NCAA Football 14 News Post

The final version of NCAA Football before the next generation of consoles arrive has hit the (virtual) marketplace. EA has packed the latest iteration of its college football simulation about as full as you can, but does that mean it’s the best so far of this generation?

This year fans of the NCAA Football series finally get their first taste of EA's new football physics engine, Infinity Engine 2.

EA claims that now speed, momentum, mass, and more are all taken into account when determining the outcome of any collision. EA has also added in a brand new recruiting system, a revamped dynasty mode, and for the first time in the NCAA series, Ultimate Team is making its debut into the franchise.

All of the improvements and additions do translate into what is probably the most authentic college football experience ever on a console, but that doesn't mean NCAA Football 14 is perfect.

Thats not saying much considering its been the only CFB game out... People really must not have experienced anything better in terms of just gaming to make such a statement.. Go play other sports games and see how far behind this dev team is in almost every area... Its disheartening

Is there still coach mode in this game?

Get custom sounds ready. as usual, No presentation. Same generic fight songs since ncaa 2002. No really, they haven't changed. No life on sidelines. Maybe they will fix this in next generation. Review seems a bit generous. I'm passing

I'm just going off the demo, and if the game is anything like the demo, I'll be playing CF for awhile, at least for me. Never played a demo this long for either EA football game.

For me, there were game play issues for 2k13 that took a long time to over come.

We'll see.

Really enjoyed the demo - learning curve with running the option is pretty steep but I enjoyed it since I'm usually more of a Pro style offense (usually USC's play book over the years) and I liked focusing on something different.

Some friends and I do an Online Dynasty with teams rated 75 or lower and 2-star prestige or lower. May choose someone different based on what I've seen in the demo - played with UTEP in 2013.

i was all ready to make my return to college football after a 2 year hiatus. wasnt thrilled with the demo but thought it would be better in the real game. bought the season ticket and downloaded. this by the end of the first ranked match i had enough of the read option. this game blows and i feel stupid for ever giving it a chance.

-defense is non existant
-option is over powered
-players dont feel right
-players are too slow.
-out routes and comebacks can become unstoppable
-zone is broken
-man gets beat too easily

well looks like back to madden.....maybe. will definitely switch my paid off pre order to something else.

dont fall for the hype and excitement of a new game.

Number scores kind of vary in odd ways from year to year on most review sites.

For example, OS gave 2013 a 7/10 which was actually the lowest score OS has ever given a main console release of NCAA football since the 2003 version(which was the earliest version I saw a score displayed for).NCAA 2013 was the only primary version OS didn't give an 8+ number score.

Now 2013 wasn't a great football game, but I certainly don't think it was anywhere near as bad of an update as some of those past versions were.

Honestly, I think OS's number scores tend to be a little too high in my opinion, but I do think the actual written part is done pretty well and gives a good representation of the good and poor parts of the game.

This game is fun. All due respect to the Moody's, SimStandard's, Apex's, etc. We appreciate your constructive advice and it has been a catalyst for better gameplay. This football game is happening! I've been a huge critic in the past and have been playing video football since the Atari days. I am loving this year's game.

Good review and I agree with the score. There are some lingering issues that I won't harp on but the game is fun.
Can't wait to see how Next Gen pans out for NCAA.
Hopefully the base line starts a bit better.

Not a fan of the review, there were too many 'I think' and 'It seems like' for my liking.

It happens every year I don't know why everyone get's so worked up when it's been like this for ages.

Excellent review as I completely agree with everything that was touched on.

Played two games late last night with my Fighting Irish and started to become bored very quickly. Did not like the halftime commentary as it was a complete joke. One more year.............some slight tweaks........just can't justify buying it this time around until it hits the bargin bin.

this is exactly what i thought it should have gotten... love this website and an exaclt review.. unlike gamespots review on youtube.. which was terrible... i really enjoy dynasty a lot more this year and love the RPG element of the skill tree.. is really awesome..

i also like how its tougher this year it seems.. and it's not so easy to get a coaching job somewhere good right off the bat if you start off at a bottom school..

Gameplay appears to be tweaked to where gamers should be content with it. However, the continued lack of presentation and making the sidelines filled with bustling life, is still omitted. I can't believe the 360 and PS3 can't handle more. Anyone who struggles with the poor presentation, it can be enhanced with custom stadium sounds. Download a ton of chants/songs/, burn them to your consoles and give the game more life. Authentic fight songs are huge in making the game more lively, especially for an NCAA game. It's a problem that has plagued most EA games. But custom soundtracks can give it a boost. I think I'm going to buy this year. When this comes out for PS4 and XBOX1 next year, EA will have no excuses. I want a lively sideline and real looking people in the stands. Then we can really talk about presenation on how it SHOULD have been.

Great job, I was on the fence but your review has made it a day one purchase for me!

Glad that EA fixed the bugs in the Infinity Engine from Madden and incorporated it into NCAA this year. Have been a huge fan of the NCAA football series, but was a little disappointed in last year's version. Would love to see the Road To Glory feature an entire high school game where you can choose between multiple players on your school. Any of them could be a Div 1 prospect. Also, where's the Army H.S. game that features the nation's top recruits and talent? Add that feature in for the Next-Gen console or for NCAA'15 (360/PS3) and that would be great. Lastly, definitely update the commentary. Nothing against Kirk Herbstreit, but throw in Brent Musberger for the title game.

OK, I downloaded the demo for Xbox and still no broadcast camera angle. Deleted.
