NBA 2K15 News Post

2K Sports has just announced Kevin Durant as the NBA 2K15 cover athlete. Expect it in stores on October 7th for Xbox One, PS4, PS3, 360 and PC.

The 2013-14 Kia NBA Most Valuable Player previously appeared with Blake Griffin and Derrick Rose in NBA 2K13 and wearing his Texas uniform in NCAA March Madness 08. We won't count the canned NBA Elite 11.

Check out the official press release below.

2K Announces 2014 NBA MVP Kevin Durant as NBA® 2K15 Cover Athlete

NBA 2K’s collaboration with the NBA’s best players continues in the next iteration of the legendary franchise

2K today announced that Oklahoma City Thunder superstar, four-time NBA scoring champion, and recently crowned 2014 NBA Most Valuable Player, Kevin Durant, will make his solo debut as video game cover athlete on NBA® 2K15, the next installment of the top-selling and top-rated NBA video game simulation franchise*. With the selection, Durant completes a banner year in which he garnered the NBA’s top award for the first time in his career and fulfilled his lifelong dream of being the feature athlete on an NBA 2K cover, all while cementing his legacy as one of the greatest players of this generation.

“I’m honored to be selected for the cover of NBA 2K,” said Durant, who is currently leading the Oklahoma City Thunder against Los Angeles Clippers during this year’s NBA Playoffs. “I’ve been an avid fan and player of NBA 2K since I was a kid, and being selected as the sole cover athlete of NBA 2K15 is an amazing accomplishment at this point of my life. I feel like my time has come.”

“We’re continually challenging ourselves to align the NBA 2K franchise with the best of this generation, and Kevin Durant brings one of the NBA’s greatest into our stable of kings,” said Alfie Brody, Vice President of Marketing for 2K. “Our goal is to consistently bring an unmatched experience for the millions of fans that play the NBA 2K series, while paralleling the NBA’s evolution and growth year-over-year.”

In addition to his accomplishments as four-time NBA scoring champion, and winning the 2014 NBA MVP award, Durant’s impressive basketball resume includes four All-NBA team selections, five NBA All-Star selections, and the 2007-2008 NBA Rookie of the Year award, solidifying him as the perfect choice to bring NBA 2K basketball to fans across the globe

2K also announced that customers can pre-order NBA 2K15 for the PlayStation®3 and PlayStation®4 computer entertainment systems, the Xbox One all-in-one games and entertainment system and Xbox 360 games and entertainment system from Microsoft, and PC by visiting http://2kgam.es/BuyNBA2K15.

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K studio, NBA 2K15 is not yet rated by the ESRB. NBA 2K15 is scheduled for release on PS4™, PS3™, Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC on October 7, 2014 in North America and October 10, 2014 internationally.

If your looking for control the other NBA game is where you should be looking. Control is something they've always pride themselves on at EA, thats actually why the game looks so robotic at times cause you can break out of anything at anytime.

I honestly thought Lebron would've done multiple covers.....

The game looks robotic because it is robotic and stiff, no animations and frankly EA never gave a crap about making their models move like humans. It wasn't that bad on the PS2/xbox. Frankly the controls are worse than what they were in the past and there are so many people contradicting what they want on these forums im not sure if people know what the heck they want anymore.

Let's not start over exxaggerating what's going on here. The game might have alot of animations but that doesn't mean you can't control anything. I think there are things they need to really fix, add some RT physics, remove some things but I rarely say "dang I played a whole game and the entire time I didn't control not one move".

You guys with the hyperbole man, its gotten old as heck.

Anyway, KD is popular right now, and I have no idea how they choose who's to represent but I wonder if there will be some kind of Durant mode or something

One thing to note: Durant is an avid 2K baller. The guy plays all the time and he's on record stating he absolutely loves the game. I'm sure he will definitely have his opinions on how to improve or make the game more immersive. Now, if the dev team works that in is another story.

Funny thing is as bad as people talk about this game, I see alot of pro players playing this game and posting stuff about it all of the time. Claiming its not real and how terrible it is yet these guys are always playing and referencing the game.

KD complains about how they get his face wrong though

Word!
this game gets so over analyzed and complained about yet there is NO OTHER basketball game you can remotely compare it to! so its not SIM like... okay, show me your ideal SIM like basketball game!

PC version better be the next gen update. Not buying overpriced paperweight consoles.

2K is historically a wonderful basketball series. But for the sake of discussion, I do not believe a pro player's video game preference always speaks directly to a game's quality in every regard. I think it means it's the basketball game to have these days. But then, Madden has been the football game for years just as well. Through the good years and the bad, there's always been a bevy of professional football players who have been playing and loving it.

