NBA 2K13 News Post


The NBA 2K13 patch has arrived for PS3 and 360. The details on the patch haven't been released yet, but we'll update this post as soon as they are available.

UPDATE: NBA 2K13 Patch Details

GAMEPLAY
  • Improved AI rebounding logic to balance out offensive rebound frequency.
  • Tuned AI transition defense; users will now have more fast break opportunities against the CPU. Additionally, CPU teammates are now more able to guard their opponents on the break.
  • Long range passes are now less accurate and will result in more fumbled and missed catches.
  • Passing successfully out of a double team has been tuned to be slightly more difficult.
  • Tuned the logic behind Charging calls so that they are properly called. Charges will now sometimes be called when the defender is in position and stationary, even if he is not in the “Take Charge” animation.
  • Tuned timing on block animations, and made the AI more vigilant about blocking layups and dunks.
  • Improved reach-in foul detection when defender continually swipes at the ball, results in more called fouls where appropriate.
  • AI now only calls for a full court press in appropriate situations (i.e. late in the game).
  • Addressed two dunk animations that were not counting for a score when they were converted.
  • Fixed an issue where Replay would show the incorrect play, rather than what actually happened on the court.
  • AI positioning when running plays has been tuned so that big men with limited shooting range will not move further away from the basket than what their range allows.
  • AI teammates will now remain in the Post Up position longer when a Quick Post play is called for them.
  • Tuned alley-oop and putback dunks such that only players who have a high tendency to perform either move are able to finish with one.
  • Removed the restrictions for the ‘Microwave’ Signature Skill such that it now works regardless of whether you are already on a hot or cold streak.
  • When a block is recorded for a player with the ‘Eraser’ Signature Skill, only the shooting attributes of the blocked player are lowered.
  • Fixed a rare issue where a traveling violation would be called on a pass fake.
  • Referee Review on last shot will no longer play if the shot has no effect on the outcome of the game.
  • A number of other smaller changes have been made to address issues and enhance the user experience.
  • Tuned three-point percentage.
GENERAL
  • NIKEiD shoes will now appear properly in-game after being equipped to a player.
  • Addressed an issue where the game score would disappear in Blacktop games when Signature Highlights were viewed in the pause menu.
  • Fixed an issue where Free Throw Feedback would no longer appear in games after playing an Online MyTEAM game.
  • Addressed an issue in Online MyTEAM games where the away team player would have the Signature Skills of the home team player if identical players were used in the game by both players.
  • Music will no longer be disabled and Game Settings will no longer revert back to Default when completing an online game in MyTEAM.
  • Changed the difficulty settings for all of the seeds in MyTEAM.
  • (360) Addressed a Kinect issue where a misleading overlay would appear when a timeout was called through a voice command when no timeouts were remaining.
MyCAREER
  • Added additional warning re: conversion of an online MyCAREER (one that earns VC) to an offline MyCAREER (one that earns Skill Points).
  • Fixed an issue where the remainder of the user’s schedule would appear empty after participating in the various All-Star Weekend events. This change also carries over to Association/Season modes.
  • ‘Run Plays’ and ‘PlayVision’ should now function properly (when activated), regardless of your MyPLAYER’s position.
  • Fixed an issue where all games in October would be simulated when ‘Play Next Game’ is selected after the start of a new season.
  • Users playing MyCAREERs that accrue Skill Points will no longer find themselves with negative skill points after played games (where a number of unlikely conditions were all met).
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur if the “Defend Your Home Court” billboard commercial would play between quarters of the Rising Stars Challenge or All-Star game.
  • Addressed a number of issues with the Social Media feature, including one where the news feed would stop updating completely.
  • When changing teams via free agency in the offseason, your MyPLAYER will now receive the proper role (starter, sixth man, etc.) that was promised during the contract negotiation.
  • You will no longer fail the Dynamic Goal “Give your team the lead before the game ends” when subbed out before the end of the game.
  • The Teammate Chemistry rating on the “Play Next Game” loading screen should now display the correct value (as seen in the Social Media menu).
  • The volume of the menu music and sound effects will no longer become extremely quiet after playing consecutive games in MyCAREER.
ASSOCIATION
  • 3PT Tendency progression logic has been rewritten to correctly model the growth variances within each player type in the game. This change also carries over to MyCAREER mode.
  • Users will no longer lose their Scouting Reports after viewing the Recent Games tab of a player card.
  • Birth years can now be set to later than 1993 when editing Draft Classes after the first season of Association.
  • Addressed a rare hang that would occur when attempting to participate in the Dunk Contest with a created player assigned to a created team.
  • (Association: Online) Offense and Defense options should now save properly when using the Total Sim Control feature.
  • (Association: Online) Admins will now have access to appropriate Commissioner Tools during the offseason.
NOTE: All patch fixes will work in your existing game mode saves (MyCAREER, Association, etc.).

Absolutely...that amongst a ton of other things. This game is going on the shelf. I miss competition in the industry. These are things that would be properly addressed if there was a threat. I'm level 20 frustrated with the cheap AI in this game. The crazy offensive rebounds, players not even making a move for the ball, the weak contact layups, the ridiculous and predictable runs and the newest thing with the players just dropping the ball when you are passing it to them. Absolutely unbelievable that was missed during testing.

While that may be true the problem is your teammates now get the cheap reach in calls and you can't control that.

Yeah, the ball is sliding out of players hands, I even seen one go through a players head. I am also noticing a lot of user players tipping the ball up for no reason instead of catching the rebound.

