NBA Live 14 News Post

Press Row Podcast host Rich Grisham checks in today with a hands-on preview of NBA Live 14 for next-gen consoles. Here are a few nuggets from the article:
  • Controls are layered, meaning anyone can pick up and play -- but there's a good bit of depth to be mastered as well.
  • Defensive controls are done mainly via the left stick. The LT puts you in a defensive stance wherever you are at on the floor.
  • Overall the game plays solid, but Rich is hesitant on giving it a ringing endorsement but instead says its a solid foundation for next-gen basketball.
  • There will be a day-one patch.

If reviews of Live 14 come in low, it will be interesting to see how much stomach for the series' future EA is going to have. With Live 14 hitting shelves next Tuesday, there's no wonder people are hesitant about pulling the trigger -- the only hope for the series seeing success commercially will have to be on a very surprising strong critical performance to drive word of mouth sales."

R.I.P NBA Live
Live is flying under the radar, my man. Purposefully I think...

Guarantee that's how it will go for NBA Live on this generation of systems.
I'm fed up with people like you calling it crap without playing the game. Play the demo, then whine all u want

It's the wrong year to fly under the radar, next gen consoles and they choose the silent marketing scheme, is it any wonder the game has little interest

Just don't understand why anyone would buy this game. Maybe if someone HAS to have a basketball game and hold a vendetta against 2K sports or something? Not only inferior graphics and gameplay, but EA has more or less admitted that this is a test run to try and lay a foundation for future iterations. Why anyone would pay $60 for that is beyond me. But to each their own.

So you don't know....cool.

I'll definitely check out the demo. Every game has exploits, especially EA sports games...if you think for some reason Live 14 will be different then you will be disappointed.

I also said sales for this game will be bad, which looks like it will be true when looking at projections. They have to prove something. They are already playing catch up so my statement about them continuing to play catch up is also accurate based on recent history.

So next time you single out my comment, make sure what you're saying about it is true.

I was generalizing. But most people called past Live games crap without even playing them. They do it all over this board. Live 10 is still one of the best bball games I ever played. People have this image of horrible and maybe Elite embedded into their brains when it comes to EA. Yet people forget how good their other sports games historically have been. 2k has one good sports game. EA does soccer, golf, NHL, and used to have a great baseball game too.

Still talking 2K huh? Pretty awesome how you give EA credit for historically good sports games but then say that 2K has one good sports game. I seem to remember 2K having a really good NHL game at one point. A really good college basketball game as well. Oh and a really really really good football game. Yet people come in here tossing around "2K fanboy" with no problem at people bringing up legit concerns with this franchise.

This way, they don't disappoint anyone.

Plus, giving a proper demo, we can all try it ourselves is the best marketing a gamer can get.

I still don't understand how all you 2K fanboys think paying out Live is helping? You should be wanting Live to do well so it pushes 2K to do more than just release a roster update each year.
It's not about being a fanboy (2k or Live) and as a consumer its disappointing to not be hyped for a game release, and when the game flops due to low sales will you still be calling it "in their best interests to do so"? Calling me out as a fanboy of 2K, maybe it is in your best interests to get with the program and play the best game available

if live has competent ai good ball awareness and decent controls i will gladly pick it up over 2k. ai is key for me when it comes to sports games since you can only control one player at a time. if live can do it well then they have a great chance.

i listened to the podcast of the live gameplay and i love the sound of being able to execute a pick and roll properly. that is a major part of the nba and 2k hasnt been able to get it right.

For those of you saying that they're "giving us" a demo, are wrong. PS4 is giving us the demo. A few weeks ago, the Live team was saying "NO DEMO". They were wanting the blind sales.

However, the PS4 gives a 60 minute trial to any digital game that is released, therefore, we get a demo.

It wasn't like Live was saying "Just wait til the demo is released, get your hands on it". They were singing a different tune 3-4 weeks ago. Now that PS4 is forcing their hands on a demo, now you hear them telling you to feel it by downloading the demo.

I'll give the demo a go, but the whole way this has been presented/marketed just reeks.

Im a graphics/realism guy.. I hate constant reminders that im playing a video game..

Even if gameplay is great, I just don't want to play a game on next gen that has current gen graphics..

Just look at it... It doesn't look good..

I never thought 2ks hockey was good. NHL destroyed it every year. Baseball? Haha! Um no. College football back in the day? Terrible. All pro football was OK. I was making it a point that ea makes other sports titles and generally, they're very good franchises. I hope finally Live can be included. Glory days coming back is my hope

Actually 2K's hockey game dominated NHL for a while and forced them to make a better hockey game. It "destroyed" it every year in the same sense that Madden destroys other football games, it sells better because of the name on the box and not the quality inside. Their baseball series was solid before the license. Who brought up college football? The point is you said 2K makes one good sports title trying to limit them to the sports games they currently have while giving EA credit for every good sports title they've ever made. FOH with that. Now let's get back on topic of Live, please.

This confuses me a bit...and hope someome can shed some light on it real quick.

The Devs stated that in "live season" you can replay full games and scenarios. Saying something like if Lebron does a hook shot from 50 ft out and makes it, you will see it in the game that you replay. That will be cool to see, however does that mean NO MATTER what you do you can not stop that scenario from happening? No matter what you do he makes that basket? So if the Heat score 90 points that game..will they always score 90 (no more/no less) no matter how good you play D?

The mode sounds intriguing but not if that is true

where did you get the 50ft hookshot scenario from?

Haha...i made that scenario up. I couldn't remember at the time who was in the video that was suggesting that if it happens in the real game it will happen in the replay. It was actually Kyrie Irving doing a crossover. He goes to his right stops and fades away for a jumper over a Knicks player. It then flashes to him doing it in Nba Live..suggesting if it happened in the real game it will happen in the Live replay as well.

Though...a 50ft hook shot is would be alot cooler than that play. So i chose that

lol interesting. but im 99.9% positive that they arent referring to specific scenarios like someone hitting a half court buzzer beater. rather they are saying that ratings and tendencies will be updated to reflect the real life game. the game itself wont play out exactly the same but you will get to play with those players who will have a similar game to what happened irl. i think the kyrie clip was just to emphasize that the players should play in the game like they did irl.

Ok...thank you. I was hoping that would be the case but was thrown off by that clip
