Great Article!

Import? Absolutely
Tony Bruno? Yes! I'd rather have Sportscenter but imo radio format blows twitter out of the water!!
Fair Play? I play offline most of the time
Vision Cone? Yes! loved it.
Owner mode? Yes!

Thanks OS

Last gens franchise mode was great.

M12's franchise mode was almost a return to glory.

2K5 presentation coupled with Madden 2007's franchise mode would have been the perfect marriage.

May I ask why?

Because if you played against people who did all out blitz's or nano blitz, you had no chance to get the ball to a open receiver because you had to move that stupid cone to find a open receiver.
That's why you read the blitz at the line and make a change, no different than in real life.

Maaan it still amazes me how much stuff they have added and then taken out for no apparent reason.

My list would be:
- The option of turning on the weapons feature from 08
- Full editing of players and teams
- The option to create a player and his attributes or put him through the drills to establish his overall rating
-The option of the QB cone
- Helmets flying off of players
- Traditional franchise (I hated CCM with a passion)
- Mini camp games
- Legendary teams
- More customization for players ( i remember when you used to be able to edit their faces and change the sizes of their limbs, also there used to be more accessories)

Furthermore what I hope they add that is new: Proper line interaction and blocking AI along with D line stunts and gaps. It's unbelievable that a game in 2012 didn't have d line stunts when they are fundamental to football and ALl pro football 2k8 had it! Pretty much just copy the trenches from APF and this game would be leaps and bounds better.

P.s why isn't there things like collars, bulges, neck roles or washboards in this game? I think they added one ugly white one last year but cmon that was only one.

they need to bring back playmaker mode where you could tell free running blockers to engage someone. the blocking logic now is bad so why not be able to show them who to block on the run

Of course most Madden players didn't like the vision cone. It forced you to really play QB. It made players that only throw screens and crossing routes very limited. You actually had to use the passing windows that most users don't have to use without it.

The vision cone was the best thing to happen to Madden because it separated those who truly understand the game of football and people who use the same BS that ruins Madden online.

Most of my choices have already been listed, but...

Skill games/Training camp
In game saves
Classic Teams/All Madden teams
Cutaways to other highlights.....old feature, they used to show last minute FG's etc.

I'd like to see player morale because it brought a more interesting aspect to how you would handle players during the season and off-season.I'd also like to go back to a one year feature in Madden '94 where they would cut into your game with a game winning fieldgoal attempt from another game.
You only pick plays that you only have to make two reads. SMDH. This is what I'm talking about. You shouldn't be able to be in a game of Madden only having the ability to make two reads. This statement says everything about what is wrong with Madden.

Don't tell me. Your two reads were a crossing route. a slant or a hook. That's shameful.

I played Madden 06 in pro leagues. That's why I loved the vision cone. You wouldn't have scored.

If you don't have the ability or the knowledge to read the field like a real NFL QB. Not some college QB who's only asked to read one side of the field. You should get punished for not having the skills.

You sir are the typical Madden user which ruins the game online.

SMDH.

Great thread with a great list of features/options that would be nice to see added back into Madden. Personally, I could live without the QB vision cone, but just about everything else would be great to see back in the game.

To add to the list, I believe at one time you could name captains. And I believe Madden 07 had a vast aray of player roles that gave small boosts to certain attributes. If memory serves me, players could have roles change too. Thought that was a cool feature.

Owner Mode sounds AMAZING. EA better bring it back!

Wrong - the worst thing to happen to Madden was 3D grass - it effectively ended "signature animations" - the "graphics over substance" mindset of this gen was horrible - the vision cone was actually a feature that forced you to read defenses, allowed you to look off safties and it just added to the "strategy/chess match" aspect, which is sorely missing now because the pass rush is non-existent, the zone defense is horrid, and I miss the cone of realism...

Now, for the actual top 5;

5. Edit player - including Hgt/wgt/body type/position/number/ and
celebrations you can "map" to each button for 1st down/TD/sack/
big hit/FF/INT - after each event listed you should have a second
to press any button and have the celebration you "mapped" there
play out (no on screen cues)

4. Import draft classes with editor for imported and Madden "generated"
classes

3. Custom sub packages - global and formation specific (allowed for 2nd
and 3rd team packages and you knew what each was cuz you
made them...

2. Custom playbooks with play editor (even if limited to every assignment
that EA has in the game - I am ok with no custom routes - but
bring back delayed blitzes and let us pick what routes or
assignments each play has in it

1. PS2 control layout - more intuitive and by far more realistic as it
"forced" the user to let go of "sprint" to perform "footwork" moves
outside of very slight directional changes - "cut moves"
And yes I would keep "hurdle" on Y and triangle and have "cover
ball" accomplished by holding both triggers (stiff-arm) at the same
time - I would have had moves (all of them) like passing is now as
in "type" determined by user input and these new "modified" moves
would have been accomplished by holding the button and then
releasing - rating level (ACC,AGI) would determine how quickly you
could perform "consecutive" moves and rating level for each move
would determine the "window length" of how long you could hold
down each button before releasing (thus performing more effective
moves) but it would come with some risk - holding down the button
would cause player to "gather" his feet, holding too long for the
player's rating would result in loss of balance/slip/trip/fall/fumble
/injury

Honorable mention for me (#6) would be the vision cone.

Also a Quick hold of (I believe) Left trigger and the WR icon would put the cone right on that receiver at the snap to counter a quick blitz. Basically setting your hot receiver for when D blitzes.
Anyways I wouldn't mind to see more options than the outdated Hit X for X system we still have.

Like what? I don't get where this is coming from and how anyone proposes having a passing system for football where you are not throwing to a receiver, or his route - When do QBs blindly throw to a "spot" on the field??? You may think that, when some nimrod receiver runs the wrong route - but the QB actually throws the pass, in anticipation of where the receiver is going to be, not just some arbitrary spot on the field - making the pass game truly "route based" meaning the throw can not re-route a receiver who is not looking at the ball would be the way to go, IMO...

Madden 2005 was awesome.

# 57 Skyboxer @ 05/16/13 12:58 AM
If/when we can actually control where we throw the ball, will also automatically add in realistic over/under throws. Not to mention a WR with an option route that reacted to a DB and ran a hook but we didn't read it the same and threw the original call, a fly...adds a lot to the passing game.

We never see realistic underthrows, overthrows because the ball and WR are joined together in the programming IMO.

X for X is tired, old and outdated for 2014. Just give us some options.

yup!! they need to to implement a total control passing scheme using the both sticks/controls. They have it in games have it for basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, tennis etc. Its about time EA football implements this.

on a side note, Back breaker had some great features. I wonder if they will be releasing a game on the new consoles. Backbreaker just needed a better camera angles and presentation.

Just to clarify.. I'm not saying take away X-X system.
I simply want a new refreshing passing system as an option to use.

I still love Fevers system and with a few tweaks it could have been a great one.
