NBA 2K14 News Post

When it comes to the NBA, no matter where you look, LeBron James is there.

NBA 2K14 will feature a new 'Path to Greatness Mode' which will allow players to decide the future of LeBron James' career. The mode is a storyline driven mode, meaning you will be playing out the future of LeBron James' career on the hardwood in some fashion.

You will be able to choose from two very different paths in the future for James. You will play into the future by completing both full and partial games, needing to complete each game to progress onwards -- not unlike a traditional single player experience.

The two paths you can choose from include 'Continue Heat Dynasty' and 'Fantastic Journey', both of which with vastly different outcomes. The former sounds as it is and is likely the simpler of the two, 'Fantastic Journey' involves Lebron taking his talents to New York with the Knicks after this season.

You won't be playing full seasons in the mode though, as some of the paths you can take might have you playing only a couple of key games per season. However, there are interesting scenarios and storylines which might play out, as players move from team to team in the futuristic version of the NBA.

The one catch? It's exclusive only to PS3 and XBox 360. Which answers the question on whether NBA 2K14 will be fully featured on next-gen consoles as well it appears. Sources: Polygon, GamesRadar

I love how people dis a mode so hard that they haven't tried. Give it a chance guys! I play alot of Association, myCareer, some myTeam but I think these single player modes are pretty fun. The Jordan Challenge was cool, this could be fun too. It would be cool to see how they rebuild the Heat after Bosh goes to the Mavs. Or trying to play with LeBron coming off the bench in Cleveland with an 80 rating.

Everyone is crushing this game but let's recap.

They've added a cool single player mode,
Crew mode,
Tightened up myTeam so you can play against your friends, tournaments
Improved the gameplay
Added the ProStick which is a huge improvement to 2k13 (I miss the shot stick)

Sounds good to me. Thanks 2K.

I think they are on to something with the whole "King John" thing, what a neat idea, making storylines, sounds like fun

Man, if I didnt have a lifetime ban on embracing anything Lebron James related, seems like Id enjoy it. I will however, never play this mode. Will be cool though in 2-3 years when Paul George gets his own Path to Greatness and is the cover athlete.

Looks not as bad as I thought. I'm not a Lebron guy but if one of the options after year 1 is to take him to the Lakers and try to win one for the Kobe that would interest me as a Laker fan I suppose.

I see they are making this mode all fun and cheese though...no realism, at least not in the Knick fantasy path. Howard and CP3 on the Knicks? Hmm, no.

I wonder what the Laker option will be, Lebron, Kobe and Melo lol

I would hate for LeBron to come to LA. So glad it's looking like its not going to happen IRL.

The knicks are 20 million over the cap. In 14-15 they will be 22 million over the cap. Most of their contracts don't come off the books until 2015. So did Lebron take the vets minimum?

So people are complaining about a mode they're not interested in playing? Ok... Then just don't play it, no need to whine about it.

I doubt i will play this mode much but it seems kind of fun, especially with the storylines. Will make for some interesting games and matchups.

People compare if to to Create a Legend? Looks like you will be able to control all five players though so it's nothing like CAL. CAL didn't have storylines either.

Faried would likely be earning 10 mil+. I would consider him the 4th member of a big 4. Maybe they are just going for fantasy, because it is impossible fo the Knicks to afford James in 2014 unleess he signed a vets minimum or mini MLE.

In the future superstars put their egos aside and realize money isn't everything so they take paycuts in order to play with other superstars.

I've kind of stayed out of the topics on this new mode, but I think it's fair for folks to voice their displeasure with additions to the game they feel are not in their best interests and are not consistent with what they wish to see out of a basketball simulation.

For instance, there's some people who are looking for a more realistic Association mode from the formerly referenced #1 Basketball Simulation. It's probably a little disheartening on some level to see the time and effort spent instead on a mode that is essentially a completely fictionalized storyline made up from scratch with just the slightest of realistic bases.

And to be honest, as often as 2K seems to reference listening to their fans and following what people want, I'm guessing there's also a little bit of a feeling that those who do not favor certain directions of this game recently (virtual currency push, super fantasy) feel it's necessary to voice their displeasure in hopes of not being pushed completely to the wayside.

I admit with certain features I don't like, I think, "Well, I don't really care for that so I probably just won't share. But if I don't say anything... and noone else says anything, is it going to be interpreted that we all love the direction they're going?"

Dont see how its possible for the knicks to get cp3 and d12 when they just signed new long term deals this summer but w.e.

This new "fantasy" buzzword this year is making me chuckle a little...

This is a basketball video game. People have been creating their own player and running with them for years...and this is something that "sim and non sim" have enjoyed for years.

If you're content with Quick Game and Association being the only game options and want to express that, that's cool...but there is a better way to do it...

Nobody's going in your association threads saying that it doesn't matter...lol

# 39 Goffs @ 09/14/13 10:40 AM
Is this really an issue about the Knicks having DHoward and CP3? It's some fantasy team that 2k devs chose....how is this an issue?

Starting at 1:30 the guy even explains that the devs thought it would make an interesting scenario. Holy crap I can't believe how OC some of you guys are....

Still would've loved if PTG had stuff from the past to this future, cause if LeBron retired today, he would still would've been known as one of the Greats. Path is usually something to build and work for. This is more like "LeBron: Path to Greatest." Difference with "Greatest" is this is trying to get him as the greatest of all time, rather than "Greatness," which he already/
