Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR News Post

Rory McIlroy PGA Tour will feature three distinct gameplay styles, ranging from Arcade to Classic as well as new ball physics according to a new blog released by EA Sports today.

The three types of play are arcade, classic, and tour.

Quote:

Arcade - This style uses a simple analog swing mechanic that is familiar for to those who have played previous games in the versions of PGA TOUR franchise. The length of your backswing determines the power of your shot, while keeping your swing on plane will affects accuracy.

Additionally, aids like power boost, spin, and an aiming arc will help make this style the most accessible. It’s like slipping right back into a comfortable, broken-in pair of golf spikes.

Classic - Remember how you used to push the “A Button” back in the day to set the power, then tap it again to lock in accuracy? Classic controls bring those days back, using a 3-Click meter to determine how far your shot goes and how accurate you hit it.

However, this isn’t some rookie mode though, you’ve got to get the timing just right to hit the perfect shot. You also can’t add spin after the fact, so if the ball starts veering off-line you’ll just have to be ready to deal with the consequences.

Tour - The true pros will want to try out the Tour control scheme, as it feels the closest to the real thing. The length of your backswing and the speed of the follow-through set the power, while accuracy is determined by how straight a line you make with the analog stick.

There are no assists such as spin, zoom and aiming arc. Just you, the club and the ball.

The blog also goes on to detail other important gameplay changes, as well as explaining how you can customize your gameplay style by combining the three above. Check out all of the changes on EA's website.

I thought TW14 was an amazing golf game. The first time I got the game I fired it up with default simulation settings and thought it was an amazing experience. I shot close to 90 or something and was absolutely terrible but as I practiced I continued to improve but it still felt like a reasonable challenge.

I see people on here complaining about the diagonal swing path but I really thought it was interesting how EA incorporated that into the game. It wasn't like the Golf club where you can pretty much hit every ball straight as an arrow. It allowed for more missed fairways with the simulation settings.

My only real complaint about that game was when you hit your ball OB you were unable to properly drop your ball and sometimes ended up playing from ridiculously awkward places while still incurring the penalty strokes.

Other than that I thought it was the first real simulation golf game I had ever played and a lot of fun at that with the real life courses and tournaments.

If people thought that game was too easy it was probably because you didn't challenge yourself. Fire up the game on the default hardest settings with green grid off, etc and play four rounds at Agusta National and see if you can shoot something even remotely close to Spieth's four round score this year.

The game was one of the best simulation efforts EA has ever put out in my opinion and the only reason probably a lot of you didn't like it was that you dumbed down the settings to make it easier or didn't give the diagonal swing path a chance, etc.

If you played the game with wind meter off and everything set exactly to how it is in the default simulation setting and continued to work on your game you probably would have had a very similar experience to the one that I had with the game. Truly amazing and I hope EA continues the challenge us with the new installment of Rory Mcilroy PGA Tour.

This and maybe this is why some of you didn't appreciate TW14 but this is what I thought made it so great.

Microsoft's getting on board with EA Access is what cost EA Sports a retail price sale on RMPGA in my case. When I played it and saw how lacking and incomplete it was, I held off buying it for nine months on the PS4, but that was after they lowered to price to $15 one week. I'm not sure I even got $15 worth out of it, to be honest...

Sadly, it's still the best golf game on the consoles tight now. And I don't think there is an actual finished golf game on the PC I would trade RMPGAT for.

I paid $54 on day one, with my EA Access discount, and I got plenty of value from the game. While there is plenty of stuff I think they should have added, the gameplay has been outstanding.

But you know, opinions and stuff.

I should have expanded my comment to include the other EA Sports games that EA Access has prevented me from buying. I also didn't buy Madden 16, NHL 15, and NBA Live 16 because of what I saw of them from EA Access. I guess the point I'm trying to make is that while I'm happy to have EA Access for only $30 a year, I honestly can't see where it's a good thing for EA Sports if others are having the same kind of experience I'm having with it.

What you may see as "bashing" is in my mind an expression of disappointment in RMPGAT. I had high expectations for the game and it fell way short of them, IMO. It has its moments, but it's so lacking in options, features and presentation customization that it feels and looks like an incomplete product to me. I prefer The Golf Club to it on the consoles for overall play value, but neither of them can compete with Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf right now, at least with what I want out of a golf game.

If EA Sports would provide an option to turn off the tempo bubble, provide a Pro View camera option that actually highlighted and tracked the ball the way The Golf Club and Jack Nicklaus Perfect Golf do, had a real time, hole-by-hole leaderboard for Live Tournaments, and took the "homing-in" distance assist out of the aiming tool/swing interface, it would be a lot better game, IMO. The online multiplayer is also severely lacking in both presentation and options.

Call it what you want but you bumped a year old thread for no other reason to trash a game when you could have just given your negative impressions in the impression thread.

Completely unnecessary and locked.
