The Golf Club News Post

Much like the real game of golf, creating it’s digital counterpart can be difficult and frustrating, but extremely rewarding when you hit the sweet spot. Trying to emulate the tension of needing to knock a wedge close to the pin from 125 yards out in a video game is not easy, but that’s exactly what developer HB Studios is trying to do.

In a year in which video game golf fans thought they were going to be denied country club membership, a small Nova Scotian developer has jumped in to fill the void. Now the question is, have they drilled a 40-foot putt, or left just short of the cup?

I tried it and just got my money back from Microsoft. Not my cup of tea, I love golf and golf games, but this just wasn't for me. I recommend if you really have to have a golf game before EA puts out their game, then get it. If you can wait, wait. Just my 2 cents, but to everyone who enjoys the game, more power to you and I hope you have fun!

Thanks just saves me..... I'll wait

Game is great. Not sure what you want.

The gameplay is every bit of tiger woods but better. The course creator allows infinite courses.

Not sure how anyone could choose EA sports IF they want a simulation over arcade.

If you're looking for boosts, power ups, stale and repetitive announcers, and fancy broadcast overlays then, no, this isn't for you.

However, if you're looking for a "real" golf experience where the playing field is much more equal with a collection of 2000+ (and growing) unique courses and the ability to create your own, then TGC is for you.

I've been playing golf games on PC and console since the early 90's. I've put more time into this game in a short few months than I ever did with the others. Truly an outstanding game!

I don't care for golf in real life or in video games, but if I did then I would buy this game in a heart beat. It looks authentic to the real game and the graphics look really good also.

I can't wait to get home shoot 5-6 over and love every minute of it. What irked me about the tiger woods series is that 12 under was a BAD round on most courses, even on higher difficulties. I want there to be a marked difference between difficult courses and easy courses. Then I can't wait to dive in and create my own courses and just let my imagination run wild. A par 5 with an Island green that would be very difficult to stick in 2, making the smart play to lay up, but not impossible if the aggressive player wants to give it a go. I can make that if I want to, and I will, amongst anything else my mind can conjure up.

I realize there isn't any "progression" with your golfer, but how is the stat tracking? For each course (even the created ones), does it keep track of your best scores, number of birdies, longest drive.etc.. If it could someway keep track of your individual handicap (like real golf) this would be a must-buy.

I'm just hoping for someway to keep track of my progress and see improvement.

this^^^

outside of the course creator which I would say $25 of my money is towards(in my own mind because that is what really really makes me excited), the other big thing that makes me happy is that this game is your skill against the course design.

not your skill plus Taylor Made Driver buff, Nike polo buff, footjoy glove buff, nike shoe buff, etc so those bunkers pinching the fairway at 300 yards haven't been in play since about 4 days after you bought the game... if I want you to have to deal with bunkers if you go aggressive then you are going to have to deal with bunkers if you play aggressive... or like you said, lay up and have to club up your approach shot but you landed safely in the fairway.

this makes me very excited, nothing was fun about playing on a licensed version of Pebble Beach when 75% of the course design was lost because my created avatar had grown so powerful that I could just outmuscle the course. heck even with the real golfers, you ended up never having to worry about 60% of the course.

mine is downloading while I'm at work, I can't wait to jump into a cleanslate golf course and start on hole 1 this afternoon.

haha I had a feeling watching twitch it was Canadian East Coast developer since the "john" commentator guy has hints of that unmistakeable accent.

Game looks good, it would be a no-brainer if a few of my friends had it. I wish there were different clubs even if they are invented and attributes to make golfers unique even if they were subtle.

The poster asking the stats I would like to know too if they offer anything at all in that dept.

Not sure if I missed something but is there no way to aim your shot in the preview camera ?

Correct. You have to aim your shot from the default camera behind the golfer.

Goes back to HB's vision for this game - trying to make it a more true-to-life experience.

I'm all for that. You don't know where you're hitting the ball. Have to figure it out like a real golfer would.

Anyone have any more, or seen any more, details more specific than "soon" for PS4? I would love to give this game a try. It has me intrigued, especially the course creator with the amount of time I could sink into it.

What do people think of the course creator on x1? I found it to be very very slow and cumbersome to use on the x1....i won't have the patience to use it till it improves

Sony usually only updates their PS4 online store once a week on Tuesdays.

Next Tuesday would be the most likely date.

There is a decent amount of stat-tracking. It will keep track of your best round on each course, longest drive, etc. but you have to go to that specific course in the "course selection" to see them.

I'm a bit of a stat-geek and would like to see a bit more stats, but I imagine they are coming with future updates. As an early-access player I can tell you that they have been very responsive to the community and their suggestions.

I will say that there seems to be an opportunity for this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbkLvy29jQg

From what I've heard, HB Studios is very interested in making this happen.

I don't like the game. Not sure what it is about it but I don't care for it.
