NBA Live 15 News Post

GameInformer has just posted 20 things about NBA Live 15 you need to know. It includes quite a few details about presentation, gameplay and game modes.

We have posted a few interesting details below, but make sure you read the entire article here.
  • The commentary team of Mike Breen and Jeff Van Gundy returns. Given last year’s wooden performances, this year EA’s focus is on getting more banter injected in the proceedings. The two are spending more time recording side by side, and like NBA 2K, that dialogue between the two can be interrupted when something significant happens on the court.
  • The developers have completely overhauled the passing game and added more control back from Live 10, which to many was the last decent basketball effort from EA.
  • EA is placing a big emphasis on transitional animations to make the action look more believable. This obviously includes getting rid of instances where players take shots with their backs to the basket, a particularly egregious animation foul that occurred last year.
  • Fans of the EASBL will have to wait another year before the mode returns. EA wants to wait until the head-to-head online competitions, general gameplay, and visuals are up to par before investing in online team play.

  • To cut down on clipping animations in the paint, EA has added physics to any player taking or contesting a shot. Now when players collide, the position of their forearms and hands are taken into account throughout the shot attempt.

These two points alone make me very excited for the game. Fixing animations and adding physics to the players.

I'm kind of glad they aren't going the same route as 2k with rising star... I didn't really wanna play a RPG basketball game

i thought jalen rose was in the commentary?

-Don’t expect Rising Star to follow in the footsteps of NBA 2K’s MyCareer mode. EA has no plans to integrate cutscenes into the mode. For Live 15, the developers are focusing on improving the performance tracking.
-EA Tiburon plans to launch a free trial on both Xbox One and PlayStation 4 so people can experience the game before buying.

im kool wit no cutscenes and i cant wait for the demo. this game def needs a demo and a beta would be nice.

Sounds pretty good, a little sad dynasty mode has taken a back seat though.

REALLY excited about this news. Im interested most in seeing these physics during shot attempts/contests.

Really bummed about Dynasty mode though.

Depending on what happens with NBA 2K15, this is an area where NBA Live potentially could have capitalized on NBA 2K's shortcomings. For sure last year, the EASBL would have had a huge advantage over The Park mode that NBA 2K14 offered.

Plus when you have 10 human players taking up all the AI spots on the court, the major AI problems that NBA Live 14 had become a non-issue.

The story mode in the created player mode came from Sony first NBA inside the life.

They need to update dynasty mode. You could not even tell who made the all star teams or all nba etc. I still think that is the most popular mode in sports game and most realistic.

Not anymore:

"So is Live Seasons in the top three for modes that people spend time playing?"

"Yes – Ultimate Team, Live Season, and then our traditional Rising Star and Dynasty modes. You really see a difference if you look back five or eight years ago – it was all about Dynasty mode. The evolution has happened because the NBA as a league in particular and its players do a great job with what they do socially."

"Does this mean by extension that Dynasty mode is becoming less prominent in your development cycle?"

I would say yes right now.

I'd say it's less prominent because they've been quite shallow in their last Live games, I wouldn't be eager to play a mode (which I really like by itself) that there isn't many options or things to do with.

Hopefully they can patch in the ability to trade future picks. I still think Dynasty should receive improvements every year, I know a lot of people that prefer dynasty, that is definitely my most played mode. That and rising star. I couldn't care less about UT or Live Seasons.

It's just a new trend in video games lately. I mean you see the same thing with 2k in association and online leagues. Guess gamers get bored with that mode. Not talking about us at OS

I'm interested to hear more about the dribble and pass mechanics. I'm not sure I like the wording that dribble moves can be performed just by flicking left or right. It made it sound too simplistic to me.

This is probably the most depressing thing I've read so far.

"Given the popularity of Ultimate Team, Live Seasons, and Rising Star, by default Dynasty is becoming less prominent in the development cycle. That said, the team is determined to fix the sim engine so it creates better results with the right teams winning and more believable player movement through trades and free agency."

This is awful, guess will be 2k yet again, if any basketball this year, or maybe another sports game will take its place and time, like the golf club or NHL 15 if they are solid. Was hoping Live would be take this seriously, and bring something solid and fresh to table. If no solid dynasty mode, non buy for me.
