NBA 2K14 News Post

NBA 2K14 on next-gen consoles.

As much good as we have heard today from the folks at 2K Sports, and there has been a lot of that, we just got word that there will not be any offline multi-team control options in MyGM which is replacing Association mode. There was some hinting it could come back in future editions, but for this year's title don't expect to be able to play with more than one team in offline MyGM mode.

Also Aaron is reporting that there are some features which are in current gen NBA 2K14 which won't be making it over, but no word on what those are from the folks at 2K.

UPDATE: Erick Boenish, AKA SimBaller had this to say...

For those curious about MyGM mode, know this. I only covered about 5% of what this mode is at the press event. This was a bigger media event, one where a large number of the attendees aren't exactly highly interested in the meat and potatoes of a mode like this. I simply provided an overview of what our philosophy was.

We'll be going into MUCH more detail (you know I will take care of you guys here) on what we've done in the coming weeks, so stay tuned.

The takeaway you should have right now is MyGM is Association on steroids. Multi-user had to take a backseat for a minute while we rebuilt the entire foundation of how a franchise mode works. I assure you, this is all for the greater good. Leftos and I will make sure you're all happy at the end of the day.

SimBaller

P.S. For those who aren't into the concept of interacting with staff, players, etc., a Season mode (with variable season lengths) IS available so you can just focus on playing games and moving players around where you see fit.

What do you think of no multi-team control offline in 2K14 next-gen?

As long as they have Association and MyCareer mode in Next-Gen, I'd still get it.

I only ever play as one team but I think it sucks when devs take away options from players and I really feel for the people that this effects. I think players should be given every option possible to tailor the game to their liking so they can enjoy the game the way they want to play it. I hope that this (along with other things that were left out) is re-introduced next year and that this was only done because of time constraints this year.

I would be really disappointed if this was the way I played the game, I had been anticipating the game on next-gen and then this news came out. Sorry bros.

No chance I'll be picking up the NG version now. I'll stick with the CG this year.

Lack of 30 Team control doesn't bother me. I never had the patience to manage the entire league by myself. Hopefully this means much improved CPU logic when it comes to rotations, signings and trades.

# 106 Insight23 @ 10/24/13 10:51 AM
I usually play with one team and make trades for other teams. You don't have to control all 30 teams to make trades for other teams tho rotations can still be off like this.

Any discussion about whether 2kshare is in the next gen version? I want to make sure I can get my draft classes from the awesome folks that create them.

When I play with my Sixers I can draft a next gen Andrew Wiggins!!! #WinLessforWiggins

Will we be able to customize the league to put classic teams into the association? Can we turn cpu trades off and can we force trades?

I'm sorry but that's a huge dealbreaker. I don't care who says otherwise but let's get serious. It is.

Why do I want my game to mirror the exact way the real NBA is? If I wanted that, there would be no need for buying this game. This goes for all the sports. NFL, NBA, MLB, WWE etc. What if I want Tom Brady to leave the Patriots and be the QB for the Dolphins? What if I want the Big Three in Miami broken up and LBJ goes back to Cleveland? I don't want the champions on TV in WWE to be the champions in my WWE game. It's my video game, therefore it should be MY WORLD as I play. Did you all forget how not being able to control multiple teams in Madden was a big deal until Madden 12? Exactly. Gamers shouldn't have their choices restricted in games

Sports games have a bad history of not having trade logic and roster management by the CPU. Even if it is improved and fine tuned, who cares? I want to be able to play "mad scientist" any time I want to. It's my game and I should have that right. How could anyone be against this or defend 2K or any other company that limits choice and free reign in a game? So we're giving companies our money for a game and we let them dictate to us how we play it? Where they do that at?!!! :-)

This is just another way to promote using myPlayer/myCareer. Whatever it's called. I don't play that mode so I think it's a waste of time creating something when I can just use a current GM. Other than that, I can't wait for this game and PS4. November 15th!

# 111 cthurt @ 10/24/13 11:28 AM
At this point I just hope they have an on/off feature for things like cpu trades, or an on and off feature for editing players during the mygm mode. just in case there new logic still isnt where we want it to be we can have an option to do something about it.

