NCAA Football 14 News Post

This is a guest post from forum user JLoco11. Be sure to check him out on his arena page here on OS.

I did quite a bit of testing this weekend with recruiting and the skill tree to get an idea of how things will work when I do my normal dynasty (after the rosters are completed). I simmed multiple first seasons of dynasty with different level teams, progression rates and recruiting methods and gained a decent amount of knowledge in doing so.

Here’s a very early guide for those interested in some recruiting tips. As your skill tree changes, so will your need to choose different recruiting tactics.

I also am very appreciative to see this guide before picking the game up. Albeit I'm a little bit scared now too haha.

These tips and stuff make recruiting seem to difficult but I feel like playing as Michigan it won't be as hard as everyone is saying. Now my EMU dynasty may be difficult like they are saying in these. Hope I am right and that I don't struggle recruiting as Michigan.

Big programs have better advantages. I simmed a Michigan/Ohio State dynasty recruiting against each other.

Michigan has a pretty good default recruiting tree. Ohio State had a better recruiting tree, and they both walked away with most of the north's top prospects. Couldn't really get into Texas, Florida or Cali with either though. Mostly took Ohio and PA recruits.

Yes, 24 prospects is still the maximum.

"If you promise someone they will be a first round draft pick, that becomes something they will hold you to. So be honest in your assessments of their talent."

If you promise someone they will go in the first round and they instead go in the 7th round, what happens exactly? Is there a coach integrity rating that is affected?

It goes as a broken promise... similar to prior years if you break a promise made to a recruit.

It will affect Coach Prestige. 1 broken promise won't knock you down in rating, but if you start accumulating them, they will.

The game doesn't measure how off your promise is either. If you promise 1st round, and they go in the 2nd or 7th (or undrafted) it still counts as 1 broken promise. No difference in how off your assessment is

Great write up. Loving the recruiting this year. It's deeper than I think a lot of people realized yet streamlined really well.

Nicely done! I only played a few games this morning before work, and have several recruits visiting tonight when I get home. Unfortunately I have 3 QBs coming, but I guess I'll just need a big game and learn my lesson for next year.

How are you doing this? I can't seem to figure it out.

Here are the things I have found so far with recruiting while playing as EMU.

1) It isn't as hard as everyone has made it sound. As EMU I have some 3 star recruits who I am leading on getting so far and up by over 1,000 points 4 games into the season.

2) There still aren't enough FB's.

3) It's so much more realistic than in previous years.

4) It is more fun this way than before.

5) The tips in the guide are certainly helpful.

Thanks for the guide, nicely done! I'm a little perplexed by some of the reviews (okay, mostly IGN) that seem to treat this like a minor "paint job" update on a mode that was already there. This seems to me to be a significant overhaul, and it comes in the same year we get a physics overhaul that noticeably changes running and tackling. This is a 7.4....how? Reviewers seem to go into autopilot mode when they sense a new console generation is coming out.

I did always feel like both visits and scholarships were badly undervalued in the old recruiting. Glad to see that was addressed - this sounds like it could be markedly better.

I like the fact I can offer everyone a scholarship and of the guys who accept I can choose not to sign them.
