MLB 14 The Show News Post

Sony Computer Entertainment America has scheduled the MLB 14 The Show online servers to close on June 18, 2015 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita systems. The game was released just over a year ago for PlayStation 4 users on May 6, 2014, while it released on April 1, 2014 for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita users.

For those of you that are curious, SCEA terminated the MLB 13 The Show servers on November 6, 2014.

MLB 15 The Show is scheduled to release on March 31st.

Exactly. That's what I said. The later decommissioning date still seems to be the norm compared to what it used to be, but still sucks that its not as late as last years.

Everyone knows the servers shut down at some point, I don't think that is the point. I know Online franchise/Online leagues aren't that popular just from reading the boards - anytime anyone poses a question about online franchise improvements in 15 or complains about issues with it in 14, it is ignored or gets very little play.

I get it. The majority of players do offline franchise - that is fine. I am an online franchise player in order to play with a friend who lives quite a long distance from me. Offline franchise doesn't do it for us because we like to compete against each other and by competing versus each other it keeps our interest in a 162 game season and we are able to make it through the "dog days" that usually lead most to abandoning the season. We are 30 or so games into our 3rd season 162 game season. With this news, we likely will not finish the 3rd season.

From a previous post it looks like servers were shut down even earlier than last years 11/6 shut down. But I just think SCEA screws online franchise players. I think it idiotic that they touted online franchise at 14's launch but do nothing to improve it in 15, virtually offer no support for it in 14 (at least on the PS3 side not sure on the PS4), are not offering a way to carry forward online franchises started in 14 to 15, and now are shutting down the servers early. I would think with this feature being newly introduced in 14 they would EXTEND the server time to prolong the online franchise experience. Isn't that the point of a franchise? To carry it forward as many seasons as possible?

I am also a pure analog hitter so right now I have very little motivation to buy 15. I know I likely will at some point and upgrade to PS4 but buying the console, the game, paying $50 bucks for online access doesn't seem worth it to me right now.

I'm holding out hope that "Shareplay" works with this game, I have limited confidence in their ability to code a playable online game and don't really expect much.
I asked the shareplay question a couple times in the streams and did not get a response, for 14 currently its horrible and would be neat to play a friend with some OSFM minor league teams as an alternate to online

According to one of the streams they mentioned that it would most likely be too difficult to convert MLB 14 logo files to MLB 15.

Everything about their online play kinda sucks let's be honest. This is no different. They just don't want to support it.

Let's not forget, the PS4 version came out in May last year too. So even a shorter window.

I play a lot of The Show Live mode. Like the archive and being able to replay big games and playoffs from the last season. That must take a lot of server capacity and memory though.

It would be nice if the roster and other files were still available for those that couldn't upgrade.

With all that being said, I sold my PS4 The Show 14 last week. Bring on 15!!!!!

Hi, new to the forum, my other post didn't get a response. Could someone point me to a thread regarding the following.

I was wondering if The Show is ever going to bring back the feature of changing ticket prices, and parking, and hot dogs, etc. And ball park giveaways to draw in fans.

I think that adds to the realism of being an "owner" of a franchise. With this, you know where you budget comes from. I think it just adds another layer to an already awesome mode.

Is 16 too early for it to come back? I hope not. I'd really like to see that mode again.

I believe that it will come back at some point. Will '16 be the year, I don't know, but like you I am looking forward to the day it returns.

So online franchises can't be continued into the next year's game? I would think that one be on the priority list for online features.

I was under the impression they did?

Maybe someone could confirm one way or the other.

I am disgusted every time I see stories like this. Sports games are, in my humble opinion, the truest example of what is wrong in gaming today. They offer the LEAST amount of value of all the genre's that exist today. Why don't they just admit to what they are really doing, and have been doing for years? What sports games REALLY are is a subscription model. To be quite frank, $60 is just too high of a price for new sports games as a subscription. Especially since they starting taking stuff that was included in yearly releases out and decided to start gouging us financially for them as "DLC". Sports games have become a joke in the value department since the beginning of the LAST generation. That is why I, for one, no longer buy yearly releases for that reason alone. While I used to think my yearly financial support would in turn force the game to continue getting better, I have been unfortunately proven wrong year over year. Just look at this games online. I don't know which is worse anymore, NBA 2K or The Show? For ONCE I would like to see one of these leading developers say, "you know what, were going to release a $25 dollar update this year with rosters, schedules, and uniforms so we can take that PURE PROFIT to tide us over for another year so we can release the next iteration in the manner it is SUPPOSED to be, which is a truly enhanced and upgraded version."

But that will never happen. If we had a true consumers agency looking out for people like us, we would see a minimum three year rule with regards to the matter of servers for today's games. I personally don't play certain modes in games because some of the trophies require too much of an extended commitment to a title that might not even be out a year before I would have to move on to the latest version. I didn't buy NBA 2K14 last year, I haven't bought a Madden game since 2010, and I will not be buying The Show 15 this year because I am sure it will be only a marginal upgrade not worthy of the full price. If I am proven to be wrong, so be it. Maybe I MIGHT change my mind. But, I doubt it.

EA's Tiger Woods series one year released less than a year after the previous. THAT is what has made me keep to my new games buying habit. I just got tired of having to re-buy courses I had already paid too much for, again and again. There is just no value in sports games anymore FOR ME to justify buying a yearly release. In fact, that is not only true with sports games, that goes for games in general. I have significantly reduced my spending over the past few years because this industry has lost its way and is no longer as entertaining to me as it once was. Quality has taken such a nosedive in recent years, I just can't stomach spending the money I used to on my hobby anymore. I could talk about this subject for hours, but I do have a life. I just hope some of you would adopt the same philosophy if only to send the message.

I love The Show, but, sorry boy's, you're not getting my money this year. I'll wait for next years game.

It's a justification if it saves them time and money not having to keep them going. Instead of complaining that they are shutting the severs down in June, you should be thankful. They could shut them down a lot sooner, like they have done in the past.

the justification would be, and i don't know for sure,

a) money being spent on last year's game that could be more useful being spent elsewhere on the game

b) taking down those servers allows them to dedicate resources to the servers of the new game.

I agree with some of what you say concerning these sports titles. I myself routinely skip years. I am a huge hockey and football fan, but I usually skip the NHL and Madden titles every 2-3 years. I only got NBA2K14 last year when I picked up my PS4 as it had this reputation for being the best game at it's time to show case the graphics of the new console. But I skipped NBA2K15 because the 14 version still plays well for me when I do get around to playing the game. Also I fully support your right to skip MLB 15 The Show. But I think you are mistaken when you say MLB 15 is a marginal update, because it isn't. I myself was looking for an excuse to skip MLB 15, but after looking at the list of changes and watching almost all of the streams, I am convinced that MLB 15 has enough improvements to reward SCEA and they get to take more of my $$$ from me this year. Then again I am an offline user, so having the MLB 14 servers shut down has little effect on me. But you folks also have to be aware that these servers do cost money to maintain. If using the hardware on the MLB 15 title makes online play better for this year, then that is the price to pay. Unless you are a "Here's your job for life no matter how incompetent you are and you get to retire at an early age" government worker, nothing is free in this world.

Thankful? Come on now, I know we love this game and series but thankful? Thats the total wrong atititude. People are allowed to voice some displeasure as long as its constructive.

I already have 15 Anniversary edition prepaid digitally. That doesnt mean I cant see something negative here.
