The Golf Club News Post

Much like the real game of golf, creating it’s digital counterpart can be difficult and frustrating, but extremely rewarding when you hit the sweet spot. Trying to emulate the tension of needing to knock a wedge close to the pin from 125 yards out in a video game is not easy, but that’s exactly what developer HB Studios is trying to do.

In a year in which video game golf fans thought they were going to be denied country club membership, a small Nova Scotian developer has jumped in to fill the void. Now the question is, have they drilled a 40-foot putt, or left just short of the cup?

Allow me to address some questions from the get go: The reason the game is 720p on the Xbox One is simple -- we couldn't get the framerates we wanted at higher resolutions.

I also would like to discuss the framerates. Do not get bogged down in this number. These framerates run very smoothly on the consoles. Unlike many games, we have separate threads for the input and the graphics rendering on the consoles. So while the graphics threads render at the above numbers, the input thread runs at 60 frames per second on both consoles. So overall performance feels higher than what you may be imaging the number 30-40 fps represents. Framerates on the PC are not on separate threads, but they are also not capped.

Having a similar issue. In a party on Xbox Live with a buddy, both playing the same course. When I hit start in game and select him from the "Active Friends" list, and then pick Send Invite, it doesn't appear that anything happens when either of us send invites to each other.

What are they charging for this on the consoles? I see it is 35 on steam. If it is the same on the ps4 when it releases I will probably snatch it up, I miss playing a golf game when the weather is ****ty and I can't get out on the real course.

Same price on the console - $34.99

Thing is, it's a great game, but I want to download courses straightaway. Do I have to play them and then they're downloaded? Any help appreciated.

I don't think you actually download anything. They are just on the server and you play them. Kinda makes it an online only game though if you want to play others creations.

If you really like a course, favorite it. Makes it easier to find and play again.

Not sure about consoles but on PC, courses are stored on cache once you play them, you can always access them offline.

I've really enjoyed the game so far, while I enjoyed TW I find this to be a much better representation of real world golf. I feel a little lost using the course editor and like someone else said found it a bit cumbersome. Hopefully a little more time and effort with it will remedy that.

I've been waiting for this game since I first heard about it on the Press Row Podcast. I've been playing since release and couldn't be happier with my purchase. If you are looking for an arcade golf game like Tiger Woods/EA this is not for you. No boosts or buffs...just you against the course. I haven't tried the course creator yet, but I'm sure I will have a blast designing my own course.

I played the beta and just got a chance today to play the finished version on PC. Much improved performance and it is nice to see so many stats included. The presentation is a bit bare bones but considering the studio size this is a great effort and it is nice knowing the group is from Nova Scotia - where I went to school.
