NHL 17 News Post

EA recently treated us to our first look at NHL 17 with the unveiling of a brand-new “Vision” trailer. Throughout the course of the video, numerous new features were hinted at, such as a World Cup Of Hockey mode and seemingly major improvements to Be A GM mode.

We’re going to have to wait a little longer to see what EA has in store for us, but in the meantime, I've drawn up a wishlist of the some of the most commonly requested features ahead of the game's release later this year.

it would be real nice if line changes worked no matter what controller settings are being used.

Pretty good list. I'd love to see a few legacy items finally fixed.

1. For the love of god give me at least one additional PK line to set.

2. Please fix the salary cap and AI roster/lines management in Be a GM.

I do not want to see the cpu playing a forward on their sixth d-pairing or a seventh defenseman playing on the fourth line.

1. FIX ULTIMATE TEAM!! its a joke I have bought a total of 11 packs my best pull was an 83 overall. It's a joke its disrespectful to the fans that buy the packs and It's just stupid I don't even play the ultimate team game mode anymore because of how ridiculous it is. I've played both FIFA 16 and Madden 16 both ultimate team game modes are BETTER BY A WIDE MARGIN the packs are always good however on nhl in order to be a good team you need to spends thousands of dollars its such a joke they need to stop being so STINGY we already bought the dang game.
2. Line Changing- So many times I'm playing in a tight game and I pass the puck up to a winger and he just hops off the ice and then the puck gets iced
3. add gm mode

Bring back the custom attribute modifications from NHL 14's EASHL. If that's not an option than don't even bother creating an NHL 17 because it will suck just like NHL 15 and 16 suck.

Can't stress enough how much custom music impacts the playing experience. My biggest hope for the game by far.

It would be nice if they could make "generic" leagues to take the place of the ones they don't have the licensing rights to.

I don't know that the NCAA ever happens, just because of the way the NCAA handles their player's rights. If they did manage to get the NCAA included, it would likely be the same as it was in NCAA football and basketball games, where players were just represented by vague likenesses, with numbers instead of names.

That said, if they could somehow make a system like Eastside Hockey Manager where teams are all generic and their logos and rosters are easily replaced (this would obviously be a bigger task with a console system, and 3D player models in the game) then it would be possible for people to create their own rosters, jerseys, and logos and import them into the game.

Based on our current and past levels of customization, I don't have a lot of faith we'll see something like that.

1. better face off system and broken sticks from face off battles

2. more break aways plays from turn overs

3. a realistic amount off face offs and game stopages 60 to 75 face offs per game

4. more battles or scuffles for the puck along the boards with mutiple players

5. tired of watching the cpu face one way and make blind passes to team mates to score crazy goals there has to be some kind of ice awareness before certain players are available to pass too.

6. legends used in offline modes

7. historic teams from the past

8. each player have there own celebration styles

9 special signature moves for superstars

10 more speed seperation from average players to elite

11. the ability to create or import custom goalie masks
or purchase anything is better than what the game has now.

12. goalie size differential 5-10 guys vrs 6-5 should look different in goal

13. more older uniforms to purchase or earn

14. the ability to track and break nhl records and your teams records

15. game stats that track your points so if i had 45 goals before that game
and i started playing and scored the anouncers would say that was his 46 goal of the season.

16. real nhl coaches faces

17. more nhl referee crews or faces dont want to see the same ones game after game.

18. a better draft experience

19. the ability to just cut players off my roster
and the ability to start at the draft or after.

20. more pan shots of the arena while playing

21. custom music imports

22. roster share

23. more jumbotron shots like after a score players glance at the jumbotron to watch replays.

24. announcers who identify players who were just added to your team via trade or free agency

25 more stat overlays during game play like current standings how you rank in certain stat areas or maybe how close you are to breaking records.

26. what about hot and cold streaks some kind of system where your players can play above there head or could not hit the side of a barn if cold.

I'm almost tempted to say, take all the really cool features that you had in previous versions and put them back in. Well I guess I did say that didn't I?

