NBA 2K15 News Post

2K Sports has just released a new NBA 2K15 video featuring MyPARK with a quick teaser at the end on The Stage.

A few tweets from @LD2K below.
  • The streetball style will be differentiated from the Rec center. No streetball moves out there - full sim games.
  • During sessions, you can "squad up" for that session with friends and travel together. Yes TRAVEL. More on that later.
  • We'll have a full writeup breakdown on #NBA2K15's #MyPARK coming your way soon.
And here is the full write up.

Today, we announced the return of The Park, now known as MyPARK.

In NBA 2K14, The Park was first unveiled. It was the first iteration of a revolutionary mode unseen in any sports game, bringing MyPLAYERs together to play ****** games of street ball. This year, the world is getting bigger and the stakes higher. The Old Town Flyers, Sunset Beach Ballers and Rivet City Rough Riders are recruiting true competitors to represent their community in NBA 2K15’s MyPARK mode. Each affiliation has its own 8-court home park and unique flavor of basketball emphasized by slight boosts to various aspects of your game. Pledge your loyalty to one and start making a name for yourself.
  • Affiliations: You’ll pledge your loyalty to one of three affiliations: The Old Town Flyers, the Sunset Beach Ballers or the Rivet City Rough Riders. Each has its own eight-court home park and unique flavor of basketball, emphasized by slight boosts to various aspects of your game.
  • MyPARK Rep: After selecting a park, you’ll begin earning a reputation for yourself with MyPARK rep, an earned-only feature which takes into account not only wins, but your teammate grade and opponents. As your rep increases, you will unlock various MyPARK-specific upgrades.
  • The MyPARK Championship: Beginning October 11 and lasting through the weekend preceding the NBA All-Star game, the MyPARK Championship will pit all three affiliations against one another in weekly rounds of competition. Earn points that count toward the MyPARK Championship, where the winning affiliation will receive a newly designed home park!
  • Jordan Rec Center: If street ball isn’t for you, try out the Jordan Rec Center, which features four full-sized courts and five-minute quarters of 5v5, NBA rules basketball. Games played here also count toward your MyPARK Rep and the MyPARK Championship.
  • Squads: Whether you prefer playing on hardwood or the blacktop, form a Squad with anyone currently in your park by viewing the list of players and sending them an invite. Once you have your team, use any designated Squad area located on each court. When that game is over you will all step onto the court together as a Squad.
  • Additional Features:
    • With the new Attribute Upgrades feature, you will no longer see a park full of 99s that are impossible to guard. You’ll become a specialist depending on how you upgrade your MyPLAYER.
    • MyPARK games have been shortened to 15 points, which will shorten Got Next wait times.
    • With the new always-on game score overlay, you won’t have to change camera angles to find out the current score.
    • The teammate grade meter shows how well you’re playing at a glance without having to bring up the game menu.
    • The MyNBA2K15 mobile app makes it easy to send texts to your squad or anyone in your park. Just type in the app and the text pops up on their screen.
    • Matchups are now based on height with weighting for position rather than simple join order.

I think is cool, except for those people that just wanna play MyCareer offline and not have it capped at 80

I agree the waiting is not a good look. I think this is to keep the servers from overloading (just a guess). Was hoping it would be handled like other games (COD, Battlefield, Destiny), where you wait in a lobby for maybe 2 or 3 minutes and then the next match is loaded.

I remember playing in only a handfull of games in The Park last year because I didn't want to wait for one game to end. If they had removed Who's Got Next circles, I would be much more excited.

Though I still fear half of the time you'll be spending on the sidelines waiting for other guys to finish. What's the point of that. Why is 2K making all this effort to avoid automatically matching up with other squads. Is being able to instantly start playing a bad thing?

I suspect it's introducing downtime to give you time to admire and shop for VC wearables. Also downtime impedes progress and may contribute to VC sales as well.

It's a lot of other things, but it's some things we'll have to see when we get the game. Like you've mentioned, no jersey or arena customization. No NBA type environment, most likely no announcement team. Most likely it's a must to have a full 5. Instead of running with like 3-4 and having a NBA teammate. Doesn't seem like you'll have a roster. Seems like you just add anyone to your friends list. Can you name your teams or you have to use those pre made names?

It has to be played first, but I don't see how it's Crew on steroids because the old version is still better overall. But they did a lot of things well. Like the MyPark championship which we've been wanting. And unlocking things. Other than that, I don't see the areas it's better in.

Supposedly its separate, atleast from how I understand it. The park is capped at 80.

Ronnie said that u can travel with your friends/squad in this mode...more details on that later today

I'm not even mad at the fact that you have to wait to play a game. The absolute max wait would be 20 mins, but realistically it will probably be at most half of that.

Maybe its just me being old school, but I don't need things to happen instantly if they are done right. Sometimes anticipation is what makes things more enjoyable. Plus the fact that you will be able to scout your next opponent in real time just seems cool to me.

And people will also be much less likely to quit out of games if you've waited for a while to get on the court. Holding down a court will actually mean something, just like it does in real life.

No, the secret was The Stage which he hinted at at the end of the trailer. I'm sure they'll say more about that later today.

It was mentioned but we knew zero about it. However I would not be shocked if the stage wasnt the secret mode.

Spoiler

20 mins is a long time. I understand you are different, but I am sure most people would like to just hop in a game when they are ready to play. Some people really just don't have time to sit and watch someone play a 20min game. Then get on and say you lose, you have to wait 20mins again.

The watching live games is cool as hell to me. But, they could've just had it where you can watch your Crew play or something if they just left it the old way when you can just search for games when you're ready. But it does have some positives of people watching you go on streaks and beating everyone.

And holding down a court. But I just wish you had the option of the REC type of league or the old type of Crew playing in an actual arena beating someone and on to the next game. I like your perspective though. Some of those are positives.

I am glad they added the JRC....

But, Squads is not a solution for Crew players.

Clearly says "pick a squad for your current session" which means no continuity. I.e. No win loss records for your squad, no stat tracking for your squad, etc.

Maybe I missed something, I sure hope I did.

Looks crazy. Shiiit it might be over for real life basketball when this drops. Fr Fr.

Yeah, but it is probably a step toward continuous squads next year or something like that, with significant tracking.

Don't kid yourself. Absolute max time 20 min? How do you figure? As of right now, a normal online game takes 30-40 min to complete. You have to take in account fouls, free throws, time outs, etc. Then what if the game goes into overtime?

I know that waiting for a game can be a pain sometimes, but I honestly think 2K does it, not only to try to give The Park a "realistic" look and feel, but also to keep people from quitting out of games. You see this problem in 1v1 and Team Up. People get down 8 points in the second quarter, or decide they aren't getting enough shots, and they quit out knowing they can immediately get into a new game.

Without the guarantee of being able to immediately jump back in, and possibly having to wait 20-30 mins to get into another game, it encourages people to play through and finish games.

Whether this is worth the tradeoff of having to wait is for people to decide for themselves, but I think there's a method to 2K's madness.

# 100 oMarcus2Ko @ 10/01/14 02:40 PM
there better be like 3 minutes a quarter, cause waiting for a full 40 minute game on the got next section is what killed it for me. they should of just had separate matchmaking for that type of thing. now if the rec center full, im walking smooth outta there. cuz im not sitting there for a full 40 minute game. AND WHAT IF THE SERVER LAGS OUT AFTER THE GAME! i will drop to my knees faster then a pastor bruh..
