NBA Live 14 News Post

Brian Mazique of Bleacher Report recently interviewed NBA Live 14 Executive Producer, Sean O'Brien. During the interview, Sean confirmed title update #2 will be released on Tuesday, February 11th. He also revealed a few little nuggets of information on NBA Live 15.

JYoung has transcribed some of the juicy details below.

Quote:
-- The title update will appear on Tuesday, Feburary 11. The three major areas of improvements in the patch are lighting, Shootaround mode, and control/animation responsiveness. Minor changes include bug fixes and the All-Star Weekend court/uniforms.

-- "Player likeness" will not be improved until NBA Live 15 (facial technology, AI behavior, signature animations). This required a "huge overhaul." The team has pushed "as far as they can possibly push" the player likenesses for NBA Live 14.

-- The team is "still not completely happy with all the pass animations," but they will be noticeably improved in the patch. Players' inability to continue their forward momentum while catching fastbreak passes was fixed.

-- Fixing the animations and their lack of responsiveness to user button commands is an "absolute priority."

-- Shootaround mode is "based off the E3 NBA Live 14 demo." The mode was a "big undertaking" and will be expanded on even further in NBA Live 15.

-- The game that the current team inherited (NBA Live 13) "was not a great game." The team simply didn't have enough time to "turn around the Titanic."

-- The halftime show in NBA Live 14 was a "big investment," but the team feels it was worth the effort.

-- The team believed that the "overhead incurred" from creating a more robust created player feature simply wasn't worth the payoff.

-- Utilizing Kinect and the PlayStation 4 camera to improve the game's immersiveness is "absolutely where we need to go."

If someone can post some details on this, I'd appreciate it. Getting ready for a meeting and definitely won't have time to listen to 40 minutes.

Sean O'Brien mentioned the stride that the devs have taken with Player likeness with the skin technology and use NBA lighting for NBA Live 15 will blow you away. They're focused on fixing core gameplay and graphics.

At the 17:00 min mark while talking about passing he mentions you'll see it on Tuesday, which may mean the patch is coming Tuesday. Actually says Tuesday a couple of times after that.

If Live 13 was that bad, why didnt they scrap and just go off of Live 10, or even Elite?

I do like Live 14, but it doesn't sound like we will be getting the multicourt shootaround from PS360 Live games, or EASBA, or any of the other neat features from those games while they build up from Live 13.

Hmm. Taking all this with a grain of salt considering that the dev team is EA Tiburon (Madden devs). Love to be proved wrong but they have an uphill climb on their hands

If I were to assume, the shoot around will get is probably from the NBA Live 13 half court only gym. Just my assumption though, hopefully I'm wrong.

"overhead incurred" could someone kindly explain this to me

Should I understand it as if create a player feature is not coming to NBA Live 15, either? That'd be extremely disappointing.

I believe he was talking about Live 14. Overhead for create a player wasn't worth it for that game

Time to focus on Live15 EA, this is the prime opportunity to kick 2k in the balls . DONT WASTE IT

Like just buying out their competition and then praising their own game as being the "best *insert exclusively licensed sport* game in the world".

Example : Madden 25 is the best football game in the world!... when there are no other football games.
You would think with a coloured name like that, you would be less of a troll. In no way does this have anything to do with exclusivity and you are just trying to get the "anti-EA" conversation going!

And I'm playing P.S.F. 13 on my iPad, and I may be wrong...but it is a football game.

Basically, the team felt that implementing a more robust create a player feature was not worth what it would cost them (time, money).

So are they totally scraping Live 14 and building from scratch?? If Live 13 was garbage and Live 14 is built from that, why would you keep building on that? I'm not trolling, but when they were building all of these games they said they all were great and it was all a lie. This time around for their hype train they should just drop a whole quarter demo at E3 and tell 2K to top that.

Did he ever comment on the decision to not include roster management?

To tell the truth all I'm worried about is their progression for Live 15. Hopefully their budget for Live 15 helps them upgrade this game next year into a true next gen experience, so it can bring excitement back to video game basketball with options. They cannot afford any more missteps. Sean O' Brien you left Canada to move all away down to Orlando,FL to see this franchise go through chaos again?

I thought we were told this game was built from the ground up?

I didn't hear him mention anything about roster management or player editing, nor did he mention more consistent roster updates, were we expecting too much from this title update? :-(

Same here. After the troubles with 2K next gen this year we would hope Live could be serious competition, but their track record hasn't been good for years either. To me there's no shame in copying what 2K has done well and adding your own spin to it.

Yeah, it's all kind've tied together too...

We're at the halfway point in the season and Granger is still starting for the Pacers, (HOPEFULLY Gallanari isn't still starting for Denver, hadn't checked)

While it's fairly easy to adjust lineups before the game manually, the A.I doesn't take into consideration that you've adjusted the lineup and won't sub them back in after subbing them out...

Just very odd not to have roster management in a game in '14.....I'm almost positive they'll include it in next years game though

They were not honest about what engine they were using. Clearly they used things from past Lives like animations, sounds, and commentary. They mainly used from Elite 11 and Live 13. I got a chance to play the full copy of Elite 11 and I have no doubt that animations, sound(rim), and commentary(Breen, Van Gundy) were taken from that game. If they cannot maximize that engine for Live 15 to reach it's full potential then they need to find another engine.
