FIFA 16 News Post

FIFA 16 is getting some new toys in Career mode, including two highly requested features: Pre-Season Tournaments as well as Player Training.

Pre-Season Tournaments

You'll no longer simply skip through the summer months, now you'll have the opportunity to play in three out of a possible nine tournaments played in Asia, Europe, Latin America, or North America. Just as with real clubs, these matches will allow you to work on tactics and line-ups.

As an added bonus, each tournament has a prize purse you can win and add to your transfer budget. If you are a small squad, you can imagine how this can help.

Player Training

You'll now be able to train your squad via mini-games to increase player attributes and boost player development. You'll be able to train up to five squad players each week.

Story of the Season

The story elements to your season will be highlighted this year -- including notable player or team performances, big player debuts, as well as transfer rumors. These will be presented in-game with commentary and graphical overlays.

A Few Other Big Additions
  • You can now sign free agents outside of the transfer window.
  • Scouting reports are now available for an entire year.
  • Transfer budgets are more realistic, and any overages transfer to your next year.
  • Short loans are now six months instead of three, and there's also an option for two-year loans.
  • Unlimited subs during friendlies.
  • More realistic number of 'high-profile' moves in the transfer window.
  • Improved transfer market player values.

Preseason tournaments is nice. As much as I can't wait each season to start, it's also nice to have a chance to try out some guys, see what I have before league starts. Especially if it gives me opportunity to add to the budget, even better. More purpose for preseason. I usually play all the youngsters and subs in friendlies. Unlimited subs is a great addition for that purpose. Make everyone happy preseason.

Of course we'll still get that 50 overall guy saying "boss I feel good, play me in the next game" when you're going into the EPL season. "in your dreams buddy".

2 year loans is good, hopefully it goes both ways. I'd like to get rid of some youngsters for 2 years and not have to deal with them again every season until they become something remotely good to become a sub for the squad.

I never bother with youth academy. I feel like most EPL sides have enough youngsters that can go on loan for development and come back after a few seasons to be implemented into the system. Other than that, "loan and sign youngsters" is my academy.
Agree w/ everything Hedache but sometimes I'd like to sim when I'm done with my CM to see how the youngsters pan out.

I would also like to be able to export teams from seasons and create an offline tournament featuring my favorite/best clubs.

I agree hopefully we can see more variety of players going out on loan and not just young talent. Also I hope the youth team is improved as I found it really disappointing. If you are only playing with the EPL teams than it might not seem that big of deal but when you are trying to build a lower rated to for a few years it really becomes apparent how bad it is implemented with the youth's progression. Luckily it looks like the new training aspect could help this so we shall see.

I've seen complaints about the types of players that are being loaned. If I'm not mistaken with my observation, I think the nature of loaning players is changing in the recent years (in real life) compared to the past. You see occasions like Barry going on loan to Everton, or a lot of examples like Origi's sign and loan back to selling club, etc.

I wouldn't be surprised if the development team hasn't paid back a visit to the loan logic in a while considering these changes in the market. And it may not happen for FIFA16, but hopefully one day, they'll have time to tweak that aspect of the game as well. To be fair, I don't expect them to improve everything every year. It's usually in waves in certain sections of the game. And that's understandable.

I love the game and buy it every year, and every bit of improvement is a nice surprise for me. I just keep my fingers crossed for no bad surprises.

For me, the worst thing that happened last year was removal of manual lobbies which made it really hard to find manual players online, and I try to stick with manual vs manual online play. I really hope there is something good happening in that department.

Agreed that loan logic IRL has changed a bit, especially in the EPL once the money took off.

I want the inclusion of release clauses. I've always found it too easy to build smaller clubs into powers but it would be nice if the bigger clubs would poach your club by meeting the release clause. You'd have to set release clauses when you sign those players too.

There are a couple of things I want with the loan logic.

1. Being able to bring in guys like Falcao on loan with an opportunity to buy after the full season. Obviously this whole system would have to change because your team's owners don't allow you to spend more than like 5 million currency on a loan to purchase offer. This is the second straight season Falcao has been loaned to a EPL team. I want this to be possible in FIFA.

2. Also give me more offers for guys like Alen Halilovic for FC Barcelona, Max Meyer, Julian Draxler, Kurt Zouma, etc. if I decide I want loan them out. Also your YA guys with a high OVR and POT. If the guy has ratings in the 50's give me offers from an English League 2 side. Also allow more teams from the league you are playing in. This might not happen IRL but in FIFA you can only see the stats for the leagues/tournaments you are playing in. And this is just down right sad. So allow me to loan guys out to teams in my league so I can see how they are playing.