I just want to know if custom rosters can be used. If not that is abhorrent.

I'll have to see what Live and the Live GM mode is like. As has been mentioned previously there has been too many flaws with the A.I GM's which is why I love controlling as many teams as I like (usually 12 or 14) and then I'll play with a team from each conference. Anyways its not quite a dealbreaker, if I end up getting an xbox one I'll probably buy both 2k and Live. It just means that if Microsoft and 2k want my ca$h this year they'd better hope NBA Live has what I want or my $750 will be going towards a sorely needed new pair of studio moniters.

All I play is offline association so I'm curious. I also like using classic teams in association.

I still can't believe this is real. It's not game breaking nor will it stop me from getting my Basketball Jones on for this year. But it will effect my experience a great deal. I'll dread the stupid AI moves, rotations and signings.

I like to keep my Association realistic and I'm afraid this is taking that away from me. Here's hoping there is a work around and 30 team control comes back for 2K15 as a "new addition".

I'm a 2k guy but this is why we need competition. If the other guy has this and showed something great I would have no doubt in my mind that Association/GM mode would be able to have a 30 team control scheme next year.

Noone is dismissing your logic issues but give them a chance and stop worrying. Play the game first ...at least. Stop assuming all the issues will automatically be inherited
Same was said about Madden's connected garbage mode. Took all of the options away and made consumers play it their way. People said give it a chance, it's all new. The outcome was an even buggier mode filled with bugs and unbelievable nonsense that could not be fixed without having 32 team control. They added it back this year, but the mode still seems awful from reading the forums.

This dev team is better, but there have been outstanding association issues spoken about at length. Years on end, and the same flaws continue. I will not believe they are fixed until I see it in game. If they aren't fixed, then the mode so many of us love is flawed without help. I don't even have time to do all of the work involved, but I know once I see nonsense, it turns me off to playing the game. So I would rather have the option to do the work, then to not have the option at all.

Leftos, I respect your work and donated to you after you made the great PC editor. I am glad you are doing well and a big part of the team. You are an amazing talent, and knowing you are working on association/my gm stuff makes me feel good.

That being said, it sucks when options are taken away, and gamers are forced to play a certain way. I didn't like when EA did it, and now do not like that 2K has done it. I know you understand that, and hope the association issues of the past have really been worked on. Please work on adding the control back next year.

Also if we can't play other games, that would be another terrible decision by 2K. Is that accurate, or still waiting to be confirmed?

2k starting to take that saints row approach. Went from a straight up hood, gang video game to "aliens every where!" I believe 2k is making a big mistake, and no daczar "it's not a wrap" I'm disappointed with this.

# 118 cthurt @ 10/24/13 12:40 PM
All I know is, if I see good point guards like Jrue Holiday getting signed to the Cavs to back up Kyrie Irving after the first season and I cant do anything to correct the situation I will be done with this mode. I believe this is still an issue in 2k14 on current gen.

# 119 The 24th Letter @ 10/24/13 12:40 PM
Things like controlling 30 teams in Association don't interest me in the slightest, but I did like to play a standard Season mode...I hope the choices and all that stuff isn't to cumbersome to deal with (or hopefully there is an option to turn it off) because even when I did do an association all that stuff was set to auto...

I am very interested in MyCAREER though...it has yet to keep my interest for a long time CG...Having to deal with some of the stuff they described is just as authentic as having "Summer League" and "D-League" to me...and a bit more enjoyable to me...I can't tell you how many MyPlayers died before take off because the ho hum summer circuit...

Either way, ready to hear more info!!

I am a little frustrated about the changes as others have pointed out. However, I am still going to buy the game and try the new GM mode. The problem for many of us that play association for a realistic experience, have the control taken away much like Madden did last year until they brought it back this year. Customization is very important because these games are not perfect. What happens if I am playing my Association with the regular NBA season and there is a major injury or a trade involving a team that I cannot control? What happens if I need to edit a players number or accessories outside of my team? These are just a couple of examples and that will kill the immersion of this mode. I am hopeful that the other benefits of the mode will shine through as I will still play it but taking away customized options like this will hurt sales and Madden has been witness to this.
