Madden NFL 13 News Post

Everyone plays Madden differently. Some people enjoy a good ground game, others like to air-it-out. Others (and you know who you are) run around with a QB like RGIII or Michael Vick and you chuck it long at much and as often as possible.

I still have nightmares of Michael Vick led Atlanta Falcons offenses from the 'Golden Age' of Madden on the PS2.

As for me, I enjoy running a very West Coast style of offense -- with a conservative passing game while relying upon the run to grind a game out as much as possible. I value a QB with a good short and medium passing game moreso than a QB who has the arm to really stretch a defense. I'm definitely a 50/50 guy when it comes to run/pass ratio.

Sound off: So what about you? What is your offensive style in Madden NFL 13? Is anyone trying something truly unique?

I play a lot of online as the Bills and Broncos, so I use an almost college-style spread. 3-4 WR on nearly every down and if they stack the line, one of the wideouts gets open. If they spread out to cover the WRs, Spiller or McGahee can take draws. I don't bother with play-action much because I'm almost always in a passing set.

Power running game to set up vertical shots downfield.

I like running the ball but my Bengals suck at RB, so I usually struggle with running. I try to eat up clock and try to set up the play action to hit my man AJ Green and Gresham TE. I payed a buddy last night and I used the 49ers and they were perfect for what i like to do. I used Moss as a possession guy, Gore was banging his Dline, and Play Action to TE Davis was killin him. Davis is special and Crabtree caught some key crossing route first downs for me. Bengals fan using the 49ers I know right....

If I am playing offline my style is whatever "Ask Madden" is programmed for a particular team.

When playing against an online opponent; no matter what I go deep on the first play of the game and from that point on they play the pass and I run the ball quietly down there throat and chew up the clock in the process.

All Day / Everyday / Million and One / Varieties / Implementations of Sid Gilman / Air Coryell / Vertical / Spread / Air Raid...

With some Power Run for balance...

Yes, I'm "Having It All"...

Passing is a lot more difficult in this game. I was able to throw for 400 yards and 4+ TD's with ease in Madden 12 and now I struggle to get to half that. The new passing engine makes it virtually impossible to throw a zinger with some air to go over the DB/LB. Now the trajectory is almost straight and the DB's pick everything off. The short passing game is a lot smoother though, so normally I'm forced to throw underneath.

Having said that I often try a run heavy game. I like to draft a mobile QB like a Brandon Sales or a Rockford Odom and then draft two great speed backs while using Carolina's playbook.

I have lots of trouble throwing deep. It's definitely a lot tougher this year, I'm a ground and pound guy and when I need to pass , I love going over the middle and the curls are good this year. I prefer counter runs out of strong I form. It's effective but not cheese , it seems like in order to complete a good pass there needs to be some element of cheapness.

I use the Raiders and run their Playbook.. In fantasy drafts, I use the same playbook but use RGIII and have Demarco Murray as my cutback back. I use speed just like the real raiders and use their 4-3 bay defense.

I love all the bay offenses though from Oakland to Tampa

I'm a balanced player and will beat you through the ground or air depending on which I can exploit most effectively. I don't favor either element but I do shy away from PA's even when the ground game is working although they do run more effectively this year albeit with the PA escape button.

I'm Bill Parcells ball control oriented. I love to run the rock and pass either when I need to or to keep the defense off balance. I try to set the defense up and pick and choose my moments to strike for the big play. Online I generally play my brother in untangled games because I hate cheesers and anything less than 10 minute quarters tend to turn into arena football shoot outs.

It depends I like to run nothing satisfies me more then to have 300 yards with 6 attempts passing against some douche who thought he'd get Green Bay against my lowly Jags.

I run most of my offensive plays (both run and pass) out of either the I-Formation or the Shotgun. I mostly like to pound them with the Run Game or use a Spread Offense. I try to stay balanced between the run and the pass.

More playbooks are needed next yr, would like to see some of ncaa styles/plays available in M14

I'd say I'm about 60/40 pass to run. My passing game is usually West coast like in style, alot of short, quick passes. I'm not afraid to go deep though, usually once the defense draws in on my runs and short passes I'll take some shots down field, but they've go to be fairly high percentage chances, or i'll check it down. Usually I'm using the pass balanced playbook.

It's typically, for me anyway, tricky to get a good pre-snap read so I gravitate toward a spread offense to force the CPU/opponent to show their cards. I then audible accordingly.

After some review of the legends' books, I really like Gibbs's book for running. The Ace sets are phenomenal, and the routes have room for one speed guy and one possession guy in most cases, so you can have a dynamic passing game. I think this is great for One Cut and Power backs.

Tom Flores's book is a hidden gem in my eyes. You get the Split, Far, Near, Ace, no shotgun stuff that Walsh has, and all the good runs, plus a really great toss out of the Near formation. The passing routes involve both backs and can be adapted to speed or possession concepts. I think this book is best for Receiving Backs and Speed Backs + Runner-Receiver FBs.

If you hate shotgun like me, those are two books with good offensive principles behind them.

Agree totally on your take on Flores / Gibbs...

I did think Walsh is "gunless" too though, correct?

Yeah, Walsh is gunless, which I love; the leg-up that Flores has is the toss play. That one to me is huge, though I do like the Walsh book very much and had a lot of success running the ball with it.

There has been a major flaw in Madden for years...Play as the Giants choose inside edge sting on defense and you will win 90 percent of your games

I'm an air it out kind of player. The only running I really do is QB sneak and read option.

What playbook or playbooks best mimic the Jimmy Johnson era Cowboys? I remember lots of lead iso plays, powers, and off tackles, but not much gun (if any).

Any recommendations? I'm thinking of trying to rebuild the team to that era's specifications.
