NBA 2K15 Fact or Fiction: Is NBA 2K15's Gameplay the Best in Sports Gaming?

NBA 2K15's release has been anywhere from rocky if you are an online gamer, to pretty well received if you happen to play offline. As time goes on, and severs continue to stabilize, it's likely the reception for NBA 2K15 will only continue to warm.

With that said, we are bringing in three of our staff writers to talk about NBA 2k15 in a fact or fiction format. We'll discuss everything from the best mode in the game, to whether NBA 2K15 has 'best in class' gameplay.

I have 2k14 but did not play myGM because of VC issues. I only played the myCareer and then sometime February....becomes stale and eventually I ended up trading 2k14 around March.

BUT 2k15....whoooaaaahhhh.....vast improvement from 2k14. Talking about myGM....I cant stop playing this mode...not playing the actual game but just the behind the scene of GM (scouting, training, trading, strategy for the next game based on strength/weakness of both teams and players etc.) and my oh my....this mode is SO DEEP. I hope it stays this way 10 years down the road in myGM and beyond.

MyCareer is also an improvement from last year.....not BIG but very noticeable changes. I hope 2k will start to produce NHL again. PLEASE!!!!

Remember on Dreamcast, the whole, "It's Thinking" thing they had going on... Either they had us really believing that the system was thinking or Sony hasn't figured out how to transfer 1998 AI into the PS4?

My point: NFL 2K2 might have better team gaming logic than what we're seeing in NBA 2K15, FIFA and MLB The Show.

But I still think 2K did a great job this year... Best game I've seen and played in a long time.

FIFA hands down but this is good. The CPU does the same thing over and over however. Strictly pull up mid range and post fades. I haven't seen one hook shot from anyone with

If 2k13 had the 2k15s dribbling and passing with blocking it would be the best for GAMEPLAY ever. As for game modes 2k15 is better except they need online association

FIFA does some things right but the total lack of buildup by the CPU and midfield play is a gaping hole when it comes to realism. I don't see how anyone can call it the most realistic compared to some other games.

After getting in several hours now, I must say the gameplay is amazing. Intelligent defensive rotation makes a huge difference.

I agree with Armor & Sword the 3 PS4 sports games I have(The Show, Madden 15 and NBA 2k15) are a trifecta of awesome. I haven't had this much fun with the yearly sports games since PS2 era.

I would say MLB The Show has the best gameplay.

But I would also add that modeling gameplay in a baseball game is much easier than modeling gameplay for a basketball game. The NBA team has a much more difficult task.

I don't play the Show so I can't speak on that, but they've always been the best. They will release some patches and this thing is going to be beautiful with sliders. It's a good time for sports games. Was really impressed with EA UFC after the patch work they did. Even Madden was fun this year. Also, I think Hockey and baseball are less complicated sports than basketball. Especially baseball. Which is probably why programming football seems to be the hardest to do right.

That's because in baseball gameplay involves 90% of the active participants standing around doing nothing 90% of the time.

i cosign that fifa offline gameplay is not even close it s actually so boring...fifa online is fun but PES especially this year is far superior from a gameplay standpoint and team representations.
yes nba2 k has the best gameplay of our genre period, for me not even close.
i m from europe so never play the show i dont even know basic rules off baseball but i see that the gamplay of the game is praised a lot aound OP. so i dont inclued the show in my comment.

My friend who came over last few nights to play 2k with me just emailed me this...

So I got to thinking last night when I got home�.at whatpoint does a game become TOO realistic? The 2K15 gameplay is sobalanced and flawless it almost starts to feel like you�re not playing a videogame anymore but watching a game on TV. The stats, the plays, thecapabilities of the individual players�just so spot on across the board. The contrast would be something like NBA Jam where the fun is in howUNREALISTIC it is�which begs the question: which is actually moreFUN? Maybe NBA Live 15 will combine enough of the arcade-y feelwith the new age graphics/console and just enough glitchy bugs like Shaq makinga 3 pointer or something to be more FUN than 2K15 even though 2K15 is clearlythe best simulation I�ve ever played. This game is amazing, and anyone on your game board says otherwise, they are not playing the same game!

Generally speaking, 2K15 is NOT the best gameplay (7.8 rating), but it does look beautiful trying to be the best.
People keep only referencing a part of the game. If I was a Online Association player, then my preferred mode is unplayable. IF I am a MYPLAYER only player, my player can't even get into the park at times. The online gameplay has been ignored, and offline doesn't come close to the control of The Show or FIFA online/offline. Even Madden is better online.

Offline it plays a good to great game, but still has input lag, sliding issues and invisible force fields to assist in certain sideline animations that should allow more out of bounds calls not more run N gun cheese. Stat overlays are broken, causing long pauses during inbounds plays that do not add to immersion, too much reliance on animations built on athleticism rating (ex. Z. Lavine dunking triggered from beyond foul line?) creating some OP players that turn gameplay into NBA jam online, and those are just a few of the 37 pages of bugs (and counting) on these forums.

I really like this 2k15 gameplay at times but still feel short changed. Those who are raving about it are raving as their gameplay mode of choice seems very playable, mine is not (online association, leagues, or anything like it) and it is incomplete and has been unplayable most of the time since release, even off peak hours.

I don't doubt this game will get better over time with patches, but for now it is NOT the best gameplay IMO, because of many issues online and offline.

There is no question NBA2k15 has the best gameplay in any sports game. The AIs rotation and awareness are impressive...very much true to real life NBA. But i can't say the same thing for online gaming. This is something 2K should be focusing on next year. It should be their TOP PRIORITY and try to give back to the online community who deserve more than this. 2 dedicate engineers are not good enough...they need the entire team to focus solely on online on 2k16. Bring back lobby, bring back full feature of Online League. Do whatever it take to make it the best online experience possible just as you have done for the offline people. Online people have SUFFERED ENOUGH!!

I say the best because finally a sports game gets what is important, fifa, I am looking right at you.
