Very cool. I was rather disappointed for the most part with this years candidates. Except for Cutch. He really earned it.

What do you have against McCutchen not to like him as the cover athlete?

I'm against mcCutchen because he didn't lead his team to the playoffs. Didn't have superb numbers like Cabrera (although still solid). Sure he played well but it wasn't enough to bring his team to .500.

Yay! Nice to see an athlete from a small-market club be on the cover for a change.

To be in the vote, not to be on the cover.

In McCutchen's defense, can one man carry a whole team? McCutchen doesn't pitch, coach, etc. Look at Cabrera. Look at the protection he has in the lineup. Look at who he has pitching in his defense. I'm not saying Cabrera isn't good, but the Tigers have PURCHASED a team that SHOULD make the Playoffs. The Pirates aren't even in comparison with the Tigers but yet they were at one point 16 games over .500. I applaud McCutchen for what he was able to accomplish and where he has taken the Pirates thus far. It's only a matter of time

I'm very happy to see 'Cutch get the cover.

When is the last time the Pirates had something this prominent for the ballclub and while they all seem like good guys, McCutchen just seems like the guy who would live next door to you and he'd throw the ball around with the kids in the neighborhood.
now I'm gettin' sappy...

Thank you Knight.

Just some food for thought for those of you who are saying McCutchen wasn't good enough or his numbers weren't good enough or he didn't get the Pirates to the playoffs. For how long did McCutchen carry the team? For how long was McCutchen close to being a Triple Crown candidate? 162 games is a VERY long, tiring season. When you try to lean on one man for that long, you can only expect failure

IMO anyone who thinks Cutch is not worthy of the cover, either deosnt know Cutch, or doesnt know baseball.
There are many many HOF players who were on crappy teams that never made it to the WS. I can name about 6 Cubs off the bat! Just because your team sucks doesnt mean you do. And just because he hasnt won the TC or MVP doesnt mean hes not a good player. He is a great player and deserves the recognition. Many of the people who vote for such awards are biased against small market teams or teams that dont win.

Cutch is a winner hands down!
He has only played 4 years. He is a 2 time AS, 1 GG, 1 SS. He was 4th for 2009 ROY, and 3rd for 2012 MVP. The dude is no slouch and will just continue to get better and better.

The franchise player for my fantasy team and one of my favorite players in real life.

Good for him. If you don't like the cover athlete who cares? That's why you get a custom cover. Cutch was more than deserving even though I wish Miggy would of won.

Besides Fielder and Hunter, who have they purchased? They have developed or traded for every significant contributor on their team but those two guys. They are far from a "purchased" team.

I absolutely HATE when people say they "purchased" their team. Newsflash: EVERY TEAM PURCHASES THEIR TEAM. Guess what? Whether you're the Royals or the Yankees, you PAY EVERY SINGLE PLAYER. So I guess when you're on the Rays they don't pay their players because they are a small market team? I guess Evan Longoria is playing for free, or did you miss him signing a 100 million dollar extension?

Every team plays their players, signs free-agents, therefore PURCHASED their teams. It pisses me off beyond belief when people say this ignorant comment.