Edit:
Also another transfer thing: if I am playing as Barcelona allow me to move players between the La Liga team and FC Barcelona B freely...I shouldn't have to spend any of my transfer budget only bring on the players wages.

Still nothing on any additional national teams in game? Or leagues?

If there was going to be, it would have been announced at gamescon. So don't expect anything now. There is always a slight possibility they do a stand alone announcement later this month. But they rarely do those. Most all major announcements for this game are at gamescon.

Is this confirmed in the game? I've only been able to find info on the pre-season tournaments. Choosing friendly opponents would be HUGE!

This is going to be such a long stretch until the game comes out. I need it in my veins!

I also just realized I hope they added sign and loans. So I can buy that up and coming player on that smaller team, but keep here there on loan to grow until I need him.

And the ability to split loan salary. Its insane for a small team to pay a guy $25k a week on loan. In real life guys like that, the loaning team pays partial salary for the year. Or the smaller team pays the loaning team a set fee and the loaning team pays full salary.

Its small things like this that would put CM over the top for me.

Agreed ZO. 2 really detailed additions that might seem minor but aid in the realism of a MM.

Spot on with everything. To add to this, I wish that when buying a young player with potential from a smaller club we could loan a young player (or multiple players) from our club in exchange as a deal sweetener.

To go a little further, it would be cool if there were partnerships between bigger and smaller clubs. Similar to what Chelsea does by sending millions of young players to Vitesse in the Netherlands. Or like how Liverpool has been sending its young players to Swindon Town for the past couple of seasons. Liverpool also played Swindon in a friendly a couple weeks ago, so scheduling friendlies between partnered clubs could be another feature.

Naturally, I prefer gameplay and "big picture" improvements, but it would be cool to have the smaller things added over the years.

Yea, it would be really cool if when I am using Barca I don't have to buy Halilovic from Barca B.

How this isn't a no-brainer of a feature, I'll never understand. I always go in and manually transfer a couple of the B squad's best prospects to the big club before starting a career mode. In one career I was doing a couple months back, Halilovic was something like a 79/80 and was still just hanging out in the second tier of Spanish football.

There is another article about FIFA 16 Career Mode details, which brings a bad news for me - FIFA 16 is available on xbox one, PlayStation 4 and PC only, I have ps3 only, don't have a ps4, maybe I will not play FIFA 16 in the future, unless I buy a ps4 later

This simply means that the features they're talking about (preseason tournaments) are only available on PC, XB1, PS4. The game will be released on 360/PS3 too.

Something else I just realized that would be a very nice small touch to MM. You know how they do these random stories with players. Where a guy is unsettled or home sick or what have you. Or he is constantly getting on you about his playing time. It would be amazing for them to implement replying to those emails. Even if it was just basic like the press conferences (which by the way needs more depth and improvement too). Where you can choose between three canned responses.

Something like a positive response, a tough love response and a harsh truth response. Something like that, have them change depend on the situation at hand. Make it so I actually feel like I am apart of what they are trying to make happen. Instead of me seeing and going "oh your unsettled, what ever".

You could try and convince guys this is the best club for the. Or tell them, ya I'll transfer you. Or maybe yes but for the right price. Or hey, what club did you want to leave for, I'll try and make that work for you. But then that would lead into there needing to be the ability to shop guys to teams. Which should also be in the game. I'm full of good ideas. lol. You could also tell guys, you're not getting the playig time now because of so and so, but I'll get you some time in the next couple of games, etc. So much interaction could be added!

Its a small thing to add that would go a very long way in immersion and enjoyment of the mode.

And that just make think, what if 2k made a soccer game!

Exactly, it's a manager mode but there's essentially no form of man managing in the game mode. You can use the press conferences, but I'm not sure that does anything other than create a news story. It would be great to be able to rave about a young player to the press and talk about how well he's playing, and have him improve even more because of the added confidence. Or maybe the player sees a dip in future performances because the manager's comments built up his ego.

But there should absolutely be a way to respond to the things that your players say to you in emails. And what you say to him should have some effect on his development, morale, etc. I hate when a player tells me he's homesick (especially when I'm playing with Liverpool and Jordan Henderson tells me he's homesick ) because there's nothing I can do about it. It would be neat if you could counteract the player's homesickness by signing a player from his home country or at least talk to the player and convince him to stay.

The previous post just made me think it would be pretty cool if they would apply to the chemistry mechanics from UT to CM. Your team's chemistry would rise and fall based on formation, lineup, playing time together, wins/losses, etc. That way I you do get the homesick thing maybe bringing in a player that would strengthen the chemistry connection with that homesick player would put him at ease.
