Madden NFL 13 News Post

Everyone plays Madden differently. Some people enjoy a good ground game, others like to air-it-out. Others (and you know who you are) run around with a QB like RGIII or Michael Vick and you chuck it long at much and as often as possible.

I still have nightmares of Michael Vick led Atlanta Falcons offenses from the 'Golden Age' of Madden on the PS2.

As for me, I enjoy running a very West Coast style of offense -- with a conservative passing game while relying upon the run to grind a game out as much as possible. I value a QB with a good short and medium passing game moreso than a QB who has the arm to really stretch a defense. I'm definitely a 50/50 guy when it comes to run/pass ratio.

Sound off: So what about you? What is your offensive style in Madden NFL 13? Is anyone trying something truly unique?

Typically, my style changes depending on the team I am playing as. Most teams/teams that aren't awful allow the player to be successful passing and running. If that's the case, I'll mix up the rushing attack and air game. If I'm the Browns, Jaguars, etc., I'll try to run the ball a lot. If the team has a bad quarterback, I'll run a good amount and try to target my best receiver. If I'm playing from behind, I pass a lot, depending what quarter it is and what the deficit is. If I have the lead, I'll run the clock.

Vertical offense, using mismatches, hurry up, and motioning a fair amount. Example having Jahvid Best lined up in the slot, or I as I like to do on the outside, while still having a RB in the backfield. I like to move my TE's inside and outside as well, and moving Megatron anywhere on the field causes havoc.

When I do run I like to use outside runs or draw plays, to utilise Best's speed. I audible a fair amount from running to pass plays, especially on strech plays were I have 2-3 TE's stacked on one side, as this allows me to move one of them around a cause more mismatches. Mainly work out of the shotgun.

Throwing it up to Megatron is usually the most effective style of play though..

My offense has been the same since the 90s. I run a lot of short crossing routes out of the Strong and Weak formations, throw a lot of slant patterns out of a three-wide shotgun set, and look to throw into the flat to the backs and H-backs. I run between the tackles mostly, and never run with the QB unless nothing is open AND there is a lot of room.

My goal is to run and pass about the same percentage of the time, and complete close to 70% of my passes. First down after first down, and if I have to kick a FG in the red zone, so be it.

This year.....not working so well. Like in NCAA, the CPU LBs crush my recievers going over the middle, and pick off passes to my backs at an unbelievable rate. They know Im throwing to the flat before I decide that Im going to.

I use the Miami offensive playbook and work everything off the Gun Flex Wing.

Run first and then look to capitalize off PA for deep completions.

When looking to pass I work off a Gun Spread Curl Flats approach. Instead of curls on the outside I use outs.

Check out the video link below for the offense I used for the Virgin Gaming Madden Challenge.
