NHL 15 News Post

Sean Ramjagsingh, producer of NHL 15, is stopping by OS this evening for an open chat with NHL fans. In the comments below, you can ask Sean anything and he will answer as many questions as possible on the heels of his interview he did with us today.

If you haven’t done so yet, we’ve covered many of the basics of today’s news in our interview, that there will be no EASHL, GM Connected, OTP, or Life the Life in NHL 15. So don’t be that guy who asks the question which we’ve already answered! However, anything is fair game, and Sean plans to stick around for awhile and answer your questions under the EASportsNHL username.

Keep in mind that we will be patrolling the thread, cleaning up duplicate or ill-tempered posts — keep the questions clean, constructive, and to the point. Please remember that we are enforcing a Zero Tolerance policy towards anything that isn't constructive to this discussion. Think before you reply. We want this to be a constructive and positive experience for all participants!

So with that, ask away!

Hi Sean,

to tell you the truth I've been really disappointed by the gameplay videos I've seen in the last days. They looked like NHL 14 with a fresh coat of paint. Is there hope that puck physics and neutral zone gameplay will be different in the final version or did I watch the wrong videos?

Thanks

Is there any chance of EASHL coming out later this year or next year in an update?
I think if you did that, all would be forgiven c:

Hey rammer was wondering will you be utilizing the PS4 touchpad in the game? Thanks.

Can you take a selfie?

It seems very easy to gain the zone, it looks like your CPU defensive teammates are very passive, has there been any re writes to their behavior?

Has there been an effort to make goal scoring more organic and more real life? Will the same "hot spots" work from last gen?

I understand you have a small team, but I could totally forgive the omission of modes if the AI was organic and more realistic and goal scoring came from proper hockey plays and angles.

In the future will it be a priority for your team to aggressively improve the meat and potatoes of the game, specifically the AI to strive for a realistic, organic game of hockey and do you think that's a realistic expectation on my part on this generation of consoles?

This is all I really want in a game, a somewhat realistic AI, preferably customizable by effective sliders. The bells and whistles are nice, but what I really want is to feel the difference between players and teams, use realistic tactics and skills to score and defend and not feel that neither I or CPU players use "cheap" tactics to score and win.

I believe if you concentrated on that philosophy in the long run you would gain the simulation and the casual gamer. The graphics are nice enough, I would be more than happy with last gen graphics if we could get the kind of gameplay I described in my previous paragraph.

Thanks for your time.

We have worked on making it more difficult to gain the zone. One of the most noticeable differences is seeing aggressive D-men sometimes step up and go for a hit or pinch you off as you cross the blue line.

We're always pushing to make goal scoring more organic. The new puck physics have significantly helped in this areal. The old 'hot spots' shouldn't work however that's not to say that there aren't new 'hot spots' that we'll need to tune away via tuners.

With regards to the meat and potatoes of the game, the core AI and organic flow of the game is something that we're always pushing to improve. The new AI system we built this year will be the foundation for realism on this generation of console.

Rammer, how often will we see the same crowd animations?

Also I noticed in the videos there were a lot of multi player collisions where each player "bounced" off of one another and fell to the ice. Can this be toned down?

Are we still able to have line brawls? Has anything be changed with the fighting?

Some of the vids we saw were in first person view. Will we see that in the game at all?

I think that you'll enjoy the changes we've made once you get your hands on the demo.

How much of the new gameplay improvements are on last gen versions?

Puck physics?
Player physics?
AI?

Connected Gm online please? Will it be in next years game?????????????

# 91 yourdailyryan @ 08/19/14 09:51 PM
Sean,

This will seem harsh, because I know the presentation was a big focus for you guys, but is there any plan when having Doc Emrick come in throughout the season, to re-record any of his goal calls or somehow improve what seems already in place? The play-by-play showcased in the earlier video simply didn't reflect the intensity and passion we know and love from Doc. He sounds bored.

Has be a GM mode seen any improvements? Specifically trade and free agency a.i., player development, deeper drafts after the first 2 years, and sim engine improvements for more realistic stats and such.
Also, I know you can't commit to a date but do you anticipate OTP to be patched in to PS4/XBOne before December?

Sean,

I hope you enjoy a stiff drink after some of these questions. Thanks for doing this.

Thanks for answering! So there won't be a patch when Xone/PS4 are updated with mp3/music stream?

Is the order in which game modes are localized or rebuilt on new-gen hardware determined from on-high? In other words, did higher-ups require your team to complete, for example, Ultimate Team before EASHL or OTP?

Has there been any thought of adding an online 7 game series mode? So I can challenge a friend to a 7 game series similar to the battle for the cup mode in previous versions but online.

Exactly how many developers were assigned over the last year to work on Hockey Ultimate Team?

How many developers were assigned to work on OTP and EASHL?
Hahaha. I guess this question was missed. Or maybe its a secret lol.

What is the plan for the future of GM connected?

Why are one timers like the one at the :20 second mark in this video still in the game? I feel like great strides have been made in terms of creating a somewhat realistic representation of the physics of hockey, but this kind of a shot is physically impossible and has always stood out to me as something that I thought needed to be removed:

From that angle on a one timer, that should be a simple re-direct. Not even the best shooter in the world could rocket a one timer from that side on a shot like that. Aside from looking awkward, it also rewards people for not having good hockey sense to not pass to someone in that position, and encourages lazy play because they can score in unrealistic ways like that. Whereas if they had to get themselves in a better position to shoot after receiving the pass, there would be more natural puck support because they knew they couldn't get a shot off from that angle like that.

Also, are we able to edit our lines and save them for online play? Or at least use the HUT version of edit lines where it's just a one button switch, prior to online VS games? Because having to scroll through the entire team and replace guys individually takes way too long and is extremely tedious, and often times the guys who do the rosters are way off on the accuracy of the lines.

I am always critical but I do genuinely appreciate it when guys from the development team come on here and answer questions like this. Even if not everything we're saying can make it into the game, all that we can ask for is to be heard.
