MLB 13 The Show News Post

According to Steve Lyons, he will be replacing Dave Campbell in MLB 13 The Show. Yes, the same guy from the All-Star Baseball series.

Don't get rid of anyone. Have two broadcast teams. Matt V and the crew for National broadcasts and a regional crew for the weekday/less popular games.

I really doubt this would ever happen... but it would be cool to have the older commentary for the minor leagues in RTTS and newer commentary for when you make it to the bigs. I think it would give more of a feeling that you really moved up in your career.

Either way, I'm excited for new commentary. It was definitely needed.

I miss the PS1 days of Vin Scully doing the commentary.

Ugh, no thanks...lol. Vin Scully is awesome, but he sounded terrible in those MLB games IMO (got really tired of hearing "can of corn" for nearly every pop up). Now, Vin Scully with today's technology, on the other hand...

Matty V, Karros & Lyons all do broadcast commentary for FOX Sports so I wonder if we will finally see FOX sports integration in the broadcast

I agree not so much with the terrible part, but more with the can of corn part. lol

Lyons was fired by Fox, he does the commentary for the Dodgers now.

Not saying he wasn't fired but he's been on the fox pregame show lately. Technically the pregame show is MLB Network but if fox is airing it they must have some type of deal going on.

I know, it's confusing. But I remember Lyons getting fired for making some kind of comment/joke on the air about someone trying to steal his wallet.

Also, I just want to add that I enjoy Lyons' commentary a lot. He's not only very knowledgeable about Baseball being an former player, but he's funny as hell.

I always had this idea that they should get the commentators to be recorded watching actual live MLB games to tap into the really emotional parts. That way they're not acting, they're just reacting, and you'd get a LOT of varied commentary to boot. Maybe even watching their favorite teams together if you can. Then you go through all the recordings and start grabbing what you like the most. Add that in with some studio recording of player names and the like at different intensity levels that you weren't able to capture during the live game sessions. Combine the two, you got some great commentary. I mean, come on, we're working with Blu-ray. Let's use up that space.

i am all for steve lyons.
love him in real life.
loved him in ASB.

just so long as he doesn't get handed dave campbell's playbook.

"i'm surprised he didn't take a WHACK at that one"!

Since no commentary system would meet our high expectations anyways, why not try something very experimental? Perhaps matching Vin Scully with Erin Andrews... now THAT's very weird...

Who knows it might actually make us realize a *whole new ways* of enjoying baseball commentary...

I don't think our expectations are that high at all. Other games have already done it. NBA 2k's commentary features most of what people have been asking for... chemistry between commentators. More analysis and fewer random one-liners, etc...

Anyway it doesn't matter to me who they have in the booth. The problem has always been the delivery, not the voice

Well said sir...my thoughts EXACTLY!

Thank God commentary is getting some new life...

Just get Matt to stop saying "thus far" every two lines and we'll be cool...

It's not only the delivery but the god awful writing/scripting. Yesterday I was playing 12 The Show and my starting pitcher hit a rough patch in the 4th inning. Dave Campbell proceeds to say "And he seems to be struggling in this half of the 4th inning". I was like "No ****!"

The commentary in this is series is never intelligent, well spoken, interesting, amusing, or enjoyable to listen to. They need to fire who ever is in control of this aspect of the game and rebuild the whole commentary track.

Ah yes, the infamous "And" that has bugged me for years.

I know I've said it before, but it's worth saying with every new commentator we get: Ditch the "And" at the beginning of sentences. That's it, and that's all. Don't even have to re-record anything... just clip it out. It doesn't sound right.

My biggest pet peave is the check swing commentary when Matt V. Says "a check down to first to see if he held up, yes he went around" Just change the yes to no.

Well it's about damn time!!!

Hopefully we get a revamped commentary this year. I'm not one who gets annoyed with someone's voice or repetitive lines. For me, I get annoyed with the lack of "flow," berating of a batter's wild swing, and pitch speculation.

Lack of flow - this is self explanatory as its been mentioned several times in this thread already. SCEA has replaced Rex and Dave with Karros and Lyons respectively. Hopefully this is their next step toward completely revamping the script for this game. I feel like Eric Karros doesn't fit into this game at all. His lines seem to go on and on and then he stays silent for a long period of time. I'm hoping that Steve's script can bring Karros more into the booth and help the lack of flow between the three.

Berating comments - Off-speed pitches are extremely hard to pick up when they're low in the zone and bounce in the dirt. I don't strike out a ton but I do have a few wild swings per game and then I have to listen to Soup talk about how awful my swing was. It makes me want to snap my controller in half. I've switched to music mode because of comments like this. I'm hoping that SCEA doesn't bother putting any lines like this into the game when Lyons is recording his lines. How about talking about how deceptive the pitch was instead?

Pitch speculation - I hate this. I play with guess pitch turned off and I have my own approach while hitting. The last thing I want to hear is Karros or Campbell speculate what pitch might be next. I'd rather not have another pitch put into the back of my head. Worst part is that they're usually wrong. I don't care if the commentary talks about pitching or pitch sequence, but please do not have them speculate what pitch might be next.
