NCAA Football 14 News Post

EA Sports has posted NCAA Football 14 playbook #5, which details the new Season Mode.

If you aren't into commitments and recruiting, this mode might be for you. It's basically a slimmed down 1 year dynasty. Once completed, you can start a new season with another team.

Also seriously, if you have grievances with other parts of the game being low effort go complain about them in their threads. This thread is about season mode which they appear to have pulled off just how people that will want to play it would have liked them to.

I mean if someone who is supposed to be professional is talking like this is an open forum then no wonder we are getting the quality of game we are.

And about as much effort as ea uses to create their games?

Don't take up for them. They won't ever get better if they don't get honest criticism. There is no excuse for what they have givin us this gen. When you look at the other sports games.
You are skating on thin ice right now. It is against the TOS to insult anyone including developers/community managers/etc.

Calling EA and their developers lazy is criticism, but its certainly not constructive criticism. Maybe if there was more of that, their games wouldn't be "crap."

We just updated the TOS so you might want to check it out. http://www.operationsports.com/forum...17-2013-a.html

I suggest you quit while you are ahead.

you used semantics to take a shot at EA and the dev.

That's not helping improve the game quality, or the community in general, in fact what you did is counter productive.

Oh, and they know exactly what we want because we tell them here all the time. And they still don't do it. I don't see how we could give them anymore constructive criticism then we have been doing for years. We're fed up.
On this site calling devs lazy is just as bad as calling them a fat ***. And no matter what you believe about EA football, you must follow the TOS when expressing it. If you choose to abide by your own rules then you will have a short stay here.

This isn't an argument. So its time to move on.

A lot of folks just grab the game to pass time until Madden; this is a reasonable solution for them. Play a season and trade it in towards Madden. Not my cup of tea, but it's a nice feature for a certain percentage of people. It's pretty irresponsible to jump to conclusions without having any glimpse into the dev cycle, or even playing NCAA14 yet.

I didn't expect to see such an uproar over Season Mode when I looked at this thread.... Woah.

This is exactly right. There is no reason to bash EA for this. Its not taking anything else away from the game. I mean come on!

Some people would bitch if you hanged them with a new rope.

Like I've said in the past. EA deserves a ton of the criticism they get, but I swear they could make the greatest game in the history of making games, and the same guys would find reasons to complain non-stop.

EA gives us a mode that people like myself will actually take advantage of, and they get called lazy for it? Really? And that's supposed to be what helps the community or EA to make better games? I don't get that logic.

Well it was really only one guy after the initial 'so it's dynasty without recruiting?' (Which was my initial reaction too) died down.

It's a niche mode. I'll probably mess around with it during the actual football season for my 'play along' season for the reasons I mentioned earlier. It'll definitely keep some people that get intimidated by dynasty in the game longer.

My dad for example has been playing NCAA 2010 (I think is the version) since it came out, and he just plays a season, deletes the save, plays another one, etc. The fact that the game won't ask him to do all the other stuff and will be faster in loading will probably make him actually buy a new one this year.

Of course he'll have to find new money plays against the CPU haha.

It's in the game.

I believe devs want to do more, but are held to certain constraints by the big wigs/suits. KingD did have a point, regardless of the feature/addition nobody wants to read "took very little effort" especially if the feature is seen to said person as mundane. In their minds that very little effort could have been placed elsewhere.

I'm jealous of guys who wanted this feature and received it. While small things that I believe take little effort didn't make the cut. I guess it's kind of like Mascot games, yes I think it's totally useless and has no place on Saturdays, but it took "very little effort" and is something that could be touted.

I wonder if they streamlined Road to Glory as well?

And how long are these load times? Haven't played Dynasty since 2012

I really like the addition, it all had to do with psychology. If I start a dynasty with a team and just play a season I feel like I'm 'missing out' on a lot of the dynasty stuff, and there's no sense of completion when the season is over. With season mode I won't get those feelings. Do I know that's all in my head? Yep. Do I care? Nope. Good addition.
Exactly :-)
This was an "easy win". I think there are going to be some people who are going to like this mode, just because it's a quick and easy experience. The main thing though is that it was simple enough to put in *without* taking any significant effort away from the areas where we really wanted to spend a lot of time improving Dynasty. If we had had to cut anything from the full-featured Dynasty to get this in, we wouldn't have done it.

This might have been covered in the OP but I'm being lazy right now. If you do a season mode, then decide at the end of the season that you really liked the experience and want to continue playing with that program, can you transition to dynasty mode?

I have always thought that dynasty was a bit of a niche mode. I know it is the is the norm here on OS. But It would be interesting to know how many really play dynasty to its fullest, and actually complete multiple seasons. Seems like more work than the average gamer is willing to invest.

If it is indeed quicker to play out a season, it could be a useful tool for testing slider sets for a dynasty. I'm not shocked that they included this in the game, but I can't believe they used an entire playbook on it. Weird.

I was really hoping that this feature would let us play seasons from ago. It would be really cool to play the 2005 season again with the players and teams of those years for example. Maybe that's just me.

Highly highly doubtful. All the recruiting stuff wasn't done during the season along progression, etc.

I would buy an extra game, let alone DLC, that let us do that. I already make classic teams sometimes for single games.

I'm actually old enough to remember when "Season Mode" by itself was a new feature in sports games. I was like, woah... You can play through a season... Awesome.

I had more hair back then too, and less back pain.

I'm very excited about this mode should be a great addition. I've always enjoyed trying to recreate what is really happening and this should make it easier.

I never thought about mimicking reality with this mode. Good idea!
