NHL Legacy Edition News Post

EA Sports has announced NHL Legacy Edition, which is the NHL release for Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 this year. On the surface, it looks like a greatest hits of sorts for the 360/PS3 era. GameStop currently shows a $59.99 price, but we haven't heard anything official.

Here are the details:

So it's the same exact game with updates roster and a new name?

Very strange. So NHL 15 + updated rosters + anniversary mode + GM Connected (wasn't in 15, right?)?

Legacy Edition - marketing speak for "Listen guys you thought NHL15 was a roster update, well you ain't seen nothing yet. We REALLY mailed it in this year."

No way it's full price, right? $40 game?

Regardless as a XB1 owner, I'm glad to see they did this so more resources could be used on NHL 16.

Hey they aren't lying. They ain't saying NHL 16 WITH ALL NEW.... SOMETHING. They are straight up saying its rehashed by saying legacy. It was either the psp or ds that did the same thing with fifa. Called it legacy I believe and it was identical to the years before game besides the updated rosters.

I respect their honesty. Hopefully they don't charge full price for those still on the 360 and PS3.

Same. Listen they're moving most of their focus to next gen (really current gen), and so they're like hey if you want a NHL game with the latest rosters here it is, otherwise for the full effort experience it's available on PS4/XB-ONE

# 6 mjavon @ 05/19/15 02:49 PM
This is exactly what they should have done. People who haven't upgraded to PS4/XB1 can still play NHL with updated rosters, just no gameplay improvements, which is fine as long as it's not full price. Glad to see they're focusing their resources on the PS4/XB1 edition as they clearly didn't have enough people to put out a quality product in NHL 15.

I think it was on the Wii they did that.

I have no problem with them doing this, or even charging $60 for it if they decide to since they're being up front about what it is.

Would I pay $60 for it? Hell no, but as long as they're telling people what it is so that they can make an educated decision about whether, or not they want to buy it, I'm fine with it.

Guess I really shouldn't be surprised those of us still on the PS3/X360 aren't getting a whole new game. The only reason I'd been planning to get 16 was due to the major division realignment in the AHL anyway. Still waiting for them to add the ECHL.

My hope is that NHL 16 ps4 version has preseason games/take over team pre draft. But if it doesn't I would buy ps3 version for $30 or less.

You honestly believe in that they are going to take any money saved and put it towards making NHL 16 the best hockey game they can? I may be underestimating, but I'm pretty sure that a group of execs are gonna divide the savings and ball out with that cash before they put it into a product on a niche market in which they are the only ones making a game.

Just went to gamestop.com and it has NHL Legacy Edition listed for $59.99, though dunno if that's official or just a standard placeholder (meaning they're just listing the standard price for PS3/X360 games as the selling price) since we don't even have a release date yet.

The NHL dev team has traditionally been one of the smaller ones working on one of the annual sports releases. I don't think its a matter of money per se. More like, we have 100ish people working on this game and 95% of that team's focus is going to be the current gen version.

I would pay 40 for it, nothing more. For me it would be ok, since i don't play a hockey game since Wayne Gretzky 3D Hockey on the N64.

But 60 would be offensive...

I would consider it for no more than $30 with possibly $40 at a max. I enjoy EA's games and I appreciate the honesty they have marketed this as. Being a person who cannot afford an xbox 1, I still appreciate the game although it's a rehash.

Who knows, since its a rehash, who knows what we may be able to do cross-titles. We will all have to wait and see.

I know there's probably roster restrictions and PA licensing agreement issues and stuff, but it would be really cool if NHL Legacy Edition, supposedly being a "best-in-class" release to wrap up the last generation of EA NHL games (arguably the best generation of hockey games EVER) could have some kind of feature to reflect that, even if it's something minor like having the old rosters from the previous games.

Looks like this will be full price:

Not all of us want to spend the money. If EA is going to put out a game that they know is nothing more than a roster update - then at least have the credibility to lower the cost. But you're suggestion is not something everyone wants to do or can afford.

The price iof the game should drop to $20 after Christmas and before the new year, that's when I'll be getting it. That's when I scored Madden, and FIFA last year. Both are 15 and both only cost $20 apiece.

RIBS2That also says the release date is 12/31/2015. The whole thing is a placeholder. It probably will be full price but the Amazon listing is not proof of that
