Great posts. I agree.

Also, my ground game is next level awful. I don't think I will be able to play online until I spend a LOT of time in that tutorial and in practice matches.

Here are my biggest 2 issues with the demo.

1) Takedowns - Powerslams. What kind of crap is this? I feel like I am playing WWE sometimes. I see it 2-3 times a fight (even those that end in round 2) and it is getting annoying and looks terrible. God I hope they take those out or make them very hard to do.

2) MMAi - I thought this was supposed to make the fighters fight like themselves and match up vs the opponent.

When I play as Jon Jones, Gus goes for takedowns a lot which does not seem right as Jon is known for his nasty ground and pound and Gus has the better boxing area it seems. Should he not try and stand up with me and avoid take downs?

What do you guys think you will try for in career mode? I kinda wanna be a submission guy since I always picked a pure striker

Well rounded fighter. I always use to be a submission guy in the past and to me it wasn't as fun because much like this game, the past games were nothing but a reversal fest on the ground.

Never really tried being one, I hope it's not like that

Can only hope

Actually I'm not seeing this at all. Gus spends 90% of the time standing with me. When he attempts takedowns its usually happens when Gus's stamina is low. Also Gus does attempt takedowns in real life. According to this: http://www.ufc.com/event/UFC178

He lands 2 takedowns a fight on average. Jones averages 2.37. So Gus should be attempting takedowns.

Didnt have an issue with reversals on UFC 3 especially on Advanced difficulty. Once you went higher the reversals came back in force.

I'm getting the ground game now. It can seem unresponsive, which tends to make me hit the buttons to strike more than needed and try my transitions too often. I need to slow down.

Sometimes I find myself cancelling my own transitions? I think I'm spamming them too fast.

Cpu on advanced and higher used stalled transitions as well. Made them a lot less predictable to reverse.

That's not what I'm saying.

Jones is known to be a better ground fighter and Gus is supposed to be able to box better, I feel he should wanna avoid going to the ground against jones. Against others, yes takedowns need to occur.

He is the only UFC fighter to ever take him Jon jones down. He has a good submission game too so he is solid on the ground. He wasn't afraid to try and take jones down in real life so he should be afraid in the game.

Don't watch the UFC honestly. Just watched their fight and the game seemed to be trying to many takedowns IMO.

Again though, it's on easy. Maybe the ai is dumbed down.

Ok you don't watch the UFC but you are saying Gus goes for too many takedowns? Like I said, he averages two takedowns a fight so him attempting takedowns isn't unrealistic or dumbed down.

I've played the demo maybe a hundred times and compared to jones, Gus attempts significantly less takedowns than Jones in the game. I just don't know how you can say Gus attempts too many takedowns if you haven't watched his fights.

I hit my groove. Pulled out a submission victory 5 out of my last 6 fights.

My favorite looking one, the Darce Choke from side control bottom:

Made Gustafsson go night night. Seems like Gustafsson is more vulnerable to the darce and knee bars. I got him to tap to a knee bar 4 times.

To play devils advocate, I think there is very satisfying payoff if you can execute something like the pettis/henderson showtime kick in the same context it happened in real life with our game, with the same setup and the same outcome. That would be an amazing moment.

And given that our game will be what people are playing in the future when who knows what happens in upcoming ppv's, it's prudent for us to look ahead at where mma techniques are going and what things may come up in the future and give the user the opportunity to explore those techniques as they may very well show up as the next big highlight reel finish. Plus it's fun, exciting and that's what some people look for in the game.

Is that payoff worth it given the drawbacks you outline? Certainly a subjective thing that different people will have differing opinions about. It's a debate that was had internally as well. Perhaps there is a better approach that gives more people what they want, and I respect where you're coming from on this. Know that moving jabs have come up many times throughout development and is certainly on our radar, but are not something we delivered for this year's release as you've already discovered. I wish I could give you a more satisfying answer than that, but hopefully this at least give you a perspective on way things were done the way they were.
can we map jabs to l1 on cafs as that may help a bit with the walking jab issues or are they just thrown so stationary that holding forward and pressing l1 and either punch button will have no effect. Are we even allowed to map any strikes to these modifiers or just forced flashy stuff as my evan tanner caf will have none of that superman punch riff raff. thanks in advance.

You think there is a more detailed tutorial in the retail game? Or am I just dumb for not understanding all it as of yet

You are not dumb and if you are you are not alone. I suck at everything non striking. I really want to get this game, but I just can't enjoy it. It's all user error but sadly the demo isn't making this a buy for me.

I really hope EA can sign a deal with Golden Boy promotions and make a next-gen Fight Night.

You're not alone swamp. I lefitimately feel pretty stupid because routinely, in non-striking moments, find myself unsure of what direction I am trying to push what stick and what button to press with it. I tend to just spam L3 to avoid ground or clinch at all costs at this point.

Just to clarify, this not a complaint about the demo, this is me admitting that I am not a skilled player at this game and am still trying hard to understand the mechanics.
