FIFA 16 News Post

FIFA 16 is getting some new toys in Career mode, including two highly requested features: Pre-Season Tournaments as well as Player Training.

Pre-Season Tournaments

You'll no longer simply skip through the summer months, now you'll have the opportunity to play in three out of a possible nine tournaments played in Asia, Europe, Latin America, or North America. Just as with real clubs, these matches will allow you to work on tactics and line-ups.

As an added bonus, each tournament has a prize purse you can win and add to your transfer budget. If you are a small squad, you can imagine how this can help.

Player Training

You'll now be able to train your squad via mini-games to increase player attributes and boost player development. You'll be able to train up to five squad players each week.

Story of the Season

The story elements to your season will be highlighted this year -- including notable player or team performances, big player debuts, as well as transfer rumors. These will be presented in-game with commentary and graphical overlays.

A Few Other Big Additions
  • You can now sign free agents outside of the transfer window.
  • Scouting reports are now available for an entire year.
  • Transfer budgets are more realistic, and any overages transfer to your next year.
  • Short loans are now six months instead of three, and there's also an option for two-year loans.
  • Unlimited subs during friendlies.
  • More realistic number of 'high-profile' moves in the transfer window.
  • Improved transfer market player values.

To be clear, a percentage of the overages carry over. The percentage is based on performance, meeting goals etc.

But yeah, great news!

Way to go, EA! Still going to be room for improvement in career mode, but if these changes are implemented well this is going to be a MASSIVE step forward. Time to go put in my preorder (not that it was ever in question).

I wish they'd have addressed youth academy but this is very promising. I'll assume for now they fixed it but wish it was mentioned

What is wrong with youth academy?

Extremely disappointing that nothing appears to have been done for youth teams and b teams. How can you have a Career Mode without a proper youth team that plays games and generates stats and scouting feedback? We went so many years with almost no changes how many years until they improve on what we get this year?

Well, jeez. Lots. Biggest issue is a glitch where if you call up a player after the may bump they'll never ever grow in physical stats

Yeah I agree this is the weakest part of the Career mode, I hope it is addressed.

Lot of positive improvements, lets hope youth academy was fixed under the hood at least? They have to know it was an legacy issue? I hope.

Have to say that despite some good changes in there, I was hoping for more after relatively little last year.

My biggest question, still, is if they've finally decided to fix the winter gear bug. I've asked several times on twitter, but never got an answer.

Desperate for some YA news, however, I am quite pleased with what's been released so far. The new 'graphics' and such for FUT look great IMO, as does the Bundesliga 'branding' (for lack of a better word).

I realize that there are a lot of people here that are still disappointed, but I for one can't wait for 16 to drop, and all I need now is some YA updates, and hopefully the winter gear bug to be fixed!

The thing is, they're not going to list bug fixes in this initial press release. I'm not saying to have faith because some of these problems have existed for years, but if these issues have been addressed we probably won't find out until a future Q&A, maybe even the game release itself.

Well I dont think thats a lot...

We already have this! We have News and we have comments about it but it the implementation was pretty cheap so far, really hope they put a lot of effort in this otherwise it will get boring pretty fast.

Also the thing about Transfer Budget and Player Training.

1. In any Manager Mode it should be standard that you take money from one year to the next. Whats the point of getting 20 Mio $ for winning the Champions League at the end of the Season and then the money disappears after you go forward to the next season. Its ridiculous that this "bug" was still in the game and the bugfix is now called a feature...

2. Player Training

FIFA 09 had this...maybe not exactly this way but it was possible to choose which attributes a player focuses on. I really hope they work on the balance and its not possible to turn every player into Messi if you use the training a lot.

I really hope we can implement tactics so team will actually play how they do in real life.

Haven't watched it yet, but futhead has a long producer interview video.

They also have a preview.

Some nice additions overall. Still always wanting more, but these are welcome. I still would like a way to make it one big world where you hear more about what is going on in the leagues around you. Hopefully there is more there with the news that is fed to you during the mode.

They have added lots of little things which is nice. Playing on the PC, looking forward to the mods and full featured next gen version.

Pretty excited about doing training drills with younger players between games. It’ll be nice to have something “extra” to do other than just go right into your next match.

I read about this a few mins ago on IGN and had to come straight here. Am I seeing this correctly? CM will actually be getting some new content?!?! I'm trying not to get too excited yet, but even If it's implementation isn't phenomenal it's definitely a step in the right direction for CM to get some meaningful attention (GTN doesn't count).

The problem is that they don't even acknowledge it. I mean, by now, there's no possible way they don't know it exists. It's just gotten really irritating. Keeping my fingers crossed. Again.
