NBA Live 15 News Post

GameInformer has just posted 20 things about NBA Live 15 you need to know. It includes quite a few details about presentation, gameplay and game modes.

We have posted a few interesting details below, but make sure you read the entire article here.
  • The commentary team of Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy returns. Given last year’s wooden performances, this year EA’s focus is on getting more banter injected in the proceedings. The two are spending more time recording side by side, and like NBA 2K, that dialogue between the two can be interrupted when something significant happens on the court.
  • The developers have completely overhauled the passing game and added more control back from Live 10, which to many was the last decent basketball effort from EA.
  • EA is placing a big emphasis on transitional animations to make the action look more believable. This obviously includes getting rid of instances where players take shots with their backs to the basket, a particularly egregious animation foul that occurred last year.
  • Fans of the EASBL will have to wait another year before the mode returns. EA wants to wait until the head-to-head online competitions, general gameplay, and visuals are up to par before investing in online team play.

People did not play dynasty because it wasnt very deep and engaging. This is one instance where they need to not look at the data points for their next plan of actions. Im glad they are deciding to invest where people are spending their time in game, but I can guarantee that players would play dynasty just as much as the other modes if it were more engaging. Not spending time on it based off of one year worth of data is a mistake.

"Given the popularity of Ultimate Team, Live Seasons, and Rising Star, by default Dynasty is becoming less prominent in the development cycle. That said, the team is determined to fix the sim engine so it creates better results with the right teams winning and more believable player movement through trades and free agency.

EA has not altered the trade mechanics to let you include future draft picks. "

I read this and it put me off. Since 2010, it was looking more and more likely that I was going to get both games... Not so sure now because i'm a huge Dynasty/Association player. Actually, it's the only mode I play.

This stuff sounds great, but I'm gonna need some footage, which seems to constantly be a problem each year with EA and NBA Live. Screenshots are one thing, but the fact that they seem wary of offering a single gameplay clip, to show where they are in comparison with 2k, has not been a good sign in the past and is probably not a good sign this year either.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a long time fan of the series, and I'm not trolling by any means. I just know how amazing 2k14 was on my PS4, and it's going to take something really innovative and special to compete with that, especially considering 2k15 will be improved from last year as well. You have to love the competition though, it keeps these developers from getting lazy and redundant with their work.

Exactly! I don't understand why they are still playing hide and seek with this game. They screwed up last year, so they have no choice but to show their hand early to get people interested. If they choose to play this safe again then Live 15 will sale under 200,000 units like Live 14 did total on both the xb1 and ps4. You cannot play things safe when you have things to prove. Especially now with Scott O' Gallagher going over to the other side and sharing vital info on what you guys were doing with the production of the game.

This is a higher res pic of that screen. You can see a lot more details such as the sweat and the pattern on the sleeve.

It's safe to say that the EA rep messed up big time by admitting Dynasty mode (Or ANY mode for that matter) took a backseat in the development cycle. They've spent 4 years now on putting out NBA Live 15 seeing as I'm sure they're porting a lot of things from 14 which had a 2 year dev cycle and you're telling me that you can't focus on anything more in depth than your graphics. I'm sorry but that's BS.

ANY game in ANY genre where the devs openly say we focused on our graphics and making it pretty at the expense of the game modes and depth is a game that's destined for failure.

* Edit* I meant 3 years not 4.

They said they focused on graphics and *gameplay*. How big of a difference that makes remains to be seen, but they didn't only work on visuals.

"20 things you don't know..." Yes. Because EA hasn't showed us anything.
The official things EA has shown; the trailer, screenshots, shoes, etc. hasn't shown us anything at all about the game.
GameInformer is giving us 3rd party news but we're still to see 1st party news from EA that's directly significant to the game this year.

I know, I went back and took a look at the live 10 threads to see when and how much info there was back then, wow what a difference compared to now.

You can be upset about the amount of info, but we aren't in total darkness in terms of what we are getting with Live 15.

No definitely not but we haven't see anything substantial about the game either. We have seen a trailer (which doesn't say anything about the actual game) and we've seen screenshots of arenas and shoes and some players. That still doesn't say anything about the game itself.
I find it strange that they haven't shown us anything substantial yet.

I more or less meant the 3 short videos that EA released. That has been the only real news we've gotten. Personal it's been enough to keep me interested. But your point is legit and fair.

I think Live '15 will be okay. Even from the little they showed us. It already has excellent graphics, and they have 3 more weeks to work on it. I'm still not completely convinced it will animate correctly, but I could be wrong. I'm only interested in online play from Live so I don't care about the other modes. I'll play 2K to live out my basketball fantasies. But trying to play 2K online is an exercise in frustration lol.
