2K Sports today announced that the Company has reached an agreement with Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association, and Major League Baseball Advanced Media to release Major League Baseball 2K13, the next iteration of the popular MLB 2K franchise. MLB 2K13 will be available on March 5, 2013,for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PlayStation3 computer entertainment system.

"We`d like to thank our league partners for their support in helping us reach an agreement to bring back MLB 2K," said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. "We know fans are extremely passionate about the MLB 2K series and the Perfect Game Challenge."

David Price, ace pitcher for the Tampa Bay Rays, has been selected as the cover athlete for MLB 2K13. Price was recently named the American League Cy Young Award winner after posting a 20-5 record and league-best 2.56 ERA. Price edged out MLB 2K12 cover athlete Justin Verlander for the honors, and is the third consecutive reigning Cy Young Award winner to grace the cover of an MLB 2K game.

"It`s a dream come true to appear on the cover of MLB 2K13," concluded Price, who helped lead the Rays to their fourth 90-win season in the last five years. "I`m looking forward to working with the 2K Sports team again, and welcoming another skilled gamer into `The Perfect Club.`"

The Perfect Game Challenge*, 2K Sports` groundbreaking $1 million competition, will also be returning for a fourth consecutive year and introduce a new contest format with exciting ways to win. Since 2010, 2K Sports has awarded $3 million in prize money to players exhibiting the highest caliber of skill in throwing a perfect game in MLB 2K. Last year`s Perfect Game Challenge achieved record participation numbers, with nearly 1 million attempts made and more than 1,000 perfect games registered. The contest was won by 21-year-old Christopher Gilmore, who prevailed in an eight-person tournament at the MLB FanCave in New York City. Complete details of this year`s contest will be announced at a later date.

Developed by Visual Concepts, a 2K Sports studio, MLB2K13 is not yet rated by the ESRB and will be available on March 5, 2013 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system.

Cool. I wonder how much it will be improved over 2k12, but it's good to hear they're making it.

No PC version? WTF.

I'll consider this, but under no circumstances will I allow myself to abandon my 2k12 pc franchise until it proves playable. I did that with 2k12 and 2k11 and I've regretted it since.

What, what whaaaat!?

I love capitalism. Almost as much as I love baseball!

Well I hope they come strong and not just snap a new picture on MLB 2k12

Wow, wasn't expecting this. Great news. Will be interested to see how much work was done.

may make the switch if they can produce a true online franchise

I'm assuming it will be nothing more than 2k12 with an updated roster at this point.

WOW, very shocked. Great News those, I can't imagine this just being a roster update, this has been on the D-Low all this time, I'm sure 2k has been working on the game and its not only going to be a roster update.

As a huger baseball fan, I guess now I can start using the 360 again for gaming.

So I really hope they work on those and any other issues, but there are things I love in the 2k series where MLB the SHOW lacks for me. So it's just great too have a choice.
I am not expecting a lot, but the colors should be fixed. Programming ball trajectories/physics, player reactions and the like are complex. Updating colors should not be.

Hopefully they don't add any new hokey features or try to revolutionize anything. I think they are on the right track, and if they stick to tweaking/enhancing what they currently have, it will only get better.

Wow...competition is good for the consumer but I'm skeptical just how much better this game will be than 2k12...I'm a Show guy but nonetheless this is great news...

I'm shocked but I'm not happy about the news, sure it's good to have a choice but I'd like a game on par with the Show, and the 2k series has showed us it's way behind and cannot compete unless the series is rebuilt from scratch. Besides, I wonder how much development time has been spent for this installment, guess it won't be much different from 2k12.

Wouldn't count on it. They've been fairly off for years now. Don't see that changing suddenly (though if they magically do, I won't complain).

Anyway, good news. Hopefully it finds its way onto PC as well.

Me too.
What I'm praying for is that they were developing it all along in hopes that they could arrange for a more financially viable agreement with MLB and if they did, they'd release 2K13.

Adfletch1971 hit the nail on the head with things I'd like to see fixed.
If they can upgrade on those issues, I'll be in Heaven.

In the current era of sports video games, "Rebuilding" means a year of bare bones features, and buggy gameplay that takes at least 2 to 3 years to iron out.

I understand there is another baseball game with a devout following, but some of us actually like the 2K game. I would be happy with some incremental improvements, and maybe a pricing stategy similar to what 2K did back in 2004?

Does anyone else feel like March is the worst time to release a baseball game. The weather is getting nicer, girls are wearing less and we're expected to delve into the rigors of a baseball video game?

nope baseball cater's to us working/family oriented men that enjoy taking in a ball game with their son/daughter.
