NBA Live 15 News Post

We had our first glimpse of NBA Live 15 way back in April, then in June we found out the release date (October 7th) and read an open letter from Sean O’Brien, which promised a lot for NBA Live fans to be excited about. Here is a direct quote from it.

Quote:
We’ll start sharing gameplay details in July, and will continue to provide in-depth insight through August and September. During this time there will be plenty of content popping up here on the NBA LIVE website, as well as hands-on previews from your favorite sports and gaming outlets. We know we’ve got a lot to prove this year, and we’ve got a solid plan in place to provide you with all the details and take the first steps to making NBA LIVE 15 a game you’re excited to play.

Looking back at July, gameplay details were not revealed. In fact, the only real information that we had in the month of July was that a demo could come earlier than expected and they placed the @NBA Twitter handle on the basketball. Maybe the loss of Scott O'Gallaher sent them scrambling? Who knows, let's move on to August.

This month has been filled with screenshots of various arenas and a late Damian Lillard cover announcement with a few more screenshots of him sprinkled in. Not exactly the "in-depth insight" fans were expecting.

While there were some hands-on impressions in August from GameInformer and MMGN, as well as a podcast from our friends at NLSC, no other site has written anything else about the game.

So here we are, almost in September and we still don't know what to expect from the game. What modes are there? What gameplay changes have been made? What are they hiding from us?

NBA Live fans deserve better.

I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired...

As an NBA Live fan from back in the Live 95 days, I'm really really trying to be an NBA Live fan again. I played a TON of Live 14 (more than it probably deserved). Honestly, EA makes it so hard to get excited about the product. Kudos for writing this article. Someone needed to let them know how the fans are feeling.

I think they should take some advice from Jalen Rose: "You got to give the people.... give the people what they want."

We don't know what's possible for EA and what's not. They had a ton of room to make up but that isn't always a detriment to quick progress especially when we are talking about a completely new system. Because it's much harder to push the limits the closer you are to maxing out potential. For example it's easier to go from 0 to 75 than it is to go from 75 to 100. So the likely hood that Live takes a substantial leap and gives far competition this year is very plausible.

My thing is why not just wait instead of forming a mostly baseless opinion. If Live is indeed a subpar product they won't just sneak it pass anybody before the game becomes available. If EA's M.O. gives you a bad vibe of years past be guarded, but don't cheat yourself by drawing foregone conclusions based on so little. And that previous statement could be made for the other side.

So basically give them a fresh start each year, even though past history/evidence suggest very little is going to change.

All I can say about that is I respect those who operate under that mantra, even though we can literally copy and paste these exact same comments/sentiments every single year. We keep "hoping and praying that it'll be different next year" and then next year rolls around and it's the same exact mess we're talking about the following year with EA's "Broken Promises" and such.

1. A lack of talent. What I mean is a lack of people working on the game capable of actually delivering a game worthy of a 60.00 purchase by today's STANDARDS.

2. Credibility. Actually number 2 is a direct symptom of number 1. When you fail time and time again with NBA live, you resort to all kinds of PR tactics, measured communication strategies and the list goes on. And the most insulting thing about it is that they are trying to sell you lines of BS thinking you as a consumer aren't smart enough to pick up on it. While EA will never full admit they are incapable of delivering an NBA experience worth of 60.00 by today's standards, due to social media, the internet, etc they have no choice but to actually acknowledge some of their shortcomings. They wont full on admit it.. like I said, it's "measured" communication.

3. Competition. Wether you like NBA2k series or not, the truth is they have been consistently putting out a better game for almost 3 system generations now. Im not saying the game is GREAT.. what I am saying it's been consistiently RELATIVELY better than NBA Live's franchise. What I mean is you might think 2k is a 8.5, relatively that puts live around a 4 at best. If you think 2k Is a 5, then Live is more like a 1.5. Right now at least one company clearly and considerably further along in terms of a vision for their NBA franchise, production quality, and flat out talent behind the game. Period.

EA has no one to blame but themselves. If there were no social media, and no competition doing it better (even if better is relatively speaking), you never would have gotten the open letter's apologies, and the promises form EA. They kinda have no choice now due to the fast flow of information on the information super highway. EA with their Live franchise right now is like a really bad bunch of Washington politicians who always dance and dodge around the tough questions until they are in a corner and cannot avoid the spotlight being shined on them.

When EA's Live team starts understanding that today's gamer is a more savy, perceptive and smart kind of gamer maybe they will stop with the BS communications, the underwhelming game selling at full price , etc will stop. EA, right now when it comes to Live, most people aren't buying what you're selling. Literally and figuratively.
Well said.

