NBA 2K14 News Post

Thanks to @DmanUnt2014 for the video footage and @IpodKingCarter for the images captured for details of the new NBA 2K14 Signature Skills listed below.

Chris Manning (@LD2K) also mentioned that the developers went in and tinkered with all of the original Signature Skills from last year, as they rebalanced and made sure they were more polished.

UPDATE: Just added all of the new NBA 2K14 Signature Skills screenshots, thanks to @LD2K.
  • LeBron Coast to Coast (Available for pre-orders)

Takes the ball coast to coast and finishes through contact. Speed, Quickness and Ball-Handling attributes are boosted 4 points and the shot penalty enforced for hitting a defender is decreased when taking the ball coast to coast on a fastbreak following a change of possession.

  • One Man Fastbreak

A player known for his ability to take the ball coast to coast on a fastbreak. Speed, Quickness and Ball-Handling attributes are boosted 6 points if this player takes the ball from one end of the court to another on a fastbreak following a change of possession.

  • Pick Dodger

A player that does not get caught up on screens very easily. He counters the Brick Wall Signature Skill, and when hitting a screen set by a regular player, the screen often fails to be effective.

  • Tenacious Rebounder

This player is known for his relentlessness when going for rebounds. During rebound situations, he receives up to a 50% increase in winning boxout battles and poking balls loose on rebounds.

  • Flashy Passer

This player is known for accurate flashy passes. When throwing a flashy pass, the penalty enforced will be reduced by up to 60%.

  • Screen Outlet

A player who excels as the receiver in the pick & roll / pop game. If this player shoots immediately following a screen he set, he receives up to a 4 point boost to his shooting attribute.

  • Pick & Roll Maestro

A ball-handler who excels at orchestrating the pick & roll. As the point man in a pick & roll, immediately following a screen this player receives a 3 point boost to his shooting attribute and is more accurate than most when passing to the screener.

I will wait until I play to see which ones start to get unrealistic. As long as I can block players or body up players more realistically I will be ok. The Eraser and block ratings will mean a little more this year.

The real issue is making the defensive sig skills work. With all these offensive sig skills. Things like charge card and active hands have to be tuned to be useful. I don't think I got a charge card or active hands sig to trigger one time in 2k13.

I don't think it's cheesy but it looks like One Man Fastbreak is better because you get a 6 point boost instead of 4. If you combine Highlight Reel or something with One Man Fastbreak, you might get the same effect.

Why are all these attention spans so short?

Exactly how many fastbreak oppurtunities did you guys see in those gameplays (in all the 2k14 footage to date)?
thats because they dont cheese.... you know once the game is out people will find ways to exploit it

I had a player that had charge card and could never draw an offensive foul (actually no one could). I hope 2k14 is different

Updated OP w/ all of the new Signature Skills, thanks to LD2K.

Doesn't Lockdown Defender negate offensive sig skills anyway? Wanna stop the One Man Fast Break, counter with Iggy.

In concept and theory signature skills are awesome. They tweaked some of the existing ones and added others to increase their depth. All of that is good.

The implementation is what I am concerned about. 2k13 had given them out to way too many people. Many of these sig skills should have a limit of 4 or 5 players max having them.

Two examples; one from 2k and one from the featured skills of 2k14. First, take flashy passes. I bet you that there will be 10-15 guards which will have this. In my mind only the passers on the level of Magic Johnson should have it. In today's NBA I'm not sure if any rise to this level; maybe Rubio but even he is iffy in my judgement as a candidate for this extremely powerful skill.

Second - the floor general skill. There are a lot of good guards in the NBA who direct their team, yet there are very few (Nash and Paul) that stand out at a level above the others.

I really hope their use is limited so that those that have the skills are really deserving of them.

I love all of these additions conceptually. As long as they work. I never felt like k love or faired were more effective rebounders than any other of on the game. Hopefully that sig skill actually brings these guys to life. Pick dodger is alo welcomed because brick wall had no counter last year. As far as the one man break and coast to past, I feel lie that eisted last year even if there was no name for it. When bron or Westbrook or magic got a rebound it would iniate a fast break animation that required you to get busy with that turbo button if u wanted a chance to stop them. IRL he Miami heat win most of their games by destroying the transition gme so that should be simulated in 2k. But when a team like the spurs can get Miami into a half court game they have a chance to beat them. As long as poppovich doesn't bench his 7 for hall of famer!,, grrrrr I digress. But looking forward to 2k14

I always felt the sigs were already in the game too and now we just know what they are. I did underestimate the impact of the signature skills on the game this year so I think the fast break one will be enhanced in some way. So it's either that they are enhanced or since they are identified more people know how to take advantage of it.

Yup your right coach but I think it has helped the casual player be able to understand the intricate strategies involved in basketball. And for the hoop heads like u and me it gives us the chance to really bring te pacers and clippers to life lol

Euro-step rebounds anyone?

# 38 knick9 @ 08/30/13 09:33 PM
I'm happy they kept most of them the same because I've gotten really used to using them. The Lebron and fastbreak skills add a little more cheese but considering the defense will be improved and you'll have the ability to block dunks, it evens it out for me. Also, I'm a pick & roll, catch & shoot, player so it's cool my style will get a boost as well.

As a counter to all these fastbreaking sigs, I'd like to see a 'Transition D' sig. The defender will turbo back on D and make the smartest decision possible to stop the break; bumping the driver at the right time, anticipating possible passing lanes, etc. His quickness, speed, and on ball D get a boost during the sequence as well.

Adding signature skills isn't the answer.
