Madden NFL 15 News Post

It shouldn't surprise you that Madden NFL 15 has a penalty problem, in the sense that most penalties are just never called in the game. With the default sliders, it is highly possible you won't see a single penalty called during a game. Most OS'ers agree that more penalties would add to the game and not subtract from it.

The popular theory is that EA doesn't have penalties called in the game because the randomness of penalties would ruin the experience for the average user. From talks I've had with Madden developers past and present, there is some credence to that being the case for the lack of actual penalties in the game.

What is baffling though, is why penalty sliders can't account for more variability where you can get to a more realistic penalty count while keeping the default game as separated as possible from penalties. Next year, it would certainly benefit the game if EA Sports could deliver a set of sliders that more adequately gives users the power to create a game experience more suited to the real NFL with actual 1st and 20s being possible.

Perhaps this could be where the all-mysterious (and oft-useless) AWR rating could finally play a hand in things on a tangible level on the field?

What do you think could be done to balance the needs of casual gamers who may not want a realistic number of yellow flags being thrown with the more hardcore Madden fans who demand more realistic handling of penalties?

Do you want to have real contracts where you have to hire a lawyer just to understand some of the verbiage used? Should they add a Rex Ryan mode where your coach accidentally uses time outs at the wrong time? How about a Justin Blackmon mode where your star WR turns out to be a psychotic addict who can't stay out of trouble? This is all stuff that replicates the real NFL that everyone here says on a daily basis they want.
Yes to all.

I'll have to disagree with people hating this game if it were realistic. The NBA 2K series is highly regarded as a sim and it's one of the more popular sports games. The biggest complaint I read about NBA 2K15 are server issues, which is nothing compared to the basic gameplay problems with Madden, both this year's game and the past games in the series.

I could of sworn I heard something in the past about penalties being implemnted correctly in Madden 15, was wrong again.

Guys, it's been talked about before. A HUGE chunk of the talent at Tiburon left to start that mobile unit. Since then, it's been pretty unstable. There are certainly still bright people there. At least the guys I know. But I may be biased there.

I highly doubt the NFL would ever allow off field behavior creeping into the game. You won't see Hernandez murder charges, AD's and Ray Rice charges, etc.....

I wouldn't mind seeing something like Roadman suspended for 4 games and just leave it at that, but I just don't see it happening with the approval coming from The Shield.

Heck, horsecollar tackles used to be in the game, but not anymore.

penalties only slow the game down, I don't want the computer calling stupid *** calls every other play. Most people(mainly the guys in this site) fail to realize that this is simply a video game.

That's why there are sliders. You don't want pens then simple, turn them to 0. Some people want a realistic type of game.

Sadly the sliders/programming just doesn't work ans hasn't done for years. But hey ho as long as it sells.

To each their own if you feel penalties slow the game down.

"The video game" is a licensed NFL game. The NFL has penalties. That would be similar to NBA 2k without fouls just to speed up the game.

Like the other poster above said, if you don't want penalties, turn them to 0.

Options are a good thing, don't you agree?

Every other play? Lol I don't think anyone wants that. So if there were 100 plays there would be 50 penalties? Also that's what sliders are for. We just want the option.

Sim mode (realistic penalties)
Normal mode ( like its always been)
Plus sliders to adjust them.

How is that concept so hard for people to understand. It's either all or nothing with some of you.
Just a video game? Lol I guess you would be fine if madden was like NFL blitz or Tecmo bowl? It's just a video game right? We don't have trouble understanding the concept. EA is the one who refers to their game as sim or "if it's in the game". 😊

Also worth noting, even 2k5 had offsetting penalties and a challenge system where you could pick what you wanted to challenge.

It's been 10 years since that and Madden is still lacking. Sorry but I don't know how anyone can be happy with how Madden has improved in 10 years, it shouldn't even be getting compared to a 10 year old game!
