NBA 2K15 News Post

If you are having issues actually playing NBA 2K15 -- you are not alone. A ****** glance at the 2K15 server status page looks like a giant down day on Wall Street with tons of red and orange flashing at you.

After last year's debacle, there is simply no excuse for a game launch going as poorly as the NBA 2K15 one has gone once again. Huge chunks of the game's experience have had issues even working since launch: MyTEAM, MyCAREER, The Park, the Jordan Rec Center -- just to name a few. If you are a single player guy who is interested in MyLEAGUE, that game mode is working fine at this time.

An issue which has reportedly been resolved dealt with players losing their face scans and player profile info as servers went down -- this is especially painful since the face scanning process is something which isn't exactly easy.

Granted, when things do get ironed out (if they do), the game plays great and by most marks is a well built title. But one has to ask why, after so much flak last year, is so much of the game's functionality (even in seemingly single player modes like MyCAREER) dependent upon servers which have never performed well historically?

For now, if you are a gamer who is on the fence about buying NBA 2K15, if you plan to play modes which need access to the 2K servers (most of them) it is probably a good idea to wait a bit to see if the problems clear up. You can see the status of the servers on 2K's website for reference.

When the game is not working I spend more time checking to see if it's working than I would otherwise spend playing the game. If there was a drug that made me forget 2K basketball existed I would probably take it. Losing time.

I could work on 2k servers for a whole year for half the pay of whatever they paid those guys... and get the same result. Think about it 2k... you'll save half your money but get equivalent results!!!

For the record, I'd just sit around and twiddle my thumbs.

NBA 2K must NO LONGER be "online only". That is the common sense solution to this problem.

But that means they would have to remove VC from the game modes. And lets be honest. They wont do that.

Good job OS. Many were beginning to believe the stereotype of this being an offline forum. Hope this article doesn't mean yall won't ding them on the review. Tired or reviewers overlooking 2ks server and online issues because the offline gameplay is so good. If 2k wants to make all of these modes online dependent. ...they should be judged according to that criteria

But 2K surely had their name dragged about last year.

I'm sure you're right in saying numbers wise, 2k pales in comparison to COD, as does practically every other franchise save maybe GTA. But I have a hard time believing it pales compared to say Sim City. Now this could be purely personal and due to the sites and podcasts I myself frequent. But when Sim City launched with its litany of issues, I heard multiple outlets discussing it numerous times. Even with the disparaging problems that plagued 2k14, those same media outlets largely failed to acknowledge the outcry and issues, if at all. Again, it could be the ones I read and listen to. But if this were one day to get the sort of fan outrage that say the ending of Mass Effect 3 received, then perhaps things would be different on the next iteration. Maybe.

Yeah, you could be right. I didn't hear much about Sim City's online dependence because I'm pretty 2K-centric. I actually only heard about Sim's issues after all the fuss began to be made about 2K14's mega problems. I can really only speak for 2K, and I just recall a ton of articles (and threads on threads referencing those articles) popping up here last year, including refunds being handed up by 2K: http://www.operationsports.com/news/...rom-retailers/

The only way to approach 2k releases is to expect absolute worst. Either that or just don't buy the game at all, they have been very consistent with being terrible at first for last few years.

Bye bye 2K. I will never buy another one of your games. The last two releases have been a complete disaster. A more limited NBA Live 15 will surely be better than the crap you've just put out!

SHOCKING.

2K continues to deliver a broken online experience. This isn't something new, its been trending downwards for the past few years, and last year (especially on Next-Gen) was simply unacceptable.

All this talk on new servers, etc....and its the same old story.

I simply can't understand how a game with so much hype and so many "followers" can't deliver a simple stable online experience. Theres much bigger games out there that consistently support online gaming with more players at once without issues. (COD,Madden,TitanFall, etc)

Im really hoping NBA Live 15 can make some big time improvements, and light a fire under the behinds of 2K.
If anything, at least you know EA will have stable servers to play online.

This is pretty inexcusable on 2k's part, especially considering it's been a glaring issue for years now, and they apparently just flat out lied about all the work they've put in to improve the servers this year. I've never been much of an online gamer, even the slightest lag pretty much ruins a game for me, but so many aspects of the game are tied to online services now that this could become a giant problem if they don't get it squared away fast.

The joys of release window video gaming. As long as I can play my PC version in offline mode I'll wait it out.

Luckily myleague is awesome enough to tide me over till i can get into myteam.

# 36 RyDaddy215 @ 10/09/14 02:50 PM
Id bet a decent chunk of money that these "Online/Server" issues will be a consistent problem all year long.

Don't waste money in MyTeam, because you'll probably randomly lose everything when the server crashes every 48 hours during the entire length of Basketball season.

Really regretting digitally pre-ordering this game, I can't even use it as a coaster now.

Kinda sad we continue to let them off the hook every year with these servers, they literally been bad like 7 8 years. I know they make great games, but they need to be held accountable like the way people hold Madden accountable about some of the negative things they do.

I finally understand the article about their top "2" engineers working on the servers. All that means is that they don't have a dedicated team to develop a solid online infrastructure for this title. I'm assuming they have a very lean DEV/IT team. Most of them are apart of OS outside of that I'm assuming there's not to many more although I could be wrong. I worked on a lean IT team at my last job, trust me being apart of a team like this isn't fun especially when things are not working. What I don't understand is why spread yourself so thin 2K? A lot of your promised features require a stable online interface, and it seems you don't have the resources to secure the back bone. I'm frustrated like everyone else because I can't play an haven't had a solid experience for 6 straight years. My advice start hiring some talent to make sure that's your core online features work, make online connectivity a priority. Use some of those marketing dollars and build a networking team to help with this franchise.

Go see the credits on the game. That is not a lean team. It's priorities man. Adding 2 top engineers is not prioritizing online at all.
