Madden NFL 17 News Post

Another Madden NFL 17 blog has just arrived going over defensive gaps, run fits and so much more. This one is filled with great information.

Let's go over a bit:

Quote:
"When implementing the run fits system, we installed it the same way the defensive coordinators install their defenses in the NFL – Alignment, Assignment and Technique – and what this amounts to is every defender on the field having a specific job to do on each play the user calls."

This is a much needed change in the series. For too long we've called defensive plays like they're offensive plays -- which was completely inaccurate. To be moving in a more sim direction is always welcome, especially in an area most every football game hasn't been close to right on since the dawn of gaming.

Quote:
"The AI will automatically flip your defense when the offense flips so that your defense aligns to the proper strength in relation to the offensive formation they are seeing after the huddle break. When your defense has been flipped, you will see visual feedback in the Score HUD to tell you that your defense has been flipped, as well as what part of the defense was flipped (Entire defense, Coverage, Front)."

This is a nice touch and completely awesome (and much welcome).

Quote:
"The next step in the Run-Fits system is Defensive Gap assignments. All defenders, both in the NFL and Madden 17 have a specific responsibility on each play – this includes gap integrity for ‘run-fit’ defenders and coverage responsibility plus run-support for coverage defenders – making the play-calling experience more engaging and strategy-based than in previous iterations. "

This is a great layer that, when combined with the previous assignment/flip options makes for a compelling layer of defensive strategy that you must go into. Compare this to previously calling a play and hot routing defensive players and you can instantly see why this is a huge upgrade.

Quote:
"Just because a defender is assigned to a gap pre-snap doesn’t mean he’s locked to that gap for the remainder of the play. Each defender has AI that allows him to update his gap and react to the war in the trenches to fill the open lanes created by the blockers as the play develops. This AI relies heavily on the Play Recognition Rating.

Based on the PRC rating, defenders will be faster or slower in reading the play and finding the right gap to fill."

I'm not 100% certain how this will fully play out, but it sounds promising and certainly deeper than what we've seen out of Madden when it comes to line play over the past several years. The PRC rating sounds like a nice touch and addition.

Wow. I think I just crapped my pants!!! Lol. This sounds AWESOME!!! And, may be the single greatest addition to any madden title. If this is implemented correctly, THIS will make the game feel like it feels on Sundays. And, this will FINALLY make running the ball MAKE SENSE!!! And, it will finally make playing as a MLB MAKE SENSE, as well!!! This actually sounds like REAL football. And, honestly, to the casuals, arcade style, tourney guys, this will ultimately play better for them as well, I believe. I have always felt that once madden football ACTUALLY PLAYS FOOTBALL, everyone will be happy. I may find it hard to play M16, anymore! Lol, as I can't wait to see some proper gap fit play. Go, MADDEN!! Excellent blog, too. Great explanations of what's coming.

There was nothing in there about the passing game, but next week Rex is going to talk about all the new zones and stuff so we should find out then.

I'd still hold on to that. What came out today was very front-seven oriented. There are still blogs to come that will talk about concepts like the new zone coverage schemes coming this year.

But it would be pretty disappointing if it doesn't make it in this year.

I really like that the visual feedback that tells you when your defense flips can be turned off.

I would think it would also make it extremely important who you draft and sign in free agency. If PRC rating has it's desired affect then if you mess around and have guys with low PRC we would prolly see a lot of blown assignments. Getting the players that fit scheme should be important too now. I pray it works correctly. I think we should be cautiously optimistic with this being the first year of implementation. Major props to Madden team for taking these steps.

It's long overdue for us to get this feature (back.) I'm not going to say it's make or break for me, but it's something that is really necessary to make the game play like football.

This is amazing. As some one that has played D1 college football, this is legit. All of the terms they used we used as well. It will be awesome seeing this in action. I wished they would have given us a video to coincide with the blogs. I really hope I will be able to use real football knowledge to beat cheesers online.

Madden really got this right. I played safety in college and the first thing we did was identify the strength of the offense as indicated by the blog. The auto flip feature is HUGE!!!!!! I would manually do this on ever play. Next I would have to know what kind of run fit player I was. Usually it was a force or cutback in Cover 3 or a pass first fill player in cover 2. I am blown away that got all of this in the game. I salute you madden.

From what I read it still sounds like we can't force our #1 CB to follow their #1 WR. Which is sad.
But atleast we got some much needed improvements.

My notes taken from this blog...

- Love that they explain what ratings will drive what.

-Especially that PRC for the "contain" player is reversed (unless it's a mistype), in that the higher this rating is, the more agressive the player will be making him "over play".

- As has been always, "90" is the top shelf level to get the most out of a players ability/rating (remember that roster editors, as it holds true in M16 now)

- love that choosing the correct play has a major role in the success of players on the defensive side.

Looking good!!!

I'm very interested to see how this plays out. It'll definitely be a WIP project, but the fact that we have Alignment, Assignment, and Technique in this year's installment is awesome! Haven't heard that since the old college football days, so for us former athletes, and football nerds we're ready!

One thing im going to be looking out for is how the Madden team chooses to separate the STUDS from the fringe players when it comes to these specific ratings. I'm hoping we will see a legit difference between a Suh type and a ordinary Joe Blow.

Yes yes yes finally ! Football concepts no more running the same plays over and over and over ! And also seems play rec will be very very important . So veterans players will play a big role now vs young guys and rookies with low , Read and react !

Rex please spread ratings out please please gameplay is so much better . In years pass why get the Texans JJ Watt ? He don't feel elite ? The gap to small from Watt and the avg offence linemen ! I hope we go the FIFA route in player ratings!
