NHL 15 News Post

EA Sports has published the NHL 15 E3 Trailer a bit early on their site and it looks wonderful. This is our first look at the new-generation console gameplay in action and there is a lot to like about the trailer.

“This is the start of a new era for the award-winning NHL videogame franchise,” Dean Richards, General Manager, EA SPORTS NHL. “New technology gives us the freedom and horsepower to change almost every part of the game. From the way players look and move on the ice, to the unrivaled electricity of the in-arena experience, to the sights and sounds of an all new broadcast team, NHL 15 brings the game we love to life in ways that were never possible before.”

n NHL 15, fans will see the most realistic looking and skating hockey players ever in a videogame, along with most detailed and authentic representation of the game of hockey itself. 12 Player NHL Collision Physics and Real Puck Physics capture the hard hitting chaos and unpredictability of the sport. Gamers can look, move, play and think like a real hockey player with all new authentic player modelling and an evolved arsenal of tools, including the Superstar Skill Stick and Vision AI that allow for an unprecedented level of control and elevated player intelligence.

Witness the sights and sounds of authentic arenas across the National Hockey League, as 9,000 individual crowd models, the most ever in a sports videogame, hang on every play called by an all-new commentary team of Mike ‘Doc’ Emrick and Eddie Olczyk from NBC Sports. TSN analyst Ray Ferraro will provide insights at ice level. In addition, a new partnership with NBC Sports brings a world class broadcast package to the game.

NHL 15 is set to arrive on store shelves for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One on September 9th.

Check the trailer out above and let us know what you think and what you find!

I loved the way the bench was reacting during the fight, some players leaning on the boards, some sitting, players on the ice just bent over while others stood up. Sure is a far cry from the old empty arena mini game from NHL13..

I'm excited for the game stepping into next gen.

There's really nothing to talk about in this trailer. I'll still buy it but they need to completely scrap the goalies they had last gen.

Not counting goalies, there's 18 players dressed for each team in the finals. That's 36 players. Of 36, the following wear the 4500:

Greene Lewis Clifford Gaborik Zuccarello McDonagh J. Moore Martinez Nash Carter that's more than 1/4 of all players playing in the finals. Now add huge names like Toews, Stamkos, Malkin, Getzlaf, etc. If there is one helmet that nearly a quarter of the league wears it isn't really nitpicking to want it in the game.

Again, I'm not one to get upset because a random stick is missing or gloves don't look the way I want them to. This is something different. The 4500 not being in the game is kind of like third jerseys not being in the game. Can you live without it? Sure, but it's pretty unacceptable for it to be excluded.

Obviously not much to see here in this trailer, other than the graphics are good, which we obviously knew going into it.

But I can't get that Kane goal that they showed, out of my head. It looks AWFUL. He's standing straight up the whole time, the toe drag/deke thing looks terrible.

Then the shot, the puck just like, rockets off of his stick into the top corner. He doesn't slide his bottom hand down the shaft even a little bit, to get leverage to lift it. It looks so clunky, just like it always has.

I'll wait to reserve full judgment, especially with the AI, but I honestly have 0 faith in the EA NHL team to get it right.

My bet is yes. The trailer said it was all actual gameplay. I know that doesn't mean the commentary is automatically in-game, but I sure hope it was.

Is this game playable on the floor?

Kane's backhand is fantastic, he can do it from standing straight up. I believe they copied this backhand in the trailer (or at least tried to get it close)

Toe drag looks a little stiff, I'll agree with that. But the shot isn't far off

I'm glad you posted that. The reason the shot looks so off in the game, is because he literally is backhand wristing it. Whereas in the video you posted of him in real life, he is sort of chipping it on the backhand. To chip it, you can keep your same hand placement/not really get down low, but to shoot it like he does in the game, you can't just keep your bottom hand in the same position like that and shoot it top shelf on the backhand, at least not with anywhere near that kind of velocity. That's why it looks so dumb in the game.

The shot follow throughs have always looked bad in EA NHL games, especially the backhanders. I was hoping they'd fix this, because it just looks so weird.

Not surprisingly, they botched the Stars uniforms.

Also, the players bodies just look weird, not quite human.

Agreed about the bodies. I can't put my finger on exactly what, but something about them is off.

That's on Bauer I believe. They want to showcase the new helmets. It's annoying because a ton of guys wear them. It's still in the code, just not available when creating/editing a player.

I'm a huge fan boy of the NHL series, I loved NHL 13 and NHL 14 even more.

Having said that, that trailer looks AWFUL. They are touting the physics in this game? Did you not see Kane's goal? Those physics looked terrible. Look at his back hand shot follow through, thats the mechanics of just chipping the puck in. Watch the real play its presumably based on, his bottom raises up almost to his head with the stick sky high. Yeah I know its just 1 backhand shot, but the point is the physics are way off which is what they are touting the game on.

The 2 things that look great are the stadium and the announcing. Game play and physics look average to below average....The problem is stadium and announcing is cool for the fist 40-50 games of play, but after awhile you've seen it all and heard it all, and what matters is the game play.

I mean if they have some kind of intelligent announcing with the rise in the voice and yelling players names at crucial moments, thats a giant leap forward. But call me skeptical, thats easily set up for a trailer....

NHL15 Datsyuk doesn't look like real Datsyuk at all. Or how about Tavares? Oh dear Lord Stanley! I just don't understand how EA manages to **** up faces like that. And how on earth they have to make faces look cartoonish? (FIFA series anyone?)

Crowd and arenas look great. Faces, **** they are ugly.

Don't get me started on today's hockey culture.
All players must be robots. Nobody is allowed to have any interesting quotes.
The only time players can show emotion is when the game is out of hand. Then, and only then, can you show emotion by punching someone in the face or spearing someone's junk.
Then it's "That's good old Canadian hockey, right there, eh!".

But heaven forbid you celebrate a goal with more than a slight nod or fist-bump.
And heaven help you if you ever publicly declared how you'd like to score more than 40 goals.
I forgot that all players have to be 20goal, 60-point two-way players. Anything else, and you're not a 'team player'.

Everything I've read said it's actual commentary. At least the various outlets reporting on the trailer say one of the great things about the trailer is the new commentary.

That alone is going to make the game so refreshing since we have been listening to the same commentary for so many years.

Better not let me celebrate how I want, or else this will occur:

As much as I want to believe it's in-game commentary, I don't think it is. You can hear noises in the commentary track that are usually heard in a real-life game broadcast and not in a virtual game. The whole commentary track is also noticeably blurred from the background music. I doubt it's in-game commentary, but I will be very impressed if anything near that level of commentary carries over to the actual NHL 15 game.