Remember when there was goalie fatigue, and you had to rest or practice your team between games, and the Stanley Cup presentation went through every player on the team with an overlay of their playoff stats, and there were out of town scores that flashed on the bottom of the screen (I might be thinking 2K on that one).

Those things ^^^^ and others.

all of you mentioned a few things i totally agree with.
for me, the most important thing is an upgrade of the AI and goalies.

i have been playin as a goalie since i'm 6 years old and the goalies in NHL 16 are hilarious. they are dropping into the butterfly way too early and getting fooled on easy break away moves. (wouldn't wonder if they copied the motions of the noob from the go-pro-vids).

it should be more realistic in general. ppl should be forced to play hockey. i have seen guys online having a passing percentage of 40 and under. that's not what hockey is about. you should get rewarded for playing realistic hockey.
players fighting in front of the net should also be fixed. getting a cross crease pass through the slot is so f***ing hard in real life. therefore ppl would stop using skillzone and can concentrate on 1on1 battles.

I think many guys playing NHL don't care about arena atmosphere or presentation in general. thats why they should concentrate on AI instead of introducing things like world cup of hockey or other modes which get played once and that's it.

so, now you have seen I'm realy upset about the actual gameplay it has cost me many losses in HUT. I hope EA fixes some problems with the new game but I think there are only a few things being done, like every year.

I'd go through my long yearly list of desires for NHL 17... but honestly I can't because I don't remember enough of NHL 16 to even criticize it. I haven't played it since Christmas.

All I remember is this: The BeaGM mode felt so shallow and dull that I didn't even finish my first season (Up until NHL 14, I'd often go 8-9 seasons into a GM mode).

I remember the gameplay feeling more worse than NHL 15. NHL 15 was barely a beta release, but I adored it's gameplay. 16 felt like an alpha-release rewind from NHL 15.

NHL 16 lost by blowout to Madden 16 and Attila: Total War at keeping my gaming interest the past year.

I really liked NHL 16 until I started a season. All my settings, and sliders seemed to change. The game play was totally different, it was like the CPU totally changed the whole entire game and completely ignored my settings and sliders.. I won't buy another EA Hockey game unless they fix this.

Some things I would love to see in NHL 17:

#1. In HUT for collection purposes under each team is the silhouette of the cards you need and once you get the card it fills in. So you know 100% what you need. This can include all the TOTW’s ect.

#2. When playing vs online it takes unneeded time to edit your lineup. If an roster update comes out you should be able to edit the team you use and move the players around on that team. So when it comes time for the matchup you can get into the game faster.

#3. In GM mode I want to be able to sign my players in the regular season.

#4. In EASHL if your team is playing a game and your waiting in the lobby it would be cool to see how much time is left in the game and the score or the ability to just watch the game.

#5. To get players to play other modes do this. I don't play EASHL but I would if I could import my player into HUT. So each player would have a created player in HUT.

# 39 preclose @ 05/15/16 04:43 PM
I play EASHL exclusively with a few friends. Opinions vary on this, but I actually do like the lack of customization of the players. It evens out the playing field and I think makes the games feel more realistic. The tiny forwards of years past with nothing but speed are gone thankfully. That said, there are a couple of things I think would make the experience even better.

#1. Implement some sort of system to remove troublemakers. Maybe 60 seconds or so before booting an idle player. There seem to be a ton of players that like to join, but don't want to skate. And then there's the "offsides" guy. I mean, come on, if you're offsides 100 ft from the action, that's clearly intentional.

#2. Option to play with CPU goalies only.

#3. Line changes. I can't take credit for this idea as I read it from someone else last year when they were talking about sending some fans to help in the development of the game, but I think it's a great idea. Basically, your player would tire at a certain rate and when you go back to your bench he'll get off the ice as a new you hops on the ice, refreshed and ready for the shift. Not sure how well it would work in reality, but if you had players that knew what they were doing I think it would be a great addition.

The first reveal was excellent, and has my hopes up. I'd most like to see sliders that work, custom music, and more player editing features. You touched on Be a Pro, one thing I'd love to see is my player's home. maybe start in a small apartment, then upgrade as you get more famous and have more money. You can earn trophies, and swag to decorate the place. I think they had something like this in the old 2K football games.
