Draft Champions is the best mode in Madden 16.

Even with the long-awaited release of the Connected Franchise patch, there's a good chance that Madden's new mode is still going to get the most use for the time being. And why not? The more Madden releases flashback players like Clinton Portis and Chris Johnson, the more enticing it will be to me.

However, if you've been playing Draft Champions enough, there's a good chance you have come across people who are trying to game the system. Even in a mode that almost ensures a fair playing field for every match, Herman Moore will still play the slot and abuse your 72-rated cornerback on a deep ball because your opponent is not in the good sportsmanship business.

The positions that make the most impact IMO:

QB- Being able to get the ball off under pressure is crucial. It's easier to throw to a silver WR than a Silver QB throwing to a elite WR.

OL: Having players you can run behind makes those short yardages easier. Also allowing time for the routes to develop.

MLB: I like to user my MLB, so I'm going for the fastest MLB that pops up (Kendricks, Bowman, Luke, etc)

CB: I like to go with players like Rhodes, Verner, Sherman, Mccourty basically well rounded DBs with height. I'd rather not worry about getting beat by streaks every play.

DL: Ever have to go against Blount, Lynch, Morris, Lacy, etc in H2H or CPU. Yeah. Not fun when lineman don't get off blocks.

I take defense first and foremost. For offense my priority is QB, O Line, HB, WR, TE

Odd, I usually get 2 or 3 elite qbs per draft.

Having exclusively played APF2K8 for a few years, I love the concept of Draft Champions. There are countless ways to approach this whether it be building around scheme or personnel and the best part is there is never one, end-all, be-all dominate team.

I generally focus on positions that can't be masked. You can mask average LBs with great DL. You can offset a weak short-yardage passing game with a good run game & deep threat WRs. You can marginalize sub-par RB talent with screens, dump-offs, etc. It really is a chess match. Sometimes, I just take the cards that I'm dealt and run with it. For example, if I manage to get a terrible QB (Sanchez), I can offset him by making him a distributor in my scheme - as opposed to my point man - and protect him with good OL, strong run game and short-to-medium passes.

I have found that if you have a terrible OL/DL it will destroy any foundation you're trying to build.

DBs all day, then WRs. QB doesn't matter. I've won as much with Matt Cassel as I have with Tom Brady. OL is important and if you can get a good RB and work him into the passing game it's usually a huge boost. TEs can help a lot too.

Hmm I never draft a qb unless it's an elite guy. I see no point in drafting rivers and co

Really? Quite the general statement. I'd have to say the lack of posts on this thread vs franchise or MUT overall says otherwise. Personally I played it a few times and if they removed it tomorrow I wouldn't notice.

I really enjoy draft champions. Mode needs to grow a lot however for what it is now it's pretty darn good

For me, I don't think you need a elite QB. I have one it twice and my QB's were Sanchez and Garoppolo

CBs are a must for me. I take them almost over anything. For me, they are one of the most scarce. A lot of times, I've went without a chance to pick one.

I think I may start trying this method. Just started playing really, and I notice I sit in man with help over the top a lot when there is a WR with any sort of size/skill combo due to people just throwing deep all the time to those kind of guys

Also, any suggestions on how to stop the whole exploiting the TEs on the seam/deep routes in the middle? It's getting to the point where I am about to just stop playing this game, because no matter what I do I can't stop it

Exactly. If I don't have two capable corners to stop WRs, it limits me on defense because I have to stay worried about my opponent going deep. And that makes it a little tougher to stop inside routes that I like to jump as a safety. So, if I get two very good corners, I am pretty good and don't really have to make safeties a priority then. That and WR is two of the prime positions because of the new animations. Also the time length is a factor. You get down, you most likely have to start airing out the ball.

I don't really have a big problem with this. Maybe you're getting beat by this by running zones? Make sure after the play is ran, you're checking the play they called. Most guys run the same "money" plays. So check the formation and try to jump it with a LB or S.

yea, I am just going to have to start usering. I've been out of the madden game for a while, so I'm still in that "user coverage doing more harm than good" stage right now, so I am reluctant to do it. But I guess I have to do it in order to get better at it.

Also, I got a pretty amazing draw in my last run through. Started off with 93 ovr CB Rolle, then I think it was 2 picks later I got a 91 ovr CB Rogers. Even ended up drafting an 81 ovr slot guy (Hayward). Picked up some solid enough DEs and LBs and a SS. Lucked into Rodgers and Charles on offense...then the last round legends game came and I got Atwater. Had 3 red star (IDK what they are called) players in the secondary alone.

Fairly easily won all 4 games. Best team I've gotten to draft so far. Only ended up an 82 ovr, but that secondary was just too good to do anything against. My offense just consisted of getting the ball in Charles hand and the occasional look towards Britt or Green-Beckham (he was default on my roster).

Definitely going to utilize nabbing CBs as much as possible. Last guy I played had ODB and Mike Evans with 91 ovr Vick and he couldn't do anything against me

I need good on paper to get Platinum but the most I can get is 82 overall. After watching tutorials I've notice people's rating go to 73 after the coach pick but mine always stays at 72. Can anyone explain?
