NBA 2K14 Features Crew Mode - 3-on-3 or 5-on-5

The achievement list teased the announcement earlier, but 2K Sports has now confirmed NBA 2K14 will feature Crew Mode. As Shade8780 points out, it looks like it could be current-gen only, at the very least we won't know about its status on next-gen just yet.

Wow. That actually makes 2K look quite bad.

Essentially it sounds like 2K wanted them to shill the "return" of "Crew", which was just 3v3 Blacktop with stamina. Then they hastily hacked in 5v5 after Shake and Kspade wouldn't play ball.

Props to those couple of guys, but that doesn't give me a feeling of confidence or trust regarding what 2K was trying to pull on us this year at all.

Now it makes COMPLETE sense why "Crew" was shown running on a small screen in the background while a YouTuber talked it up in the foreground. They didn't really want to show it because they knew it would demo badly and what they had didn't look like Crew at all.

A week of coded hype for this? Yikes.

My theory is this:

2K didn't want to invest too much effort on current-gen 2K14, but wanted to retain its sales numbers since current gen consoles still have a massive install base, and current gen 2K14 will still make up a mass majority of their projected sales.

A full featured Crew would take too much resources from their other next-gen SKU, but a leaderboards Blacktop mode renamed "Crew" would be a huge marketing bullet point for the end-of-life platform, since it's one of the most requested features and they thought they could pass it off as Crew-lite with some minor tweaks. Enlist some Youtube A-listers and the rest is history.

Call me cynical, but this does feel a bit like a cynical money grab.

I look at 2k14 CREW mode as Kwame Brown... Hyped it all up with the #3R335 hashtag, we all thought it would be great (like Kwame Brown being #1 pick) & all we are getting is a bust.... Atleast for now

I'm sure others in here have said this but I will say it myself...

With them only focusing on current gen in all of their announcements I think it is becoming a pretty safe guess that the next gen version of 2K14 will be a bare bones/stripped down port

Screenshots/Videos released to date - Current Gen only

Other than saying there will be PS4/X1 versions they haven't mentioned anything about the next gen releases

Didn't watch the video yet.Looks interesting but you know what,the guys that have the most respect(shake and kspade),actually looked puzzled even in that 2k video.

The thing about this years' Blacktop 3v3 mode, is that there's NO FOULS...

So if Crew's not in an arena does that mean no fouls are gonna be called?

It's like taking away Coke for a year, then bringing it back but it's really just Diet with the original logo on it...don't screw this up again 2K, please.

I think 2K's gonna pull some all star crew DLC where you get the arena and jersey customization if you preorder the game or come out with dlc you have to pay for.

If a multi-million dollar corporation has their feelings hurt by disgruntled customers on a message board and refuse to accommodate their consumers, then perhaps that multi-million dollar corporation shouldn't be in business. Not a crew guy, but people have a right to to voice their concerns, and how you feel about that is irrelevant. If 2K doesn't want any complaints, then either stop making the title or release your product for free. No? They want people to shell out $60 for their product? Then deal with everything that comes with it. Criticism, skepticism, or praise alike.

It was 3 on 3 when they were there and I was sticking up for the community guys! I don't think it takes months to add 2 more players to a game that already supports 5 on 5 in other modes. But what does a clueless guy like me know anyway ?

No Xbox One version of the mode 2k? LD? really? say it ain't so and that it'll be added later as DLC or something....SOMEthing.

I would say good to see it back but...I'm not sure it is in the sense that it's like the way crew was originally.

what they showed wasn't crew. I can do all that now in 2k12 except for leaderboard, which who gives a ****. 2k11 crew was the best if you had a great crew who knew how to play and not just play hero ball. When you played another crew that had the same mentality, it made for the best online experience hands down. Nothing to this day(video game wise) has ever match the fun I had when I played nba 2k crew games. here is a video I made of my crew
