NBA Live 14 News Post

EA Sports and the NBA Live 14 team have completed all of the trades throughout the league, updated more than 500 player ratings and added Noche Enebea (Bulls, Lakers, Heat, Knicks, Suns, Spurs) and St. Patrick’s Day jerseys (Celtics, Bulls).

With the release of title update #2, about a month ago, the team can now update in a more timely fashion with the Live Update system.

They have also explained the differences between synergy sports and ratings updates:

Quote:
SYNERGY SPORTS VS. RATINGS UPDATES

We also understand that there has been some confusion around Synergy Sports updates and how it relates to ratings. The important thing to know is that while Synergy Sports contributes to player tendencies and AI – as well as driving our LIVE Season challenges – roster updates are still manually done by our development team. We do, and will continue to, use Synergy Sports to inform all of our ratings decisions and input, but it’s only one piece of the puzzle. Think of the player ratings as a modifier to all of the Synergy Sports data that’s coming down the pipe in real time.

HOW SYNERGY SPORTS WORKS

Now, let’s dive into how Synergy Sports actually works and what’s being updated immediately after each NBA contest. Synergy Sports automatically updates player tendencies, which directly affects gameplay, so players on the virtual court behave as realistically as possible.

For example, Synergy Sports sets the shooting percentages for distances for each player, which are then modified by the player rating. Additionally, every frame, it uses the tendency updates to help the player evaluate what direction they want to drive, what shoulder they shoot over and more. As mentioned before, this evaluation is constant, using the data updated within an hour of a game’s completion. This is just a small sample of all that Synergy Sports drives for individual players.

Synergy Sports also powers our LIVE Season mode, both NBA Rewind and BIG Moments. After each game, Synergy Sports pulls data on some of the best performances, which we then review and feed into the challenges. This is a bit of a hybrid manual/automated process, as we want to make sure the challenges offered are entertaining and fun for players. Between the challenges, and the tendency data, Synergy Sports has allowed us to make over 13,000 updates and 1,300 challenges during the first half of the NBA season, and we won’t be slowing down. The process is only getting faster and more efficient as we work with it, and we’re completely committed to offering fans the most accurate reflection of the NBA possible.

George is a better defender but Harden is a better penetrator and stronger than most people think.

These guys....honestly the most deceitful, shady, sneaky company on earth. Soooo they couldn't explain how their updates work until now? They hit everybody with radio silence when everybody was questioning their updates and things until after they this last update?

Clearly they weren't capable of pulling off what they were promising and selling this game on prior to launch so they had to keep stalling until they could finish. This year has possibly done more damage to the brand than just not releasing at all would have since they've been lying and sidestepping every step of the way.

This is why I think they will never be able to truly compete with NBA 2K. Live 14 has done even more damage to the Live team to the point where the writing is on the wall for them. They will never be able to get the sales to match or exceed the money they put into this project year to year because of bad reputation and not giving the community their best effort. People can be optimistic for Live, but at the end of the day we have to keep it realistic. Where are they going to get the budget to improve this game if they never make a profit from it?

When it dropped in 06 on PS3 the commentating wasn't exactly a knock out the park. Gamers had to get use to them Marv Albert was the voice of the NBA since the 90s. Another thing is, this Lebron visual update is groundbreaking and should be given it's due. What sports game has ever went in changed the appearance of a player during the season? Don't worry I'll wait. As far as the DAILY UPDATE promise thank those "****** gamers" and "2k converts" for holding up the dev team that had to stop what they were doing to get them a PRACTICE GYM smh. As you can see now they can get back to the game again and work on Live 15
Uhh 2K. That wait didn't take long, eh?

Especially as long as they hold an NBA license. Ya'll check me out on PS4 Live 14 leader boards if you want to know who I am

I'm not a homer for either, but I would like to see both games thrive and give the community great basketball games. If you heard Scott O. Gallagher in those recent pod casts, then you would know he does not have any higher up intel on this title because he is neither a top developer or suit. You can be optimistic for this game, but most of the community is not really excited with what Live has offered so far, and that will impact their future. Last can you please tell me what has you so optimistic about this game for the future? Do you honestly believe they will be able to start making a profit on this game with their bad rep and out dated system?

You know, NBA Live had like 3 years to make this game. A new game, new system? It's nba live 08 with slightly better graphics and when's the last time Live produced a quality game? Its not the commentary that makes the game bad, it's the gameplay.

I wasn't happy with some things 2k did this time around but, I am more than satisfied. Online could use some work. As for Live 14, I tried and thought it was terrible. I played it again after the big patch and thought it improved but not enough to keep my attention. Live 10 is more fun to play. 2014 will speak volumes for both games. I'm a sports game fan so I hope that live can produce a better product.

What does 2k have to do with any if this ****. 2k didn't make the Live team not update and go radio silent about ratings. 2k didn't have anything to do with a player being represented completely wrong.

Eventually y'all gonna have to frame your arguments away from what the hell 2k is doing because that's the only defense some people have.

Don't worry about visuals next year it will be covered. I want to know from you who is this "community" you speak of? The Live community is good I can't speak for the ****** gamers,PC, and ppl tired of 2k

You sound very bold about a game that has alot to prove. Don't be like a guy named Dounte who was on the EA forums consistently talking highly about Live 14 until it came out and he has yet to post on that forum since. Lots of people in the Live community were not happy with this comeback from the Live team and the proof is evident. Although the other game's system is outdated as well, they at least do a great job at making their game look and play like basketball visually. You have to realize until Live makes their game do this they will never be respected. I'm not a stan of either title, but I at least respect the other game because they make their game look like basketball and that is why it sells. EA cannot continue playing this hamster wheel if NBA Live is not selling effectively and you know it. If Live 15 does not sell well, then I think they go the NBA Jam or NBA Street route, so they can still keep their NBA license.

Yeah! I think this forum should have a section where we could all have a discussion on what a game does better than the other as long as its respectful. Developers or managers of either title would be able to peak in those threads from time to time to pick are brains and help improve their sports games.