In fact, I feel as though it took 2K years to break through with the mainstream audience, despite providing what I always viewed to be a superior simulation product. It seemed NBA players were all about NBA Live, nearly up until its implosion. Before Live, Shaquille O'Neal was bringing the entire NBA Jam arcade machine with him on road trips. So again, I think NBA players are probably similar to a lot of us - some are looking for realism, some are kids who grew up to be professional ballplayers who are just looking to play what's easy and hot, and some are a mix of everything.

Would've preferred Steph Curry as the cover athlete but Durant is good too.. He deserves it..

I wonder what they will do with PC version because I'm having a blast with Spurs and don't plan on stopping.

Since we're throwing Hail Marys based on a picture, why can't "Your time has come" mean our feedback has been taken to heart and will be implemented in the game?

Congrats to KD on the cover

I know u like the game 23 just as much as any of us around here and we are with u, but at times I feel like ur reading too much into other people opinion against what they don't like about the game...

check my gamertag if u may and it will reveal that I have played every single one that can show history since achievements were introduced and it goes even further back to first one ever published......what I am getting at is my onion is valid just as any other person on here so I take everybody else's likewise, so that include urs as well

with that said, I agree that the animations are a double edge sword, it provides a beautiful realistic looking game, jus that it doesn't feel like it...
controls has taken a regression and the response time is frustrating...passing alone to get passer and receiver to line up cause delays and unnecessary animation that looks awkward and unnatural

now they got rid of the two man animations, so the illusion of great defense and player awareness was gone for the sake of a bit more freedom and control, and am all for it

most people that don't have much complains about the game seems to be those that play player vs CPu modes....
players like myself who only plays User VS user online and offline are the ones who seem to have the most to say

why? because the game seem predicated towards VS AI modes... with regards to the AI playing and reacting compared to real life teams...now this is awesome and am sure hard to do as developers .......

but it never seems to play differently when playing a user it feels like ur still playing the AI that is trying to reenact and duplicate real to life rebounding stats and pace that it feels like it is forced on the users...
like rebounding..i still feel like it is a movie many times I try to jump for a rebound and no animation plays out or it is delayed so joakim could get a rebound I was in a better position to get and never got it just so a better rebounder than Bosh am controlling can get it

so to each his own other people play the game differently and will have different experience while doing so....am not comparing that game to another other than itself and nba 2k14 in my opinion on next gen is a regression gameplay wise than the previous

great to see Durant making so much stride with basketball and accomplishing a lot in his career....I want nba 2k15 to be a great game, actually am wishing for it....but this time around I will be more patient before buying

If curry keeps it up he'll have his moment but durant is the ideal choice especially the year he had and winning MVP. Him and born can be argued as 1 and 1a. His sneaker is out selling lebrons and his popularity is growing with all the commercials it's almost a no brainer. I think Blake griffin has a better stake on the cover the curry he stepped his game up to another level that most didn't think he was capable of and also has a lot of star power

I like the series but I do have many problems with the game, but im not coming here to write a book because its basically been done to death here from day 1.

My point is, people complain so much you'd think this game was a piece of garbage and its not. Its not their best iteration but its not the worst either.

I see less and less of telling 2k what was right and more about whats wrong 24/7. Bringing up NBA Live is the biggest joke trying to justify a stance because its just not even close, im sorry.

Don't get me wrong, I think its justified too because I for one cannot stand the online aspect/direction/priority this game has taken. I dont care for those modes and they arent the reason I ever played 2k but thats another subject. I've spoken against it many times, and they need to fix the issues at hand most definitely. I don't care for the hype the way its presented like the userbase are all 8th graders and I would love for them to expand on NBA stuff more than just making everything about My player, parks and crap. IMO it has ruined the game catering to this crowd. You don't have to agree but that's just what I see.

It was a thought that I had just from seeing alot of posts here and there.

I agree with you about the issues with animations which is why I made that reference, I just dont feel like writing a book about it everyday on the forum.

The hyperbole stuff though man, sometimes its just too much.

I mean realism and simulation is important but at the end of the day, it sould be about fun and gaming.
I back you 100% Lets start a damn petition. I am so sick and tired of all the canimations. It's sickening when I can play Madden (11 players on each end) and have more control than playing 2k with 5 vs 5. If we as gamers come together and refuse to spend our hard earned on 2k's product, they will have no choice but to meet our expectations.

I hear what you're saying, but why was it successfully done with previous installments? Or were those not sim?

Thank you Kolanji. I am so happy to hear people expressing the same concerns that I have been complaining about these last few years. I understand a lot of people are newer to the franchise, but if you started from the beginning like a lot of us, the decline in control and gameplay STAND OUT. Someone earlier mentioned sacrificing control for a sim look. I would rather the game take a step back from sim if it meant I would have more control during gameplay. It's a game, it's supposed to be fun and responsive to the controller! What the hell is the purpose of playing a game that doesn't respond to your inputs on the sticks man? I won't continue to bark about the gameplay, I just hope that when October arrives people aren't just shelling out their hard-earned for the same ol same. Your voice is in your wallet.