Not only that the turbo delay is back or seems worse now. A few days after the patch it was better and now players are taking 3-5 steps before the attempt to run.

Everybody bye now should know My Player is a totally broken mode, from putting you in at the wrong position to your teammates not rebounding to name just a couple. There is just so much wrong with that mode I really can't see why people still play it. That was a mode I loved when it first came out but with all that's wrong with it I can't play it, I'm back to franchise and I'm loving it, offensive rebounds isn't a problem, CPU reaching no problems, and fast breaks no problem. Sorry guys but franchise is the way to go!!!

Game against the AI is great post patch for me. Not perfect by any means but, very good.
Reading impressions and new threads around here, I literally have to ask myself if I'm playing the same game as some on these boards.

But that's the new OS. Every 'issue' a game has nowadays makes it unplayable or broken.
Fortunately I'm still able to enjoy the game vs. the AI post patch, much more than the last couple of years, even with it's 'issues'.

The problems with this year's game are well documented but I think overall, the Devs did a really good job with 2k13.

Different modes bring different problems. That's why it seems as if you are playing a different game. But one bug that seems constant is the players dropping the pass for no reason and offensive rebounding until the team scores. I was using OKC and gave up 4 straight offensive rebounds with perfect box out positions. He kicked it out every time and shot a 3 until he hit. Thats why people feel the game is scripted to a certain extent. Sometime I only have time for a quick online match. I should be able to pick up the game and play a fair game of bball. Not something this frustrating. When I do have time to play OS friends, it is an entirely different experience. Unfortunately for me I have a very busy schedule.

Part of the issues that those that (like me) are enjoying the game, don't post here much, so the negative posts gain more traction.

The reach in calls and the offensive rebounding are my number 1 and 2 problems i mean it's ridiculous if you reach 1 time its a foul i could record and show it and i just got outrebounded offensively 21 to 2 2k has to fix this i mean its like they don't even care and the patch just made everything worse

If "they don't even care", why would they go through the time and expense to even make a patch? It's like a child throwing a temper tantrum - all reason goes out of the window. Not trying to call you a child - I'm just reminded of it with that statement. I have not seen one foul call after only 1 reach attempt. Yes, I get them if I've reached a few times with one player, swap to another and immediately start to smash the steal button on the next guy. Yep - that brings a whistle. And that's good. Learn WHEN to steal and don't spam the button and you will not have an issue. It's that simple.

we are having problems with the online association we finished the online association and they are not letting us advance the off season we cant force the the advance is there anything we can do to get our off season going?

Hey guys, do I need Xbox Live Gold to download this patch? I can't really tell if mine D/L'ed or not, I don't really recall seeing the Title Update but I did get a bunch of roster/different updates. Is there any test to make sure I got it? I have Xbox Live, just not Gold.

You don't need xbox live gold, anyone who is connected to the internet can download the patches.

Gold has several "advantages" but mainly it's used to play online. They won't deny the people without that. So you're good to go.

I have yet to see a dunk get blocked! Big time blockers should be able to meet Dunkers at the top for blocks or potential jump balls if they land on the ground at the same time! Fix that.

Adjust flashy pass sliders on fast breaks and 2 on 1

everytime I try to access my all star doc from my career or the main menu, game freezes... after the first patch.

Playing on a PS3, setting screens in my career will stop a play. Any news on if this will get addressed in a future update. Amazing how flawed this game is. Who voted this game a rating above 5. It's astonishing!

Inside the paint off-ball trying to defend bigs, there is almost no body contact at all so people can easily get right under the basket.

The off-ball bumping/bouncing animations are so annoying when you run into someone. On defense when this bumping animation happens it wont let you jump/move at all.

On-ball defense there isn't enough body contact and ball handlers can simply slide off your defenders body or just keep trying to ram their way into the paint with little consequences, such as lossing the ball or picking up their dribble more. I would like to see the on-ball defense attribute raised like it was in 2k11.

Dunks and on some layups there should be some contact/collision animations with the defender, with the possibility of being able to block some dunks without your hand morphing through the ball. On-ball defenders on dunks and some layups shouldn't be simply getting moved/pushed out of the way so easily. I don't expect this to be addressed however untill 2k14 probably, since they need to work alot more on their contact/collision physics system and add more animations.
In addition to this:

On-ball Defense - trying to play against another person the player stances/movement on defense often feels sluggish/unresponsive trying to move back and forth or around the court. It feels almost like your being held back at times trying to move in certain directions, its very frustrating when your trying to keep up with the ball handler and they change directions alot. In 2k11, the player movement was always very quick and responsive which I liked.

Pass/Catch System - is probably the worst its ever been. I often play team-up with friends and its amazing just how poorly players are at catching the ball cleanly without bobbling, fumbling, or doing some weird catch animation. I often see poor pass placement in traffic inside the paint - such as bounce passes that lead to turnovers/kicked balls when a overhead pass would of made more sense. Also sometimes on passes the ball is thrown off the closest defenders body such as their back/head instead of the ball being simply passed around them.

Ball Awareness - players still seem too unaware of loose balls at times. With balls going off players heads or body and being loose and not being able to simply grab/pick up the ball quickly enough.

Rebounding - there are too many tipped rebounds. You can have your man boxed out and have great position for the rebound and jump for the ball and tip it sometimes 2-3 times and still not be able to grab the ball at all.

These are the things that frustrate me the most in 2k13.
