Kobe Bryant signed a two year deal worth $48.5 million, which means he will remain the highest paid player in the NBA over the next two seasons. One has to figure this is LA's last chance to get in on winning an NBA Championship with Kobe as part of the mix.

Big name free agents are coming onto the market, plus plenty of second tier talent. If you were playing as the Lakers GM, would you go after a superstar like LeBron to join Kobe or would you seek to upgrade the overall talent of the team with smaller signings with the limited cap space you have going into next year?

If LA offers him enough money that the Jazz won't match the offer (which would probably be around the 4-Year, $40M-$50M range), then they can put him at the 3 next to Kobe.

But I hope to God that doesn't happen. I'd rather see a Hayward/Parker or Hayward/Wiggins pairing in Utah.
Lakers won't overpay, especially on a 4 year deal. Thy can't afford to kill any of their flexibility for 2015 or 16 FA. Unless their content to let Kobe finish his career on a low seed playoff team.

They can also use the stretch provision on Nash and pay a third of his salary. They're not that desperate.

If they trade for Lowry, they get his Bird rights.
Also, why can't they trade their pick?

By can't, I assume you just mean can't as in they shouldn't. And they'd take Fields only if they aren't willing to take on some of Nashs salary next year. Cause I'm sure they know it'll be hard to move an almost 10M contract, so taking on a couple million is something they'd need to do.

And they'd trade for Lowry if it means they can resign him. If anything like this were to happen, I'm sure one of the conditions on the deal is that Lakers are able to work out a deal with Lowry before the trade actually happens.

Can't as in you can't trade consecutive draft picks. They've already traded their 2013 and 2015 pick. They're stuck with their pick unless they sell it.

Since when?

Brooklyn doesn't have a first pick from 2014-2018.....

We have our picks. Its just they will be swapped for the Hawks and Celtics (outside of 2016 where they get it outright) picks if they're higher up to 2017
