NHL 15 Free Content Update #1 Available Now - Playoff Mode, Coach Feedback, 3 Stars

As mentioned earlier this month, EA Sports and the NHL 15 team plan to release a couple of free content updates for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 users.

The first update has just arrived, which includes playoff mode, coach feedback in Be a Pro mode, 3 Stars, and updates in Hockey Ultimate Team.

The second update is scheduled to arrive in October, giving users Online Team Play and the GM Rookie Draft for Be a GM mode.

NHL 15 Content Update #1 Details:

Playoff Mode

Play an offline bracket tournament with up to 16 teams. Use the teams from the NHL or create your own tournament tree by selecting teams from up to 12 different leagues. Play or simulate each game and track player and team stats throughout the tournament.

Be a Pro - Coach Feedback

After each shift you will get the coach�s feedback while you are on the bench. The coach will give you tips on how to stay on top of your game and grade you on your game play. Score high grades on Position, Team Play, and Stats to work yourself up the teams depth chart.

3 Stars

At the end of the game, see the three stars and their stats.

Hockey Ultimate Team:

Updated layouts and improved navigation for HUT menus.
New animations for player items.
Improved edit lines screen that better identifies players that are injured or require contract extensions.

We will continue to release more content updates for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4. These updates will include the addition of Online Team Play and a new GM Rookie Draft for the Be a GM game mode. For information about these updates and when you can expect to see them can be found here.

Think I found a glitch with the coach feedback... in a shootout it won't let you press Triangle to remove the list, so I can't watch what's going on.

Ok pretty much what I said earlier about playoff mode as it seems like nothing but a Ps3 port of NHL 14 Playoff mode which is fine but sadly the puck physics and organic gameplay there is in NHL 15 Play now mode is non existent in NHL 15 Playoff mode .

As I said early this mode is very turbo boosted/ momentum based even a forced feeling at times you have to fight through and skating feels all a skewed as I cant move properly ( love that tilted Ice/momentum ) and last year I had to raise attribute effect slider to 5 to diminish it for better skating .

I really hate that Im not even playing feeling with boosting and poor control of my players and its not that I cant beat it but it just feels off and last gen especially after having played play now for a few weeks with real interaction and incredible puck and body physics so I will contact Sean to see if this was just ported .

I don't know. I only had time for 2 playoff games before my son woke up. However, I thought it played fine. I'm someone that while I played a lot of NHL14, didn't really care for it. I think it's playing just fine in playoff mode personally. I won 5-1 in game 1(Bos/NJ) and lost 2-1 in game 2. I'll have to put more time into it. However, I think the gameplay is far more NHL 15 than anything close to 14.

There's no way that Playoff mode uses an entirely different gameplay engine then the rest of the game...

So your telling me playoff mode in NHL 15 plays no different then play now ? Im playing on allstar and I have no problem winning but its coming off as scripted and the screen is even choppy /like frame rate issue and plays nothing like I did with play now .

Not a different engine its how its programmed by Momentum / boost like it kicks in and out of Beserker mode with speed boosts ect as advantage when the cpu needs it and all the great puck/check physics and are gone ?but heres better descriptions than mine in bold

It's always been that way. There are hidden streaks and momentum in the game, too. That's why all the slider testing in the world on play now games don't mean jack for GM mode.

Ever notice how you can play 3 games and be on fire or completely suck and then turn the machine off, fire it back up and everything feels different? Yeah, the game is programmed this way. A 82 overall player might be playing at a 87 with how the under the hood stuff works.

Yes, I had EA tell me this years ago when I worked here at OS.

Agreed. You can totally feel the difference through the controller too. The other team seems to get powerful buffs whilst my team is delayed. Have felt this in back to back games numerous times over the years. The worst was in 13 going in on a big winning streak to play Detroit in Detroit during regular season and the Wings had massive speed buffs, hit protection and almost constant bezerker mode through two periods and then it died off. Period 3 was like a different game.

As it is, with 15, I am treating play now like it's own playoff mode. Gives some imagined context to the games. by18 eighty 5

Yay 3 stars!! Now I can play the game for real, good thing they didn't touch the broken GM logic or the multiple missing features that are in every other sports game because then we wouldn't have this game breaking feature that tells me who scored the most goals in a game. Thank you EA!!

Almost went in to tweaker mode but I stopped and decide to start a 16 team 1 game knockout Playoff Mode on default all star hardcore sliders with 8 min periods (nothing changed no penalty slider, goalies , shooting ect nothing changed )and the only change I made after being down 2-0 was game speed to 0 .

I was Ana vs Dallas and going into the 3rd Im down 3-2 and the cpu had 2 pp to my none and then all of a sudden I get a 5 on 3 PP but I couldnt do anything with it, close but no cigar and Kari made a great toe save .

Im playing well at home in the 3rd and now I get a 3rd PP on a goalie interference so no PP all game and now 3 in the 3rd but I couldnt tie it with tons of pressure and working the puck around nice so I lost 3-2.

Overall I just went with the flow of the game after giving up 2-0 quick ones and stayed calm and I guess I rather go with what the AI whips up each game then try and tweak something game in and out with all the momentum and stuff constantly changing so here are the stats

Ok knocked another one out and won 4-1 with a eng , I was Colo vs Min and it was close till 9 minutes left in the 3rd .

Pretty good game as I was down 1-0 and all stats but shots and Toa were equal and we both had 2 pp and thats with super low default penalties .

I seem to out shoot the cpu a lot because I block and disrupt many shots to the net , easily 10 a game and most would probably be great scoring chances .

So I guess Ill settle with Allstar default for playoff mode for now as it unfolds pretty well overall and probably better than something I can tweak in this mode but I really do miss the physics and smooth play in play now mode .

So time to continue the Battle for the cup !

I created an International tournament last night with 16 countries so obviously its strictly just playoff mode as there is no round robin tournament style and the ice has the Stanley Cup playoff logo on it, oh well I can have Team USA win the Stanley Cup now..lol

Haha, just like real life.

Serious question, if you're a Euro fan was there even a point in buying this game this year? I mean what the heck can you really even do with all of the leagues outside of the NHL? Play now has to get old after a few weeks. I guess EA really hopes they play $HUT$.

If all those leagues weren't in the game, it would've removed a heck of a lot of HUT cards
