Madden NFL 15 News Post

One of the biggest issues with the EA's Madden franchise for years has been the head-scratching decisions made by the AI, either from your teammates, or your opponents. So many times fans of the series have watched computer players routinely ignore the action on the field, and act as if they were involved in some type of digital point-shaving scheme. Communities such as Operation Sports have tried their best to tweak sliders to compensate for the apparent lack of logic, but only so much could be done to negate the consistent absurdity of the AI decision making.

It's heading in the right direction, and i'm happy with the improvements that were made. I know the game is not perfect, but it's a big step forward. Madden 15 is far and away superior to madden 25, and that is obvious, unless you just hate madden and you are incapable of being unbiased.

Play calling/clock management is definitely better.

Was in overtime. I kicked a FG. Computer then drives down field, gets to the 20 yard line. Clock was down to 5 seconds left. They had a timeout left. Computer decided to run the ball.... I wouldn't say it's very smart

My dog is smarter than my cat, even though he eats poop.

If anything, CPU cornerbacks are smarter than user controlled WRs. So smart, that the CBs know exactly what route was called and the WRs have no clue.

The amount of Madden bashing on this thread is absurd. Yes, Madden has problems. Yes, the AI still doesn't represent real life. But most other games featuring sports have similar issues respective to their game. Madden 15 is better than 25, and the AI is better than previous games. They are trying guys.

Honestly the biggest problem I have with the AI is due to the less than adequate rating system. Geno Smith an 80 ovr with 85 deep accuracy? Very funny EA.

Well a lot of bashing going on for the best madden game we have had since madden in ps2/Xbox days. In an interview awhile ago a developer said that they knew the cb/wr battle isn't anywhere where we want it yet. I would bet hands down madden 16 revamps this.

Sorry but I completely disagree. Their trying in terms of the visual effects and I can give them a lot of credit on that aspect. However the game play effort is down right lazy an awful. The same issues have been around for years and it is hands down one of the worst sports games in terms of simulation play. It takes hours/ days of slider tuning and patches to get a halfway decent challenge from the computer. I play All madden simulation and can't control the d line or I'll get a million sacks, can't user control secondary or I'll get a million picks, can't super sim because it turns the ball over like crazy and gives me the ball at the end of any quarter. Sliders haven't worked correctly for years, and have very little effect. Can't have fun playing against the computer when it doesn't give a realistic challenge.

Exactly.

I also must be playing a different game than everyone else, because if the question is "Is the game smarter?" I don't see how it's not a resounding yes. This is, without doubt, the smartest and most complete Madden game to date. Now, depending on how you feel about Madden in the first place, that might not be saying much to you.

But the game is legit IMO, and while it certainly needs improvement, I have yet to play any sports game that I thought was absolutely perfect. Why should Madden be held to the highest levels of scrutiny when a good percentage of you guys feel like it's been total garbage the past 10 years anyway? No matter what EA did, it was going to be picked to pieces...

So in the end very little effort is dedicated in making the games epic or more intelligent. Instead they focus on marketing and bullsh*t features like "Ultimate Team". Now they wanna remove key features of games like sliders & game modes that people love. Then on top of all of that, they have the nerve to buy exclusive rights so no one else can make a game. It is really absurd if you really take time to think about what they are doing to the sports genre of gaming. EA Sports is like a cancer in the industry that is slowly our beloved gaming experience.

It is an issue that has plagued EA Sports for years.... "greed over substance"
Couldn't agree with you more. Nice photo

I think Madden 15 is smarter.

I had to put on my thinking cap a few times, depending on my opponent.

If smarter means more challenging, then mission accomplished.

I'm up 31-7 in the 4th with less than 2mins, I have the the ball, and on 3rd and long the cpu calls time out. Improved AI....I don't think so.

Agree. Let them remove sliders and have a non competitive AI. I and many others (who as you stated are hardcore return customers) would never play or buy the game again. It's borderline unplayable
with the sliders in terms of a realistic challenge from the CPU.

its not much smarter. There are still too many time when the stupid OL decide to run up the field and block no one. The play it wide open the LB is coming in to fill the hole and the pulling guard ignores his assignment. At least bloody chip him or aim and miss, but not even trying? Infuriating.

Or when a WR is wide open because the CB decides to continue up field well after the WR has made is cut to the outside and simultaneously the SS decides today not only am I going to let the WR get deeper than me but I am also going to ignore that I am supposed to be covered the outside zone not the middle.

I am all for having gaffs in the game but the AI should gaff as well not just the user controlled team.

I had Geno Smith throw for 80% completions on All-Pro against me one time. Geno Fricking Smith, yeah that's realistic, dude is a 60% pass on his best day.

The A.I. when playing against the Computer is Sub-Par there's no Man to man defense no one turns their back to the ball they can back peddle all the way down field while the receiver's at top speed.. They bump after 5 yards, acceleration ratings are thrown out the door when balling against A.I. There a fell of a wall on the secondary when truing to go after the ball , Computer A.I. dominant like all the time..

# 36 Big_Blue @ 09/10/14 11:49 AM
I think the biggest areas in need of improvement are ball carrier and overall player movement and wr db interactions. You should be able to make quick speed cuts in the open field to make defenders miss. Also, you should have more control over the ball carrier without taking away the realism that they've implemented. If I'm controlling shady I should feel very slippery and agile, with the ability to change direction and jump cut in close quarters.

# 37 swishfury @ 09/10/14 12:56 PM
Smarter in a sense your wide receiver has no clue while the corner as if was in the huddle.... xD

# 38 FedExPope @ 09/10/14 04:55 PM
Hell no its not smarter. It's not even smart. It's dumber than ****. It won't run replays on questionable calls inside of 2 minutes in the 2nd and 4th quarters, and if you try to challenge a call at any other part of the game you're told "There's nothing to challenge."

If we're so smart at Tiburon, why don't we just scrap the challenging system and have the game just correctly call every single play? Since we can't handle making a functioning challenging and replay system.

# 39 ggsimmonds @ 09/10/14 05:00 PM
It is smarter but much more work needs to be done.

Individual players are much smarter but what we need is to raise that AI to the team level so that the AI catches on to your playcalling tendencies and calls plays to adjust.

If I get 3 sacks with Suggs the AI should adapt and either slide the line to his side to get a double team or bring in an extra blocker. THe AI currently continues to use a standard pass protection scheme.
That is a team/coach level adjustment.

# 40 Muhuff @ 09/10/14 09:25 PM
AI adapting would be great. Catch on to what is beating them and adjust. Madden has got better in that each game plays a little different with different teams. They should improve in game adjustments. But that's wishful thinking being that they can even fix standard gameplay AI.
