NBA 2K14 News Post

When it comes to the NBA, no matter where you look, LeBron James is there.

NBA 2K14 will feature a new 'Path to Greatness Mode' which will allow players to decide the future of LeBron James' career. The mode is a storyline driven mode, meaning you will be playing out the future of LeBron James' career on the hardwood in some fashion.

You will be able to choose from two very different paths in the future for James. You will play into the future by completing both full and partial games, needing to complete each game to progress onwards -- not unlike a traditional single player experience.

The two paths you can choose from include 'Continue Heat Dynasty' and 'Fantastic Journey', both of which with vastly different outcomes. The former sounds as it is and is likely the simpler of the two, 'Fantastic Journey' involves Lebron taking his talents to New York with the Knicks after this season.

You won't be playing full seasons in the mode though, as some of the paths you can take might have you playing only a couple of key games per season. However, there are interesting scenarios and storylines which might play out, as players move from team to team in the futuristic version of the NBA.

The one catch? It's exclusive only to PS3 and XBox 360. Which answers the question on whether NBA 2K14 will be fully featured on next-gen consoles as well it appears. Sources: Polygon, GamesRadar

I love 2k doing this stuff, just like the Jordan Challenge, legends, and the Wrestlemania story. It adds so much to the Single player experience. Truly a remarkable feat for sports games. Something like this would definitely liven up Madden. Funny is that they had a legends mode in NFL2K5 too.

Yeah. Until I hear it from Ronnie2k, I'm taking any reports of "current gen only" with a grain of salt. It makes little sense to invest all the money and time in creating the assets for the mode and then not put in the relatively simple scripting to bring it to next gen as well.

That said, I don't think "Path to Greatness" is going to move many copies of the game. If it really isn't in next gen, that's kind of stupid on 2k's part, but it's not a mode most consumers were clamoring for.

This is weak...So you either stay with the Heat or go to the Knicks??? HOw lame is that I wanted to put Lebron on the Bulls or anyother team I choose since its a "FANTASY" story smh bring on the next gen info please im completely done with current gen news.

Well, there goes any chance at an 07' Pistons classic team.

I don't care about playing as LeBron, i want to know about MyCareer, it's all I play and the lack of news is worrying me.

Gametrailers has some video showing him with Kyrie on the Cavs as well as some Knicks gameplay. I don't know whether the Knicks part is scripted or if you get to choose where he goes or if it is randomized.

As I said in my article on Polygon, I didn't want to spoil every turn in the scripted mode, because that's exactly what it is — scripted.

Spoiler

There's no randomization, and there's no choice on your part as to where LeBron goes. You're just following Visual Concepts' story.

I saw the Clippers on there too...what's that about?

2k lost me with this mode. Essentially it sounds like a more restricted Create A Legend mode from previous games. This will probably not see much burn at all from me.

They should've just done a jordan challenge type mode. LeBron has had so many great moments in his career. Imagine reliving his 48 point game where he scored 29 of his team's last 30 points in 2007 against the Pistons...or his 45 point game facing elimination against the Celtics.

As it is now, this mode likely won't be much different than just placing LeBron on the Knicks roster and doing a quick game...

I mean it sounds well done and would be awesome for a LeBron fan. The thing is I'm not, so.....

I'm being honest. I don't care for this mode at all.....now the Jordan challenge from 2k11 was the big cheese ! Still play it once and while to this very day, almost 3 years later.

I'd much would've rather of had a Lebron type "Jordan challenge" than this.

That sounds good...they could've even of had the "no headband lebron game" from this years finals.

My assumption that it was essentially going to be a LBJ MyPlayer or another MJ Greatest Moments mode was actually what turned me off about the mode....

This sounds interesting and fun to play

There are some interesting tidbits about the Lebron mode that could have implications for My Career.

With the focus on developing a realistic(ish) NBA years in the future, one would hope that they have improved the rookie and developmental logic for both Association and My Player. I always stop those modes in year 2 or 3 because, after that, the league fills up with rookies and sophomores with 80ish rankings, and the games just become silly.

Of course, if the rosters in the mode are heavily scripted, then none of that applies.

This is essentially an LBJ My Player mode, though it's pretty clear it won't be as repetitive...at least they made storylines for each game. Regardless, once it comes down to it....this is a LeBron My Player/Creating a Legend.

So is going to Manage Rosters and switching players around= My Team?

Think yall are reaching with that whole idea...we can essentially say this about any mode if we try hard enough....

Is The Association just season mode with some player roles etc.?

One you choose the path that takes him to the knicks it is not his last stop. There are a number of moves that happen on that path and one of them is Cleveland.

Exactly what I would have done. Very surprising they didnt give us multiple options for teams. They should have atleast allowed the option to choose the knicks, LA, or Cleveland (3 possible destinations for lbj next year)

I wouldn't put Lebron backseat to the other brands cover athlete. Thus why the knicks or whomever else for that matter