EA is a company. Companies are always selling you always. So yes the M.O. from a marketing stand point doesn't change much from year to year but again that's almost every large company ever. 2k certainly not being excluded. Both companies have "broken promises" it's a question of how many that ultimately matters. EA is in a position to fix more broken promises than 2K IMO and that's not a compliment to EA.

Personally 2K has grown some what stale to me(not to mention I absolutely hate what they did to Myplayer). So I'll greatly appreciate it if Live could offer me a different form of quality basketball gaming. If not I'll just go without either like I did last year.

Not sure why so many people are concerned with how critical anybody else is with EA and Live. Every critical response they get is on them. They made that bed repeatedly, so they have to lie in it, fair or not. They've had chances to build good will and get people off their backs numerous times over the years and they did nothing to help themselves and as we're seeing with articles like this even needing to be wrote, they're not helping garner any benefit of the doubt from anybody still.

If people want to take a wait and see approach, I'm cool with that and respect it. However if someone wants to lay into them for what they're seeing, yet again out of this franchise. How can anybody have a problem with that? What has been shown in the last ten years to suggest that they're wrong or harsh in their criticisms?

I guess I'm a more logical person than most. Because I don't see the point of laying it to EA about Live 15 over what happen with Elite 11 Live 12, Live 13, Live 14, Live 10 or Live 1 for that matter. None of it has any impact on what we see with Live 15. I'm judging Live 15 based on whether or not Live 15 is up to my standards or not.

Again I'm someone who was here calling developers out(which I don't condone) when they tried to sell us on how revolutionary and great Elite 11 was going to be when it wasn't even good enough to make it to the shelves and crushed Live 14 when I say the trailers and gameplay. However none of that has anything to do with Oct. 7. If Live manages to close the gap in terms of overall product and give me a brand of videogame basketball I prefer over what I've been getting with 2K lately I'll go and buy Live 15. It's as simple as that. Otherwise I'll be right here with probably you and many other expressing my displeasure in the most constructive way possible.

Don't even know why 2k is constantly being brought up in this discussion....because 2k will be fine....they have consistently released games, and done so successfully going on 7 years now...the Live franchise has not.

So what information they've released, marketing tactics they use has no bearing on what Live is doing....

Can we let Live stand on it's own two feet please?

Is anyone really upset by this? I just have a hard time believing there is anyone out there who loves this series and is really bummed out by the lack of news. The only person who could possibly like NBA live are video game hipsters who like because everyone else hates it. I can see them now with their stupid hats.

Calling this franchise a dumpster fire is unfair to dumpster fires. From now when I see flames shooting from a dumpster I will say "Oh look at that NBA live".

Forget gameplay details, we need to see Live moving. Not sure if you remember, but last year, before releasing the first trailer, EA released a teaser for that trailer, showing, if I remember correctly, Steve Nash dribbling while moving etc.. Some of us here spotted the bad movement already from that few second piece of trailer. It was pretty obvious already then.

As far as gameplay details, they have already said they had made 500 core gameplay improvements. That's all you need to know (which is basically...nothing). Live needs to show players move/behave like human beings before telling us "we improved X, Y, Z". This has not been shown, hopefully NOT because of obvious reasons.

I don't think that asking for players to move/behave like human beings is too much to ask for in 2014. Especially that they seem to be able to do it for other games (and if it's because different studios are making different games, then Live's studio is way behind the others, and EA isn't really concerned about that.).

Why don't they use the awesome nba live 10 engine and tweak that with next Gen graphics and be done with it?

# 114 youvalss @ 08/31/14 08:37 PM
I don't know. Some said Mike Wang had some rights on it or something, but I don't know. It seems by the info released, though, that they are trying to go back to some Live 10 elements.

Why don't you all wait and see what's in store for this year's version, as opposed to comparing it to last year?

I believe that those who are open to judging this game on its own merit, versus the recent history of the Live series, will be pleasantly surprised.

The development team is set, and they're a very talented group of guys.

# 116 WTF @ 08/31/14 08:49 PM
Also, for what it's worth, they deserve this thread, because if you make marketing statements, be ready to stick to them.

However, the devs aren't the ones that make those promises. To call this group lazy, or untalented isn't appropriate or correct.

WTF, come on man, I know you must have seen some assets or played the game. Spill the beans man, haha!

I'm excited for the game though, give it a chance guys, this week should open the flood gates and we literally just got the first 2K trailer last week....

He has???! Well then, WTF, do share...!

Maybe you can hold out five seconds or ten, maybe fifteen or twenty but after a while, no matter how much will power a person may have. It won't matter because you'll just have to tell us!!!
