Pretty happy with what I saw and given the circumstances (taking it easy on their host, Rampage, and still learning the ropes themselves).

Ground game looks amazing. Would look even better when we learn the game and don't need the Grapple Assist HUD anymore. The transitions from ground to standing clinch back to ground are so smooth. Scrambles are now possible!

I like the stopping power that they added. No more walking through flying knees and head kicks like a Terminator.
Hard to see how improved the stamina system was considering they had graphics obscuring the stamina bar and they were playing Rampage's style to entertain the viewers (i.e. swing for the fences non-stop). This also gave us a lot of opportunities to see the new KO physics which looked exceptional.

It does appear that most people will make heavy use of head movement like Anderson Silva. One thing I wondered when watching the video was why no one was throwing that leg kick when their opponent was going matrix. Seemed like an obvious punishment.

Basing what? I enjoyed the first one, this looks comparable with slight improvements. I'd give it a whirl.

Seemed to me a few too many people were Sweet Pea with the head movement and the punches chained a little too fast which encouraged the frantic style. But its something i expected, so im not really holding it against the game.

still want to get my hands on it.

The first UFC game from EA also has no replay mode. The instant replay option only shows up in the menu at the end of a fight in the multiplayer (online) game. The singleplayer has no option for replays in the menu

I think UFC 2 will also have no option for replays in the singleplayer game. Very sad.

The ground game got some SERIOUS LOVE. Now it will actually be worthwhile to play with submission artists. And with leg kick TKOs it will be awesome to play as Aldo, Ben Henderson and Cowboy Cerronne now.

Dont forget Edson Barbosa. His leg kicks will be killer in the game.

I saw Thiago alves throw a super man punch off the cage in one if the last fights of the stream. Does that mean all fighters still can do cage strikes? I maybe wrong but I don't recall Thiago ever doing that in real life. Also is there fighter uniqueness or everyone have the same stance/moves etc? Still ground game looks amazing. Ko physics look sick

Nope, all fighters cant do cage strikes but its not as strict as the only people who can do cage strikes are ones who did them in real life.

Dynamic strikers like Alves will have the ability to do cage strikes but a fighter like Demian Maia likely wont have that ability.

There are different stances and you can see some of them in the Rampage video. Brandon Thatch is an example of a fighter with a unique stance/idle in that video.

The game looks much more smooth. Punches and kicks flow nicely. Ground game got some serious love, I like the look of it. Really can't wait to play the beta on the 28th!

They are still there but there is a greater variety and certain fighters have more than one.

@aholbert32,

Can you say if we can choose from a select set of animations in career mode? For example, different walkout animations, different taunt animations, or different stances based off fights style templates?

Cant go into detail yet but there is something like that in the CAF system.

My hope is that with each fighter having specific skill sets it will lead gamers to play with different guys online. I hate playing against the same fighters all the time. Does OS have a tight knit UFC community?

I doubt it. One thing that I realized from talking to some hardcore online gamers and spending more time on the UFC forums is that the only goal is winning. People talk about wanting to use more fighters but when it comes down to it people will likely use the same top fighters because it puts the best position to win.

I'm hoping that because the game is much improved, I expect more people will buy UFC 2 and that will result in more people on OS playing online. I think a sim minded community and an improved game will be great.

@aholbert32,

Do you know when they might announce more info on the career mode?

No idea but we have 7 weeks before release so we have a bit of time. I know that they have a deep dive coming regarding the new grappling system. I'd guess that they will wait until after the beta to drop the rest of the news.

That's a shame. I remember back to the UFC 09 days and Pappy and I (Phobia, too) would make a point to always use different fighters in all of the weight classes. Drew McFredries wound up being a fun guy to use ... until he got taken down, lol.

This post is one of the reasons I stopped online gaming several years ago.

Lol, no doubt. I play with pretty much everyone online in EA UFC as well. 250 fighters at my fingertips in the new game is a crazy number for me to wrap my head around. That alone should provide for a lot of differing matchups online. I plan on turning the Derrick Lewis's of the world into Fedor. Clay Collard will be feared online haha.

What could fix this would be having you pick your fighter before you get matched up with an opponent, and having it search for plus/minus 2 OVR for the opponents fighter. I don't know why no sports games have adopted this system.
