily shell out coin to 2k for them to update and produce more classic team options - hell, even a stand alone game itself, dedicated to classic NBA gaming. I'd buy that in a heart beat.

.................................................. ..

Going back to MJ - I think over all, where we made a push with this thread last year, his visuals were actually improved some. If you do a comparison between 15 and 16, I think there's a difference.

This picture below that was released before 2k15 dropped made me die inside:

Ok, honestly, please tell me if I'm going mad, but does the 2k13 Dream Team look BETTER than 2k17...??

Looks like more work and detailing on the 2k13 models, or am I just reaching now?

Maybe, but there is money to be made there.

The problem is they don't get any attention and seem kind of like a throw in (although da czar and OG implemented some old school offenses and defenses, they've been more than halfway ignored everywhere else.)

The thing about legends as Da Czar used to try to tell some of the kids who said 'who cares about legends'

His answer was, today's stars are tomorrows legends... and he was right..

You have Iverson gone now, McGrady gone, kobe is gone, Pierce about to be gone, Duncan gone, Vince will be gone soon as well as KG, Ray Allen is gone, Wade won't be in the league more than another 3 years, and the list is growing, and now those same kids are faced with never seeing those guys again.

NOW it probably makes sense to them.

We've said this for many years only to fall on deaf ears. Too bad but even the ability to create that stuff, as the modders have done on PC over the years would help.

I get what you're saying. My personal view is that I can stretch it and get on board with the 2K17 version IF;

a); They fix MJ and Bird
b): The all have a fair few signature animations each to give each player a unique type look/feel

It may sounds crazy, but I'd make peace with the others if the above 2 points happened.

But yes, I do see what you're getting at. And it possibly ties in with your point about how they sink time and money into the "mainstream" stuff..... maybe 2K13 allowed a bit more time to work on the legends......

I'm sure Jay Z would've put in hundreds of hours in the lab that year......

If you can get past all the ignorance and screaming and madness (which is why i dont watch any of these guys, he does point out some obvious issues)

I could live with them fixing MJ & Bird, that would go a long way to making things better.

Man.....oh man. Looking at him switching screens comparing the real life counterparts to the game art.......I just dunno what to say.

Shocking. And NOT in a good way.

# 139 The 24th Letter @ 08/02/16 06:18 AM
Some of these need work regardless, but 2k hasnt quite nailed facial expressions yet, particularly smiling/smirking...so catch the right player in the middle of the wrong expression...they look much worse...

Reminds me of this thread:

http://www.operationsports.com/forum....php?t=857284/

For instance, MJ wasnt perfect in '16 by any stretch, but he wasnt as bad as the pic in the OP

same with Drexler, hes actually one of the better done legends...

Like I said though, in general- the legends in the game could still use a bit more attention....just providing some context.

Spoiler

Has he stuck his tongue out in the next gen games? I know he did in 11 12 and 13 but if he did for next gen I guess I never noticed it.
