Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR News Post

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will feature three distinct gameplay styles, ranging from Arcade to Classic as well as new ball physics according to a new blog released by EA Sports today.

The three types of play are arcade, classic, and tour.

Quote:

Arcade - This style uses a simple analog swing mechanic that is familiar for to those who have played previous games in the versions of PGA TOUR franchise. The length of your backswing determines the power of your shot, while keeping your swing on plane will affects accuracy.

Additionally, aids like power boost, spin, and an aiming arc will help make this style the most accessible. It’s like slipping right back into a comfortable, broken-in pair of golf spikes.

Classic - Remember how you used to push the “A Button” back in the day to set the power, then tap it again to lock in accuracy? Classic controls bring those days back, using a 3-Click meter to determine how far your shot goes and how accurate you hit it.

However, this isn’t some rookie mode though, you’ve got to get the timing just right to hit the perfect shot. You also can’t add spin after the fact, so if the ball starts veering off-line you’ll just have to be ready to deal with the consequences.

Tour - The true pros will want to try out the Tour control scheme, as it feels the closest to the real thing. The length of your backswing and the speed of the follow-through set the power, while accuracy is determined by how straight a line you make with the analog stick.

There are no assists such as spin, zoom and aiming arc. Just you, the club and the ball.

The blog also goes on to detail other important gameplay changes, as well as explaining how you can customize your gameplay style by combining the three above. Check out all of the changes on EA's website.

I love golf but its the same mechanics as the Tiger games. I don't think it will be a buy for me.

Good to know there's 3 different control types, and the ability for the player to make their own settings combining elements of the three. That, to me is perfect.

I'm confused, what else do you want? It's the same mechanics as in TGC really as well. You pull back, then push forward. Both games are the same in that regard, although EA's is going to include the old 3 click as well. I'm not sure what else you expected in that department?

Great options. Looking forward to this. Can't wait to see dynamic real time cameras...hopefully!

I initially had no interest in this being such a huge fan of TGC but after seeing the features and graphics I will be buying this day 1.

I know this is a small thing but why does the club head in EA Golf games have to look so big?

I'm sure it has alot to do with the fact that they are licensed clubs, and they want to (or have to) show off the brands and unique styles of the clubs.

They don't look as big as the used to in my opinion either.

Looks good. I guess I'll buy it digitally on Xbox instead of PS4 since EA access will have discount and early access to build up my golfer. It will probably wind up free eventually on Access too, so don't want to build up my golfer on ps4 then start over. Just hope the framerate is the same on both consoles, I can live with 900p XBox vs 1080p PS4 as long as the framerates are equal.

Sony really should get on board with EA Access.

Do we know for a fact that the XB1 version will only be 900p?

Probably a day 1 purchase... Looking forward to it.
We have options of a golf game and I'll support them all.

Not gonna try and BS myself about what I like and don't like. HELL YES I'M BUYING!!!!

Will it have issues or will we find out that something is missing or left out after the purchase? I'm sure but that never was enough to make me not purchase any of the TW games in the past. Bring back the CC's and the OS players from Xbox 360 that we had and let the fun begin.

Fast forward to today, their reputation with putting out a shell of a game first time around on a new console is cemented by their joke of a hockey release, NHL15. A release that was surrounded by lies right up until 2 weeks to release. So now I ask you, are you really willing to give EA your $60 again day 1? There's already an amazing, challenging, beautiful, deep, golf game out and its called "The Golf Club" And that game only costs $35.00 since day one.
You won't find me forgetting TW14 whatsoever. However, I will give them a chance to redeem themselves with RM. At the end of the day, I will have both TGC and RM and would buy PP if they ever bring it to console. All three games have their strengths and weaknesses and we will know more about RM as soon as more details and some gameplay can be had by actual users.....

Simple. Don't buy their games if that is the way you feel. No one is putting a gun to your head and making you purchase anything.....sorry you have so much mistrust and hate for EA, but then again, alot of people feel that way and I get it.....good luck with whatever you decide to do.

My question is, weren't these features already in past iterations? Why is this being marketed as new?

Which features are being marketed as new?

No, not at all, I didn't mean to infer that, just commenting that it seems to go that way in a lot of releases.

I would prefer to have everything on ps4 because most multiplats are a little better than xbox one.

I also like EA Access, and wish Sony was a part of it. So Sony is losing a sale of PGA (and other EA titles) to my Xbox one because of EA Access. I hope the Xbox version is equal to the ps4 version, but we shall see.

I also like being able to have an external hard drive on the xbox, I have a 2tb installed in my ps4, but a 4 TB external on my xbox AND the 500 GB that came with the Xbox One.

Isn't this supposed to be marketing for new gameplay features? Or did I miss something?

Questionable marketing that after two years, the first article about your game is about features that have already been in many past iterations, sans the Ball Drop thing I guess.

Quote:
The new backswing meter lets you know when you’ve reached the end of your backswing, based on the shot you have set up. When you start your backswing, the meter will begin to fill. When you reach the end of your backswing, the meter will be full, and a forward swing should be initiated.
This was in TW13, just in different form. Labeled as new.

That's being real nitpicky to say that just because they said "The new backswing" they are doing shoddy marketing.

They simply mentioned their new backswing in a blog about their game that hasn't been out in two years. In that facet pretty much everything is going to be new compared to what it was in the last iteration.

If they came out with an extensive blog dedicated to an "all new backswing" you would have a point.

It's not like they went of their way to talk about a new backswing over and over again.

How could they word that differently anyway because the backswing clearly has some new elements to it.

Putting is an entirely different story altogether, and I'm 99% sure that EA's putting system will be total rubbish compared to TGC, which to be fair is a high bar to set expectation wise, being that it's the first golf game I've ever played where I actually enjoyed the challenge of putting. Hopefully I'm pleasantly surprised in this department.
99% sure even though you admit to not having played an EA golf game in some time? Hmm

When I first played TGC the first impression I got was the putting reminded me most of TW and I had a very easy transition since I played quite a bit of EA golf games.

The only thing that is being marketed as new in the that whole article is the backswing meter. In the video the only new things they talk about are the hole map and the new ball physics when playing in the rough or hitting a ball in the trees. That's all they said that is new. I think they were just telling us what gameplay styles were in the game.
