Madden NFL 15 News Post

Madden NFL is a series which has always been under the most intense of microscopes in the sports gaming community. It’s almost like Madden is a Kardashian, with its every move being dissected and broken apart on a level that would make any other sports game crumble.

Despite all of this, Madden does continually give a good and solid NFL experience most years, but is still flawed in one way or another. The past several years we have witnessed Madden fixing one set of problems, only to see a new batch arise from those fixes. I have long said football was a difficult sport to program for, and it certainly stands to reason that is the case. However, despite all of this, Madden sells extremely well and has seemed on the cusp of making it to the level of the elites in our genre for a couple of years — but it has ultimately been held back by something.

Madden NFL 15 is no different. On one hand, the game is a blast to play. On the other, it’s an, ahem, "maddening" experience.

This foot planting issue must be an X1 exclusive, I havent seen nor heard of ice skating from anyone with the ps4 version. Can someone chime in who owns or played that version?

Other than that, the score and reviews from other dont really mesh at all, it cant have the same score or lower than the yr before but at the sametime be a better game. Thats confusing.

Did they fix the Connected Career issue where it took 30mins if you wanted to control all 32 teams? And can you edit draft picks? TY

i bought it and its basically the same madden better presentation qb throws more realistic they tried to minimize turnovers more pass deflections than picks better zones dbs close quicker than last year 7.5 is accurate but its not a sim game yet still no penalties unless you tweek the sliders no accurate weather no coin toss they dont kick extra points from the 15 but overall youll enjoy it i think its time for some competition 2k or somebody wish someone does the fbg ratings on ps4 to see how its plays

Every year and every game is different. If we simply did what you suggest we should do, most games should be 10.0s, including Madden, at this point. Standards change each year as they are raised by other games, and year to year progression has to be accounted for. A review score for a reviewer is a reflection of the value a game brings...if a game moves forward but still has major flaws which existed in the prior version (or are troublesome to the final product) then it will have to get dinged. On the same token, a game which was an 9.0 one year releases the next with a roster update...is it still a 9.0 or is its value far less since you can get the same game with slightly older rosters for a much lower price?

It's review theory and there are as many approaches as there are outlets to how to approach scores, some don't even mess with them because people concentrate too highly on a singular number and not enough on the content within the review -- which is a sad reality at OS and most other outlets that choose to use scores for reviews.

It's not about that at all. But it's easy to talk about and sum it up when you just talk about patches; we're sitting here, and it's supposed to be the franchise videogame, and we're in here talking about patches. I mean, listen, we're talking about patches. Not a game! Not a game! Not a game! We're talking about patches. Not a game; not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last, not the game, we're talking about patches, man. I mean, how silly is that? We're talking about patches.

Lol jk idc. Just having fun. I havent played it yet but I bet there are lingering issues along the lines of the white sleeve glitch that dont get fixed this entire cycle. Sim stats might be it but gosh I hope not.

Good review.

I don't really care for the play call UI, but I''ll adapt.

Also, the cut scenes come a little too much and I when I tap out of them, sometimes I end up picking a play by mistake.

Other than that, the game really fun.

GOD I HOPE SO. I am an offline career guy, always have been since Madden/2K had this feature. It's so underwhelming for me. If they are going to focus so much on UT, then I wish they would have an offline seasons mode like they do for online (maybe they do, but from my quick look on my 6 hrs I didn't see it), then maybe I'd play a lot more UT. Great review, I really hope they patch the Career thing quick. Destiny and FIFA are right around the corner and this game may get shelved much quicker than it should.

Good review man. Pretty much sums up my feelings about the game. The on the field game play is solid but, unless your in a 32 man online CFM the sim stats and progression stuff could really mess up enjoying single player CFM. Surely they will patch it.

Great review, one of the best I have seen on here ever.

I haven't posted in the impression thread because last year I thought M25 was awesome the first two weeks then a month later I traded it in as the flaws showed up.

Not making that mistake again.

Based on the limited time I had with EA access, I agree with a lot said in this review.

It's fun, for sure, but...

So far, this definitely is not the leap I expected. I worry that leap will never come and it will always be "same game with some band-aids" each year.

I am hoping after playing in a user CFM my opinion changes. CPU in-game, all aspects of in-game, just really really needs to be overhauled. How the CPU reacts, calls plays, runs with the ball, just isn't where I think it should be honestly.

Hopefully, are getting a retail ps4 copy and diving in deep, I find more positives. Also, I am sure our slider guys will find a way to make the CPU play good ball.

CFM sim stats needs a patch ASAP

Hmm guess I'll wait till a patch comes out for simulated stats because I will exclusively play CFM. Solid review, def want to play this at some point.

@2:45 watch the line backers glide across the middle of the field. Also watch how the Qb turns around like he's standing on a merry-go-round.

this is true. I personally prefer the sliding in this instance as the foot plant animations have always been too slow - no one in the NFL changes direction that slowly - if they did, they would not be in the NFL

I'm liking that the main complaint so far is sim stats. They will patch this guaranteed, but I'm really not looking forward to the play calling system as is. Seems tedious. Either way, I have faith that on launch day a fix for the stats will be available, if not by end of week.

# 56 ryan36 @ 08/23/14 01:07 AM
I'm more worried about franchise QB leaving after 2 or 3 years. I don't even care if they're rated low.

I recognize the reason they're gone is they're rated low. But I thought they'd assign certain roles under the hood "franchise qb" etc

Not often I disagree with a review here but this one is one.
I know it's not much but IMO it's at least an 8 although I'd give it a solid 8.5

Excellent point.
Same here. I've had more fun with this game of football than I have in a long while.
So yep, that's what maters most.
