I love the loose balls from batted passes in the game. Nothing like throwing a pass across the court, or through the lane, to have it batted down from the defense, and not automatically intercepted. Then there's a scramble to get the ball. I've noticed several passes sailing out of bounds in my last 2-3 games as well.

I was browsing NBA Live website and saw this:

"On the other side of the ball a quick tap of the pad calls a 2-3 zone, a 3-2 zone, press or man-to-man defense. Double tapping results in calling the coach’s default defensive scheme, pack the paint, pressure the shooter or focus on and double-team the opposing squad’s best player".

This opens up another level of defensive strategies and schema. Anybody try these? Particularly the open's I have bolded.

Also, for those of you who use the euro step manuevers, someone a while back posted that they wish the "shot" at the end wasn't animation controlled. You CAN manually push the shot button after the euro buttons, and it will give you a different shot. You can also pass out of it. If you only want a 1 step euro then shot, make sure you double tap triangle/Y, then the shot button. I drew a foul on the fast break with Goodwin on the euro step, hit the shot button, and he spun off of the contact into a 360 type fading shot... it was SLICK.

Just wanted to let guys know.

Absolutely man.. Where you been?

Works like a dream. The pack the paint and Star Focus are what I use the most, after setting the individual defensive matchups.

Does it work well for controlling the PIP? One of the reasons I'm not ultra-critical is because I feel I've only scratched the surface of the games capabilities. Interesting...

# 906 WTF @ 12/30/13 02:04 PM
It does help out somewhat. I'm normally at 50% PiP or a little less, which isn't bad. Part of the reason it doesnt' bother me as much, is that a lot of the PiP that I'm seeing right now are quick floaters just inside the paint, or regular jumpers in the paint. I'm not seeing a ton of the spin move, pump fake stuff right now. Not sure if I'm combating it, or if it's improving in that aspect. Yesterday for example, Tony Parker had a ton of PiP against me, but most of them were right around the free throw line. Several layups, etc, but still, not the cheese stuff you saw early on.

I still set my matchups for each individual player, and adjust periodically through the game, but if I see a team is determined to try to continue their assault in the paint, I'll pack the paint. Or if I can't stop someone, I'll go with a Star Focus, and it causes a double to come, or at least shade over towards the guy allowing further help if needed.

I wish the CPU was a little more aggreesive in their help defense...all this beautiful spacing...but not seeing a lot of drive and kick game to show for it...

Saw a lot more loose balls in the paint, due to contact, today.

It was beautiful seeing online players finally pay for spamming and being sloppy in the paint.

Played against the Heat today and it is definitely nice to see them trap my ball handler on pick and rolls.

It doesn't kill P&R but it makes it much harder to complete. On the flip side, get through the trap and you have a lot of daylight.

Really nice risk/reward for that team being shown through this game.

Play the Nuggets. Friggin Ty Lawson and Gallo ran the drive and kick game to perfection all freaking game long on me. Either Javale or the Manimal would come up to the top of the key to set a screen on Ty's man, Gallo would be on the wing, Ty would draw in his defender as I "showed" help, Gallo would fall to the corner, and a perfect dish nearly every time. I rotated too far in this one, but thankfully he missed.

The Nuggets just handed me my first loss of the season, moving to 5-1 as the Suns. I was down 12 with 3 minutes left, and scored several junk buckets at the end, to get back to a respectable loss. My goal was to hold them under 100 points after I knew I was losing, which I did, 97-91. The Nuggets were averaging a league best 121 PPG. Hitting 49% from 3 PT range. I held them to 18% from 3, but they ended up thumping me anyway

Curious to know what their PIP was? If you were able to hold them to such a low 3PT% I would think that the PIP had to go up? True or false?

# 912 WTF @ 12/30/13 04:07 PM
Oh it did. They were around 60 PiP out of their 97 total. It was atrocious. Most of it was freaking Ty Lawson or Nate Robinson shooting floaters, etc. They had a TON of fast break points against me too. I wish this game kept track of fast break points.

Yeah, it's too bad they don't included the fast break points. It's a good barometer of how you did in each category. Sounds like you have a pretty good handle defensively. BTW, the video looks great! It looks like a completely different game from the demo.

NOT Top 10 Nominee.

Gallo gets the facial dunk and then barrels over Arthur. Arthur had a rough game.

I'm seeing a TON of this type of physical contact now. I saw (wish I had captured) one of my guys trip over Javale's feet in the paint and fall face first. It was beautiful.

Games not bad... I just notice that there isn't a whole lot of offensive variety. Blake Griffin did the SAME hop step move in the paint and always pumped and EVERY TIME the AI jumped allowing him to easily put down a two-hander. Also has anyone been able to throw a realistic oop? I threw one once but every other time they end up just catching it or it sails out of bounds.

# 916 jyoung @ 12/30/13 06:13 PM
You want to throw the oop when you see a teammate's hand go up in the air.

That means they're calling for the alley oop.

It is a surprisingly high percentage pass in this game. I would even go so far to say that oops are the safest pass you can make around the basket.

Okay, a couple of things that really destroys the experience for me.

1. The PG in the paint hook shoot.
2. No charge what so ever gets called. 4 charges total, overall since I got the game.
3. The missing contact in the paint, and also all around defense ect.

One thing that I don't understand is why they don't fix these things here and know, just to make it flow smoother. Maybe not the contact in the paint and all around.
But the 1st and 2nd i mention could easily get fixed quick via a in game update.

I'm looking forward to the big patch in early 2014. Hopefully sometime january.

personally, don't think we see one until the all star break. think they will show off the improved version for the fans who are attending the events in new orleans.

I just played my 1st game on pro(haven't played Live in a long while) and got my butt handed to me . It was just an exhibition game Knicks(me) vs Nets on 5 min quarters. Lost 62-35. They shot 60's% and couldn't keep them out of the paint...48 of 62 points were in the paint. Guess I have to start on Rookie .

# 920 WTF @ 12/30/13 10:45 PM
Stick with Pro, and don't worry about the score. Just play to learn the game. Read the defense thread here too. Its a different game than you're used to .
