NCAA Football 14 News Post

Losing NCAA Football hurts, but that loss can be mitigated by an excellent Madden.

There is no need to start this off with a lie.

The end of the NCAA Football franchise hurts.

People continually blasted the game with criticism after criticism, but negatives tend to speak louder than positives, especially in our genre. Most people weren’t fooled though: we were playing a pretty good college football game every year.

Instead of having the ability to transition into the next generation of consoles, NCAA Football has to hang up the cleats. At this point, there is some serious concern as to if there will ever be another college football game on the market again.

The lawyers would love it too. Another opportunity to sue.

Well if it was as generic as the high school teams in RTG, the lawyers couldn't touch it.

kehlis let me know that this thread is already open, so I will past my thread here as my reply:

So now that there won't be a new NCCA game..

... can we get the NCAA team to incorporate a lot of what made that game different and fun into Madden?

- Some NFL teams have mascots, but there aren't any in Madden.

- The HFA [Home Field Advantage] feature was nice, and could be turned off for those who don't like it. Not every team in the NCAA game had HFA effects, and neither would every NFL team, however, the Chiefs and Seahawks come to mind right away. In NCAA, if youlooked at the coach cam [to see the play art] the routes would wiggle and some would have a question mark above them and not show you the route. Also, I think you couldn't hot route those players either. There were also animations for your team mates not being able to hear you and false stats were more common. The visual effects of a shaky camera pre-snap and everything was really nice. You could also take the crowd out of the game by playing well and racking up points, but in a close game and big situations like 3rd down, it got more intense. Watching the my 49ers fall apart in Seattle last year and earlier this makes this ever more apparent how nice it would be to have in Madden.

- Mass substitutions. This is good for blow outs. You want to bench all of your starters with the push of a button and not having to do each player individually.

- How NCAA handles the no-huddle/hurry up offense. How the Broncos and Pats play football.Well, maybe not the pats so much this year, but over the last two years for sure. In fact, it was big deal in NCAA 11 that teams play more and more like themselves.

I am sure there are more things I am forgetting, but the excuse in the past for Madden not getting these updates/improvements was because they wanted to he two games to feel a bit different, and that some of the stuff in NCAA isn't as common in the NFL. Well, no more excuses EA. You are only making one football game for now on. Let's go!

To be fair, that is what DPP and player traits are for. For example, in NCAA you set defenders to be aggressive/balanced/conservative in going for interceptions or swats. In Madden 12, 13, and 25, each individual player has the "Goes for the ball in the air" trait set to one of those three.

I still get the impression that Donny forgot that player traits are even in the game. For example, Navarro Bowman has had 1 star consistency since Madden 12. What's up with that? He should be 5 like Willis. In fact, when I go back and chek players from Madden 12's default roster update and Madden 25's most recent update, most if not all the players have the same player traits from when they were assigned the first time around.

It is funny in a sad way that Donny and Josh Looman talked about how that would make Donny's life easier and make ratign players even more accurate. They said they could give Tim Tebow 88+ deep throwing accuracy but only 1 star of consistency. The consistency train is supposed to have a big impact on franchise/CCM. It is supposed to determine under the hood the chances that each individual player will play up to his true ratings, or below them. The point is that on his best day, Tebow will have 88 or better deep accuracy, but with one star, his best day won't come that often. However, Peyton Manning has 5 starts and brings his A game week in and week out. I don' know what Tony Romo has in Madden, but let's say he is a 3 star. Some times he is good. Sometimes he isn't.

DPP and Player traits were a really good idea on paper that hasn't been touched much since Madden 12 as far as I can tell, which is sad... and typical of EA.

Don't know if it is really stealing an idea but I would like to see EA allow us to continue to use NCAA draft classes from NCAA 14 in future additions of Madden.

I don't see why they wouldn't write in that code so we can use NCAA 14 to create draft classes in the future.

Amazing idea and very simple to execute. Combine that with a call-up system in case you release players or lose some to IR and we could be looking at a nice touch to the overall game. Would be equally awesome if your assigned practice squad players also end up being on the "scout team" during weekly practice mode and gain XP based on how they practice against your first team. Seems like it wouldn't be too hard to implement.
