It’s tough to peg when 2K Sports took off with its NBA 2K franchise. Everyone remembers 2K11 which became an instant classic. It touched on every NBA fan out there by adding historic teams through the ages, and of course the one and only Michael Jordan.

But that wasn’t the NBA 2K game that earned the highest grade from Operation Sports. That title belongs to NBA 2K7, just another title in the series, right? Wrong.

Do you still have this game on your shelf? Read on to find out why you should give it a go again for nostalgia purposes.

This is when 2k introduced signature styles. the most hype I've been on a game by far!

this is still my all time favorite from 2k basketball, I used to use the Hawks online because it was no fun using the really good teams, Zaza would always get schooled by the other teams big down low but it was always fun trying to get Josh Smith on the fast break or kicking it out to Josh Childress who I remember was deadly accurate from beyond the arc lol

Still pop this game in from time to time just to mess around with 24/7 next mode. This game was a huge leap in terms of gameplay and graphics from 2k6.

I mostly play older 2k's every September while waiting for the newest one to come out ...and 2k7 is always my favorite to go back and play...

I remember 2k7.... it's alright, but no full control (Which is making it's return again in next gen, imagine that?) is where these games lose me. I'm sorry I just need it, I think 2k10 is when full control came in, so that would get my vote.

I am still waiting for 2K7.5....all i want is upgrade graphics and cleanup the glitches and this game would have been perfect. All the things they put in since then like physics and animations slow down the game play and it wasn't fun anymore...at least for me. Unfortunately, the producers still head into that same direction due to the success of the game but it wasn't a success for me.

No love for 2K8? That's the first time I really remember being impressed by a next gen sports title in terms of gameplay.

I loved 2K7. But man that game was an ice skating mess. No real momentum at all which detracted from the realism. But the game was ahead of its time for sure. Those graphics were the most 'cartoony' of the series though, IMO.

I agree.

This was the one right here. If you were around here back then you know what hype is. samuel40 ([/hipster]) contributed greatly to that. It was nuts, and it paid off because the game was great.

I still play 2K7 regularly. Just played it 2 days ago, and still love it. Graphics are awesome, and I'm still tweaking sliders/edits for best experience.

2K8 was more realistic and graphics were more real (though not as good as 2K7...yes it's possible to look more real - yet not be as good visually), but there's something that just draws me back to 2K7 after I play 2K8 (play it every now and then).

I'm just curious...what older 2K are you playing right now?...

NBA 2K8 was the game that brought me back to the 2K series

First game I had on 360. Thought it looked amazing and I wasn't even playing in HD at first.

Oh yes, the memories. 2006 was when I got my 360 so this was my first next-gen sports title. I had played a little bit of Live 06 and 2k6 at a friends, but 2k7 had me as hyped as I've ever been for a sports game. And after that game, my expectations for basketball videogames shattered the glass ceiling. I loved 2k8, but it didn't meet the expectations I had after 2k7. In fact, I didn't get near that same level of satisfaction until 2k11.

But regardless, we've come along way. I know we're never satisfied in this forum but the ground we've covered from 2k7 to 2k14 is substantial. Especially in comparison to other sports games over this generation. You don't hear anyone saying "I kept my xbox just so I could play NBA 2k5" or even "2k hasn't made a good game since NBA 2k7." I hope it continues through the next generation of consoles. Questionable marketing tactics or not, they've earned the benefit of my doubt for the next couple of years.

Yep, it's up there for me too. I had very limited means to get a next-gen console back then but I stretched things out and found a way just because NBA 2K7 and its signature styles blew my mind. Sig styles was a positively groundbreaking feature. It changed everything. I used to sit in the college library and look up videos of custom shots for all the different players (T.Prince, S.Nash, etc.). Great, great stuff.

In contrast, I haven't really seen anything on the next generation that's given me that feeling yet.

I bought 2K7 the same day PS3 was released.

Talk about impressed.

I remember doing a dunk with J-Rich against my cousin and we both looked at each other like:

Yep, both NBA2k8 and CH2k8 are still my favorite basketball games. Probably the 2 most complete games still to this day when it comes to dynasty and Association modes, without being a glitch fest like 2k's games have been the last few years. I would still play CH2k8 to this day if I had a xbox. I had to buy a PS3 because of being a baseball fan for MLBTS, and I bought CH2k8 for it, but the PS3 copy of CH2k8 was a joke, it constantly froze and just had to many issues, but the xbox version of CH2k8 was great, along with NBA2k8.

2k8 would be my favorite if it weren't for the super long animations...and the fact you couldn't sub in your bench in practice mode...this wouldn't be a big deal but this was back when know signature shot release points was a MUST...so you had to practice....
