NBA 2K16 News Post

2K has just released a new NBA 2K16 video, this one features NBA 2K16's Play Now Online mode, which gives gamers an online ranking system for Head to Head and Team Up games, and 10 new created leagues in which you can reach goals and new league seeds. Wins and losses count toward reaching goals and new league seeds, though rising through the ranks won't be easy.
  • 10 different leagues (Freshman through Greatest of All-Time)
  • Wins and losses now count towards reaching goals to advance in leagues
  • Competition is based on your skill level with scouting reports on your opponent
  • Teams are broken out into 3 tiers, beat teams from higher tiers and receive extra league wins
  • As you advance in Play Now Online, you can unlock classic teams to play with
UPDATE: Also mentioned on Twitter by Scott O'Gallagher, Gameplay Producer for NBA 2K16, the difficulty will be set at Superstar Simulation and match making within your league and teams can change tiers based on real world team rankings.

That's some great news and very well enhanced mode!

Hopefully next year 2k let us choose our opponent play style in terms of sliders and level just as Fifa does for years when going into the game you choose a game of assisted / semi-assisted / manual so it matches you up someone exact to your preference.

So basically all 2k needs to do with it is to make sure preferences added as follows

Level: Rookie / Pro / All-Star / Superstar / HOF
Sliders: Casual / Default / Simulation

Well, after having their "Top" people on it last year, I think I would keep quiet on that as well. Let the progress on the severs speak for themselves. What can they really do at this point that is going to assuage your concerns other than test them for yourself?

It's because of his affiliation with Live

Since the game is multi platform, 2K has never had the opportunity to test the game on Xbox live or PSN to check for stability. I think releasing it early (pre-orders) is their way of testing out the servers.... in any event we will all see together.

Can really notice the quick elevation by Ben to get that block.

OT, loved this progression & tier system from FIFA as well.

Yep. It's most likely exactly the same this year. Completely unplayable in all online modes.

Has any sports game solved this?

I've gotten to the point that I just assume it's going to be broken until it's proven not to be. Even if it all works on Friday, I still won't believe it until Wednesday (after the official launch). And even if it all works then the servers still have to survive Black Friday, then Christmas ...

It's just safer to assume it's broken, IMHO.

OT, this looks really fun (like the progression system). I will likely forget about it as I go through all the rest of the modes.

It's going to take me more than a year to get through everything in this game, so I hope they don't expect me to get 2k17 ... it'll have to blow this one out of the water for me to invest in it.

is this supposed to be the big surprise announcement?

I'm loving all of this. I love that they are actually paying attention to HOW you play (which teams you use, etc.) rather than just how many cheese wins you can rack up. This is a good way to make sure online is more about quality play than cheesing with superstar teams every game.

I also love that we can FINALLY use classic teams online. I don't know why you couldn't in previous games.

Great feature. Too bad my time will be almost completely taken up by MyCareer/Pro-Am/4v4 Park/MyTeam.

People who don't pre-order and go in to buy NBA 2K16 on Friday are gonna be like.

I like the fact that 2K is trying to fix the issue of always playing people who pick the same teams over and over when you play someone online. That alone is one of the reason's I've stayed away from online play for the past few years. Pretty cool to be able to unlock classic teams to play online with.

It's not like it's only laggy when the servers are being hammered. Literally 24/7 365 days a year the online play has a ton of input delay because of the crappy netcode. It never ever goes away and it makes the game completely unplayable.

I switched to direct Ethernet connection for 15 and I can honestly say it helped a lot. There was still a tiny delay, you cant play much on ball D, but it was bearable and a big improvement from WiFi. WiFi is unplayable and if you are in college still, chances are your connection will suck either way.

I feel your pain tho I dealt with that all through college days, luckily you have more buds around to not need online.

It's not just on you. I have 100 up/100 down, well beyond what anyone ever needs for playing any online game and the input lag is still there in any online mode. It's poorly built on 2ks end. I don't know how anyone can stomach it.
